Abstract A crucial first step in preparing to become an Age-Friendly University (AFU) is seeking endorsement from the campus community and leadership. This presentation describes the mapping of the AFU principles to the strategic plan and initiatives of Western Oregon University, leading to endorsement by its faculty senate, and highlights a study of the older community members’ use of the university, laying the groundwork for advancing age-friendliness on campus. Data were collected through surveys (N=46), interviews (N=9), and photovoice method (N=7) with older adults, and data were analyzed using SPSS, team coding, and intensive group discussion to develop categories and themes. Themes emerged related to how the college campus is used by older adults, the need to promote lifelong learning to the community, and the need to address accessibility issues in order to be more age-friendly, providing helpful insight to other institutions of higher education seeking to join the AFU network.

In recent weeks, adverse reactions have been reported after administration of Oxford–AstraZeneca chimpanzee adenovirus vectored vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (AZD1222), in particular thrombus formation, which has led several European Countries to discontinue administration of this vaccine. On March 8, 2021, the European Medicines Agency Safety Committee did not confirm this probable association. We report the case of a patient who developed disseminated intravascular coagulation after the first dose of Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccine, which resolved in a few days with the administration of dexamethasone and enoxaparin. This work demonstrates the safety of the Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccine and that any development of side effects can be easily managed with a prompt diagnosis and in a short time with a few commonly used drugs.

AbstractThe introduction of a specialised passage regime for archipelagic sea-lanes was one of the most innovative features to the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention. Article 53(9) of the Convention requires an archipelagic state to refer any proposals for the designation or substitution of sea-lanes or the prescription of traffic separation schemes to the "competent international organisation" with a view to their adoption. In May 1996 at the 67th session of the Marine Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the Republic of Indonesia submitted a proposal for the adoption of various sea-lanes and air routes through and over its archipelagic waters. This was the first proposal of its kind. This article traces the progress of this proposal through the IMO procedures and draws some conclusions about the wider significance of this new role for the IMO.

The Intergovernmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO) through the Subcommittee on Tonnage Measurement of its Maritime Safety Committee in 1959 undertook to determine if it could develop a universal system for the tonnage measurement of ships. It considered the matter for nine years in nine sessions of the Subcommittee and seven sessions of the Working Group of the Subcommittee. Most of the sessions dealt, almost exclusively with the problem of a universal system. In 1968 after the Subcommittee had completed its work the IMCO Secretariat distributed to governments three basic proposals, including draft Articles, Regulations, and a Tonnage Certificate in each case, which the Subcommittee had prepared for a universal system of tonnage measurement of ships. There was also distributed a modified version of one of the proposals suggested by Denmark. Governments were requested to consider the proposals as possible basic documents for an International Conference on Tonnage Measurement to be convened in London for a four-week period commencing May 27, 1969.
