Abstract The article examines some particular aspects of the analytical process within the intelligence cycle, having as reference the framework of strategic intelligence. Starting from a proposed model of analysis of the competing hypotheses using phases-tailored tools, which will improve the quality of all-source intelligence analysis and its final products, we further assess its applicability in HUMINT (Human Intelligence) analysis. The model of intelligence analysis as a problem-solving method, with a focus on predictive analysis, will serve to understand the expectations from single-source collection disciplines (in our case, HUMINT) data gathering and reporting, connected to the roles of HUMINT analysts in the specialized branches.

The development of communication technology continues to advance rapidly. Social media is able to present individual voices that have never been heard through mainstream media coverage before. In Indonesia, the changes in the world have become increasingly clear when the era of communication has flooded the lives of religious communities. Religious discourse in Indonesia in recent years has been colored by accusations of religious intolerance in the form of hate speech through social media. The prohibition on the construction of houses of worship, prohibition of book discussions, attacks on certain groups, heresy from certain religious groups, threatening expressions of hatred, and so on are a series of acts of religious intolerance so that the potential for social conflict appears clearly. The Police Intelligence and Security as an institution that has the obligation to carry out early detection of threats must play an active role in making prevention and anticipation efforts. This research examines the Strategic Intelligence Analysis of Religious-Based Hate Speech on Social Media by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security at Polda Metro Jaya.

Christopher Kojm inherited the continuing challenge of implementing intelligence reform. This time the tension lay between the two mandates given to the new director of national intelligence: to provide strategic intelligence analysis and to coordinate the activities of the far-flung intelligence community. The first mandate was clearly within the NIC’s purview; the second had been at best a collateral duty. To meet this second mandate, the DNI created national intelligence managers, whose charge seemed to erode the NIC’s mandate, causing several national intelligence officers to resign. More positively, unlike some of his predecessors, Kojm dealt with an Obama administration that welcomed dissenting opinions, as evidenced by the reception to the 2013 NIE on Afghanistan that informed a contentions policy debate over whether to draw down our military commitment or to “surge” to a higher level. Kojm’s tenure also saw production of Global Trends 2030.
