Attention is drawn to Lasnet's notes on the Sakalavas or West Coast Malagasies published in the Annales d'Hygiène et de Médecine Coloniales, which include the description of a curious epidemic nervous affection met with amongst the natives. It begins suddenly, and consists of incessant shaking of the body, accompanied by irregular movements, incoherent speech, and delirium; the patients indulge in wild bacchanalian dances, finally falling to the ground panting and foaming at the mouth. Some clamber up the rocks, while others pass whole days in pools or rivers, declaring that they are forced to remain there by spirits. They present meanwhile a most wild appearance, and, if not dancing, walk straight before them with head erect and eyes constantly rolling. It is very communicable.

In this study, 45 (10 whole specimens and 35 frozen claws) frozen samples of Portunus pelagicus imported into Sicily (Italy) from the west coast of Africa were examined to assess their bacteriological characteristics and suitability for consumption. Bacteriological examination was performed on two subsamples for each whole crab. The first was the body and claw muscle; the second was a pool of viscera and gills. In the case of frozen claws, each muscle claw was a sample. An aerobic plate count at 30°C (mesophilic aerobic plate count [MAPC]) and 18°C (psychrotrophic aerobic plate count [PAPC]) for 3 days, sulfite-reducing anaerobes, total coliforms, Escherichia coli, enterococci, and Aeromonas spp. were enumerated. Detection of halophilic Vibrio spp. was also performed using salt polymixin broth as an enrichment medium and thiosulfate citrate bile salts sucrose agar as a selective medium; a further morphological and biochemical identification of suspected colonies was performed. The bacterial load of muscle and viscera and gills was low. The MAPC ranged from 0.78 to 3.26 log CFU/g, and the PAPC ranged from 0.48 to 2.41 log CFU/g. Vibrio spp., Aeromonas spp., sulfite-reducing anaerobes, and E. coli were never isolated from muscles or viscera and gills. In contrast to the findings of others, this study showed good bacteriological quality of crabs imported into Sicily from the west coast of Africa. This study also demonstrated the positive influence of the characteristics of environment of origin and postharvest handling hygiene; these parameters could be useful in the context of the application of the hazard analysis critical control point system to this production.

Bruce Nauman’s installations have long served a literary and linguistic critique emphasizing the role of the body in relation to space and time. However, focusing on vision, phenomenology and semiotics, scholars of Nauman have paid little attention to the sounding body. The author weaves the political basis of audition into the making of sense while morphing the historical and philosophical roots through a close examination of Bruce Nauman’s Audio Video Piece for London, Ontario, a work executed soon after unrest on the American West Coast and in the streets of Paris. Unhinging the unity of sensus communis, Nauman’s work proposes new political trajectories for dispersed sounding bodies.

ABSTRACT: In case of Sitopbilus oryzae, Periplaneta americana and Gumbusia affinis (girard), 100 % mortality was noted after 24 hours of exposure to the crude extracts and the isolated compounds where as in control group 100% survival was noted. In the initial stage of the experiment on Sitopbilus oryzae, after 30 minutes of exposure, schooling behavior was observed. After 30 minutes the weevils were dispersed there after towards the corners of the petridishes. After 1hour the locomotary movement of the weevils was restricted and these weevils could not be moved afterwards. The Periplaneta americana showed cleaning behavior at the initial stages of poisoning by rubbing their bodies with their legs or sides of the cages. At the later stages of poisoning Periplaneta americana shows incoordination and convulsion leading to paralysis. Gumbusia affinis showed hypersensitivity, an increased respiratory rate by indicating rapid operculum movement. The fishes were become restless and the movement of the body and operculum of fishes becomes lower down and the fishes were settled down at the bottom of the aquarium. At the final stages of intoxication after 24 hours the fishes were dead and found floating on the surface of the aquarium. The area of the brain of dead fishes was found red in color. From the above symptoms it was evident that the toxin found in the crud extract and the isolated compounds of Tetraodon fluviatilis may contains strong toxin.

Two species of the nematode family Diplopeltidae are described from Skagerrak. The new genus Belgopeltula gen. nov. is proposed for Diplopeltula belgica Vincx & Gourbault, 1992 and is characterised by: amphidial fovea circular in female and double-loop-shaped in male; excretory pore located at the level of cephalic setae bases; oral opening on the dorsal side of the body; pharynx subdivided into strongly muscularised fusiform corpus and weakly muscularised narrow and long postcorpus; female didelphic with antidromously reflexed ovaries; supplements absent. Mudwigglus micramphidium sp. nov. is characterised by: a body of 0.6 mm long; cephalic sensilla 1.5 µm long; amphidial fovea loop-shaped, 8 µm long and 3.5 µm wide; gymnostom without cuticularised ring; tail elongate conoid, with subcylindrical distal part; terminal setae absent; spicules 15 µm long; gubernaculum present; two midventral precloacal setae. It is distinguished from M. macramphidium Leduc, 2013 in having shorter amphidial fovea, shorter spicules and presence of two precloacal setae. Redescription of Diplopeltis cylindricauda Allgén, 1932 is provided based on type material. Diplopeltula minuta Vitiello, 1972 is transferred to the genus Mudwigglus Leduc, 2013. Diplopeltis cylindricauda Allgén, 1932, Diplopeltula laminata Vitiello, 1972 and Diplopeltula cassidaignensis Vitiello, 1972 are transferred to the genus Pseudaraeolaimus Chitwood, 1951.

We have heard today about the palaeomagnetic evidence which requires the magnetic pole to wander through the body of the Earth and at the same time the continents to wander over the surface of the Earth, since Mesozoic times. We have heard the geological evidence reiterated as evidence of continental drift. Others in the past have equally ably demonstrated that this does not need to be considered evidence of continental drift. We have seen the continents authoritatively reconstructed by a computer. This seems most convincing except of course it seems necessary to discard Central America, Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea and the West Indies, along with their pre-Mesozoic rocks! On the other hand we have seen evidence that the ocean crust too breaks into blocks which shift relative to each other by distances up to 1400 km. A series of transcurrent faults occur along the west coast of the United States. Unmentioned is the similar fault along the east coast which extends across 600 km of the continent and out into the sea, continuing, some think, across the Atlantic to the mid-ocean ridge. On land this fault has been dated as pre-Mesozoic. It is at the same latitude as the Mendocino Escarpment off the west coast but shows right lateral movement while the latter shows predominantly left lateral movement.

As the ever-increasing water demand, especially consumption, has prompted the emergence of a variety of drinking water business, both of Bottled Drinking Water (bottled water) as well as drinking water refill. Each of drinking water produced, must meet the quality requirements set by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Among these are the quality requirements of drinking water must be free of bacteria or germs. E-coli bacteria in the body can cause intestinal fever or dysentery. If late untreated can result in death due to loss of body fluids. The main purpose of this study was to determine that the Bottled Water production South West coast of Aceh free from the content of the e-coli bacteria according to the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 492 / Menkes / PER / IV / 2010. It can be concluded Bottled Drinking Water (bottled water) is safe or not for public consumption. To carry out this study, researchers using descriptive method is based on laboratory test results. The technique of sampling was done by purposive sampling, where each brand is taken three (3) samples of drinking water in the glass packaging 220-230 ml of markets / locations. Observation, researchers found seven brands of Bottled Drinking Water (bottled water). Tests conducted repetition 2 times. So the total number is 42 samples tested. The results showed that of the 42 samples test negative results the content of the e-coli bacteria. From the results obtained it can be concluded that the seven brands of Bottled Drinking Water (bottled water) production area of the West Coast of South Aceh is safe for public consumption because it is free of the content of the e-coli bacteria.Kewords : bakteri e-coli, bottled water, water production, healthy
