The prevalence of Klinefelter's Syndrome in new-born males in large surveys throughout the world has shown a scatter of 1.4 to 1.9 per thousand. Forssman (1970) accepted by pooling results a figure of 0.17 per cent as the average proportion of males born with at least one too many X chromosomes in some or all cell lines. Studies of mental hospital populations have consistently shown a higher prevalence of extra X chromosomes in males, averaging 0.54 per cent. The two largest studies, in Great Britain (Maclean et al, 1968) and in Sweden (Hambert, 1966) made no differentiation in the psychiatric diagnosis of the patients, although Hambert stated that the high prevalence did not stem from the mentally retarded population.

Introduction: Klinefelter’s syndrome (KS) is one of the most common chromosomal disorders associated with testicular dysfunction and male infertility with an incidence of 1:500 to 1:1000 in new born male infants and prevalence of 0.2%.1-3 KS is the set of symptoms that result from the presence of two or more X chromosomes.3-4 KS is often associated with abdominal obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus and auto-immune diseases.1-3 Thrombotic risk in KS is comparable to that of inherited thrombophilias and estimated prevalence of thrombotic events like VTE and PE is similar in both.5-9  Case Report: We report case of a 40 year old male who presented to us with dysglycemia for control of blood glucose. He had history of recurrent ischemic strokes in past, primary infertility and hypertension. We diagnosed him with Klinefelter’s syndrome and attributed his presentation to metabolic syndrome and the hypercoagulable state associated with this syndrome. We managed this patient with aspirin, statins, insulin and testosterone. JMS 2017;20(2):101-103

Males with chromatin positive Klinefelter's syndrome are observed to have one or more extra X chromosomes within their cells. Diagnosis is by buccal mucosa smear and chromosome analysis. Clinically they have delayed puberty, abnormal physique, small testicles and little facial hair. This paper presents some observed differences between Klinefelter patients who were being treated in subnormality units and other patients not having the condition but with similar I.Q.s.
