AimsHospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA) system successfully rolled out in July, 2020 at the Orchard clinic as the first site in NHS Lothian. The initial aim was to collect some “pre-HEPMA” and “post-HEPMA” data to look at “staff's attitudes to a new IT system, and does that change with successful implementation of it?” in the form of a survey. In the light of the findings of the pre-HEPMA staff survey, it became the QI project (as above). This aimed to look at both qualitative data; in the form of a staff attitudes survey towards a new IT system and quantitative data; to measure benefits of its implementation and to address issues raised by staff in the survey in the form of an audit in both pre and post HEPMA cycles.MethodTwo cycles were completed as follows:1. Pre-HEPMA cycle in March, 2020:Survey: Questionnaires asking question re- own IT skills, preparation and expectations of outcome of its implementation.Audit: Measured time taken to write and re-write paper prescriptions. Proforma filled by staff to measure time taken to log on and other IT related issues.2. Post-HEPMA cycle in October, 2020:Survey: Replicated above questions re-own IT skills, support during and after launch, disaster recovery and views about actual outcome of its implementation.Audit: Replicated to measure time taken to complete electronic prescriptions.Result24 staff questionnaires returned in both cycles. Staff felt more confident in their own IT skills, training and hence competence to use HEPMA; more supported, more confident about contingency plans and HEPMA to be more beneficial than initially anticipated. Overall, actual perceived success of (91%) compared to anticipated success (71%).The majority issues raised via the first survey were felt to be addressed. Time to log was on averageThe audit showed a clear benefit in terms of clinical time saving, e.g. daily clinical time spent writing prescription reduced from an average 45 to 6 minutes with HEPMA.The quality of documentation on the prescriptions remained unchanged.ConclusionStaff's attitude towards IT does change after successful implementation of a new IT system. But IT issues make the whole process laborious. There was evident benefits realization with an electronic prescribing system compared to paper prescriptions.I was awarded “Employee of the month” for this project which I also presented at the NHS Lothian grand round (>150 attendees) for dissemination and future replication.

Our purpose was to establish a quick and accurate real-time PCR (rtPCR) method to detect Campylobacter jejuni directly from human diarrheal stool as an alternative to traditional culture methods. To determine the consistency of rtPCR and culture method, 256 clinical diarrheal stool samples and 50 normal stool samples from healthy individuals were examined, and the whole process was double-blinded. Our data showed that the sensitivity of rtPCR in pure cultures and stool was 102CFU·mL–1and 103CFU·g–1, respectively. Of the 256 diarrheal samples, 10 specimens were successfully detected by both methods, whereas two specimens were PCR positive but culture negative. No positive results were found by these two methods in 50 normal specimens. Our data suggested that rtPCR was convenient in operation and time-saving (turnaround time 3.5–4 h), so it could be used for clinical diagnostic and epidemiological purposes.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is an audit of information technology (IT) skills set of librarians in some Nigerian university libraries with the aim of examining their relevance and adequacy to the digital environment. Nigerian universities as knowledge creators and their libraries as gatekeepers of knowledge are rapidly witnessing the introduction of various IT. One of the challenges facing IT/digital library projects in Nigeria has been the readiness of the university libraries in terms of knowledge and skills to implement the digital and electronic library services. Design/methodology/approach – This paper used the survey approach. The sampling technique for the selection of the universities was stratified and for the librarians (respondents), census. The sampling frame was the approved list of universities released by the National Universities Commission as of the time of this study. The data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Findings – The findings of this paper revealed that many of the respondents do have knowledge and skills of email use and word processing tasks but lack knowledge of search engines and directories other than Google and Yahoo, respectively. Many of them do not know how to evaluate and catalogue e-resources; have no knowledge of subject gateways, specialised databases and some open-access library databases; have no knowledge of database management; are not skilled in Web design; and are equally not familiar with Web design applications. Originality/value – The study recommends management support for IT skills training and/or continuous professional development to improve the librarians. Librarians are also challenged and encouraged to explore the range of training resources available over the Internet for self-development.

Background: Musculoskeletal pain (MSKP) is an extremely common pain disorder in almost all populations. Self-management (SM) support is a programme to prepare people to self-manage their health condition effectively, while maintaining quality of life. SM is a cost-effective and context-specific strategy to address the global public health burden. Objectives: Self-management needs a change in behaviour from seeking unnecessary medical care to safely self-managing symptoms. As changing individuals’ behaviour is challenging, the objective of my literature review was to identify the characteristics, in both therapist and patient, to successfully engage in SM.Method: A narrative literature review, that could inform evidence-based support programmes for SM of MSKP.Results: Studies on successful implementation of SM of MSKP do not report strong outcomes. However, in more recent years a few positive outcomes were reported, possibly as a result of research evidence for the application of psychosocial skills and contemporary pain neuroscience in the management of persistent MSKP.Conclusion: Psychologically-informed physiotherapy, addressing psychosocial barriers to the maintenance of SM programmes, could facilitate more successful outcomes.Clinical implications: Before engaging in a SM support programme, obstacles to behaviour change must be identified and addressed in a SM support programme, to facilitate individuals towards taking safe responsibility for their healthcare. Therapists working with patients with persistent MSKP, should upskill themselves to be in line with the latest pain and psychosocial research literature. Moreover, communication skills training seems to be a priority for effective SM support programmes.

Leadership has significant impact on strategic management process. Especially it helps to determine the vision and mission of the organization. Further, it facilitates the organization to execute effective strategies to achieve that vision. The purpose of this paper is to find out the role of leadership in strategy formulation and implementation by reviewing the existing literature. The study reveals that leadership serves as a link between the soul and the body of an organization. For the successful implementation of strategies, the challenge of leadership is to be strong but not rude, be kind but not weak, be humble but not timid, be proud but not arrogant, have humor but without folly. Leadership has to have the evaluation process to ensure the effectiveness of the whole process, and this aspect will facilitate to identify the drawbacks and to make fresh the strategies in line with the change as well. Moreover, this evaluation process is able to help and sustain the constant growth of the institution. Thus, it can be said that leadership is known as the nucleus of the organization, and it should have the pivotal role like the role of blood and brain; as a result, the outcomes of the success can be guaranteed and be shared.

Plant turnaround shutdown is a fundamental asset management in capital intensive process-based industries. Offshore platform is like a ‘town’ in the middle of the sea with a facility for well drilling to explore, process for petroleum and also natural gas, to extract and store. The platform also has facilities for workforce as well. Shutting down an offshore platform for the schedule maintenance is a risky activity that could cost millions of dollar if not properly managed. The success of Offshore platform schedule shutdown is heavily depending on the close coordination among the stakeholder of the project including meeting the logistics requirement. In offshore schedule shutdown, logistics play a critical role in the whole process of the shutdown due to restricted space available for working area, accommodation, and storage. The design for offshore platform include all the requirements including the living space for workers, space for office and many more. The successful implementation of turnaround among others depends on the appropriate provision of institution and organization for the governance of the event. Moreover, it is rare to find literature on organizational characteristics of plant turnaround shutdown. The purpose of this study is to explore the challenges of logistics setup during a schedule shutdown in offshore platform which turn to be a major problem for oil and gas company. In this research propose a framework for examining the organizational challenges during the plant turnaround shutdown and researcher has purpose the efficient way that could lead to the successful initiative for the company. For data collection, researcher is using group focus interview the targeting team and also from the books, journal or website.

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it aims to identify the challenges and barriers experienced in implementing problem-based Learning (PBL) in a language program at Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman. Second, it proposes a working model for integrating PBL into an existing program. The research was conducted using a case study approach underpinned by design-based research principles. The proposed model came as a result of tracing the development of the program over a period of seven years with a total of 14 instructors and 2800 students. The model consists of a number of elements which include the use of hybridizing courses, the careful scaffolding of teachers and students, and the development of a PBL culture of collaboration and interdependence. Each of these elements is described from a process perspective, detailing how we attempted to implement them and how they reacted to challenges along the way. Even though the model was designed for a specific language learning and teaching context, it can be adapted to suit local needs. The model is unique in that it creatively integrates the relevant PBL and linguistic aspects that are often missing in PBL designs but are essential for a successful implementation. The skills training and the scaffolding that the model proposes can offer one means of working around rigid institutional and curricula requirements that often face PBL adoption. It is hoped that the model may support future implementations of successful PBL.
