Interpretation of three‐component borehole magnetometer data

We have made a theoretical study of the problem of locating and defining a magnetized prism in the vicinity of a drillhole. The study shows that a three‐component borehole magnetometer can be very useful in exploration for deep magnetic targets, which are difficult to intersect by drilling. There are nine parameters to be estimated from the data: the x, y, and z positions of the center of the prism; length, width and depth extent; and the three parameters defining the magnetization vector. The parameters are estimated by minimizing the sum of squared differences between the predicted and observed data. Since the problem is nonlinear, it must be solved iteratively. At each iteration a singular value analysis of the sensitivity matrix is performed, and a particular solution is chosen from a set of minimal length solutions; each solution corresponds to a different rank of the sensitivity matrix. The main difficulty is an ambiguity involving the position parameters and the parameters defining the magnetization vector. In order to minimize this obstacle, a parameter scaling matrix is introduced. The effects of noise, wrong model, probe orientation errors, borehole length, and data density are analyzed. We have found that the position and depth extent of the body can be estimated with reasonable accuracy.

It has been demonstrated that cross sections of bundles of hair can be effectively studied using image analysis. These studies can help to elucidate morphological differences of hair from one region of the body to another. The purpose of the present investigation was to use image analysis to determine whether morphological differences could be demonstrated between male and female human Caucasian terminal scalp hair.Hair samples were taken from the back of the head from 18 caucasoid males and 13 caucasoid females (Figs. 1-2). Bundles of 50 hairs were processed for cross-sectional examination and then analyzed using Prism Image Analysis software on a Macintosh llci computer. Twenty morphological parameters of size and shape were evaluated for each hair cross-section. The size parameters evaluated were area, convex area, perimeter, convex perimeter, length, breadth, fiber length, width, equivalent diameter, and inscribed radius. The shape parameters considered were formfactor, roundness, convexity, solidity, compactness, aspect ratio, elongation, curl, and fractal dimension.

To study the upper body characteristics of young men, the body circumference, length, width, thickness, and angle of young men aged 18–25 and 26–35 years were collected to comprehensively characterize the concave and convex features of the front, back, and side of the human body. The Cuckoo Search-Density Peak intelligent algorithm was used to extract the feature factors of the upper body of men, and to cluster them. To verify the effectiveness of the intelligent algorithm, the clustering results of Cuckoo Search-Density Peak, Density Peak, Particle Swarm Optimization-Density Peak algorithm, Ant Colony Optimization-Density Peak algorithm, Genetic Algorithm-Density Peak algorithm, and Artificial Bee Colony-Density Peak algorithm were evaluated by Silouette and F-measures, respectively. The results show that the Cuckoo Search-Density Peak algorithm has the best clustering results and is superior to other algorithms. There are some differences in somatotype characteristics and somatotype indexes between young men aged 18–25 and 26–35 years.

Astragalus bone is one of the most important fossil records as it can reconstruct the prehistoric life. Respectively, this study aims to model the body mass, habitat preference, and population density of prehistoric bovid Duboisia santeng (Dubois 1891) in eastern Java island in the early Pleistocene. The astragali from 9 specimens were used to estimate the body mass and population density. Likewise regression models are used to analyze the relationship between astragalus lateral length, width, and body mass compared to the astragalus of extant Bovid species. The result revealed the body mass average was 60.3 kg (95%CI: 58.9-61.7) and this indicates the D. santeng belongs to large herbivores. While the population density was estimated at about 5.39 individuals per km2 (95% CI: 3.18-7.6).

Abstract Measuring the linear characteristics of chironomid larvae is easier and faster than measuring their mass. The relationships between them are approximated by parabolic equations. Generalized equations are provided for all chironomid larvae. However, these relations vary in different water bodies. Measurements of 1424 chironomid larvae representing several species were taken in Crimean waters with salinity ranging from 0 to 280 PSU. There was a high correlation between three traits. In the case of Baeotendipes noctivagus and Cricotopus gr. sylvestris, dimorphism was found in the “head capsule length– width” relationship. Salinity affects the head capsule. The exponent “b” varied from 1.43 to 3.06 in the “body length-mass” equation for B. noctivagus, and from 1.943 to 2.592 for C. gr. sylvestris. It is inappropriate to use only one coefficient “b” for all chironomid larvae. In B. noctivagus and Paratanytarsus confuses, the mass of one-size larvae decreased with increasing salinity. Salinity is not the only factor affecting the size and mass of chironomid larvae.

We have developed a fast 3D regularized magnetic inversion algorithm for depth-to-basement estimation based on an efficient way to compute the total-field anomaly produced by an arbitrary interface separating nonmagnetic sediments from a magnetic basement. We approximate the basement layer by a grid of 3D vertical prisms juxtaposed in the horizontal directions, in which the prisms’ tops represent the depths to the magnetic basement. To compute the total-field anomaly produced by the basement relief, the 3D integral of the total-field anomaly of a prism is simplified by a 1D integral along the prism thickness, which in turn is multiplied by the horizontal area of the prism. The 1D integral is calculated numerically using the Gauss-Legendre quadrature produced by dipoles located along the vertical axis passing through the prism center. This new magnetic forward modeling overcomes one of the main drawbacks of the nonlinear inverse problem for estimating the basement depths from magnetic data: the intense computational cost to calculate the total-field anomaly of prisms. The new sensitivity matrix is simpler and computationally faster than the one using classic magnetic forward modeling based on the 3D integrals of a set of prisms that parameterize the earth’s subsurface. To speed up the inversion at each iteration, we used the Gauss-Newton approximation for the Hessian matrix keeping the main diagonal only and adding the first-order Tikhonov regularization function. The large sparseness of the Hessian matrix allows us to construct and solve a linear system iteratively that is faster and demands less memory than the classic nonlinear inversion with prism-based modeling using 3D integrals. We successfully inverted the total-field anomaly of a simulated smoothing basement relief with a constant magnetization vector. Tests on field data from a portion of the Pará-Maranhão Basin, Brazil, retrieved a first depth-to-basement estimate that was geologically plausible.

The present study was carried out on tongue measurements in Surti goat fetus to establish the relationship among various biometric measurements of the tongue and body in relation to prediction of fetal age. Total 39 apparently normal Surti goat fetuses were procured and categorized into three groups based on Crown-rump length. The body measurements like Crown-rump length, Curved Crown-rump length, height at withers and height at pin of fetuses were taken. The biometrical measurements of the tongue were recorded identically weight, length, width, thickness and circumference. Tongue biometry and body measurement’s association determined by simple linear correlation. Attempts were made for development of prediction equation for prediction of fetal age with tongue and body measurements. All the biometric measurements of tongue increase significantly (p£0.05) with advancement of age. Association among biometric measurements of the tongue and body expressed high degree of positive correlation. Predictability of regression equations is very high for prediction of fetal age. All biometric and body measurement’s correlations are highly significant (p£0.01).

In this paper is presented a new method for determining the following parameters of a uniformly magnetized body of rectangular prismatic shape: (i) horizontal dimensions, (ii) depths to the top and bottom of the body, and (iii) intensity and direction of magnetization. Accuracy in the computation of these parameters is highly dependent on the correct location of the center and on the determination of the major and minor axes of the body. An iterative method of calculations is used. This method is considerably aided not only by the second vertical derivative map of the observed total field but also by the total field reduced to the pole and its second vertical derivative map. The horizontal dimensions are determined by noting the location of the maximum of the odd component of the second vertical derivative about the center of the body. These dimensions are estimated with high accuracy when they are greater than the depth to the top of the body. The remaining unknown parameters of the body are calculated with the help of the first horizontal and vertical derivatives and the total field at the origin in the plane of observation which is directly above the center of the body. The present method also requires the total‐field value at the point one‐half unit of length above the origin. The factors affecting the accuracy in the calculation of the parameters are discussed in detail. With the help of high‐speed digital computers, this method can be used with great advantage for computation of the above parameters of magnetized bodies giving rise to a number of anomalies over a particular area.

The study of the constitutional features of organs in the healthy population makes it possible to find out the peculiarities of changes in their sizes in different pathologies. The purpose of the work is to construct and analyze the regression models of individual sonographic sizes of the kidneys in practically healthy women of the ectomorphic somatotype, depending on the features of anthropo-somatotypological parameters of the body. From the database of research center of the National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya (within the framework of the agreement on scientific cooperation) were taken the primary sonographic parameters (length, width, front and rear size, area of the longitudinal and cross section of the kidneys and their sinuses, as well as the volume of the right and left kidneys) and anthropometric indices (according to V. V. Bunak in the modification of P. P. Shapаrenko) of practically healthy women-ectomorphs of the first mature age, who in the third generation live in the Podillia region of Ukraine. Regression models of individual sonographic sizes of the kidneys, depending on the features of anthropo-somatotypological parameters of the body, are constructed using the license package “Statistica 6.1”. In practically healthy women of the ectomorphic somatotype all 16 possible reliable regression models of sonographic parameters of the right and left kidneys, based on the anthropometric and somatotypological parameters with determination coefficient R2 from 0.607 to 0.973, were constructed. Constructed regression models of sonographic parameters of both kidneys in practically healthy women of the ectomorphic somatotype most often include body diameters (24.2% of the total number of indicators included in the models), circumferential body sizes (20.9%), cephalometric indices (19.8 %) and the thickness of skin and fat folds (14.3%). The regression models of sonographic parameters of the right kidney in women of the ectomorphic somatotype most often include diameters and circumferential body sizes (by 27.3% of the total number of indicators included to the models of right kidney) and cephalometric indices (18.2%). The regression models of the sonographic parameters of the left kidney in women of the ectomorphic somatotype most often include body diameters and cephalometric indices (by 21.3% of the total number of indices included to the models of the left kidney) and the circumferential body size and thickness of skin and fat folds (by 14.9%).

This study random a cohort studies is examined the effects of beta-alanine supplementation on aerobic and anaerobic power output in specific cyclists. Therefore, we have been databases PubMed, Scopus and Medline initial search 10 August 2020 were created prospective effect the quality of bias work concluded effect size (ES) 95% confidence interval (CI) were used in participant. Participations (N=66) have age range 25 to 38 of the using beta-alanine in training periods to endurance muscle performance, aerobic power, anaerobic power, and sprint time trials. As a result of beta-alanine improved an-aerobic and aerobic power output on 4-week time-dependent trial performance condition. Signifi-cant values are obtained level factor alpha <0.05 and p-value analysis pre-post interactive stand-ardization.

The aim of this tudy was to evaluate corporal and testicular development in wild boars (Sus scrofa scrofa) from birth to 12 months of age, evaluating body weight, biometric testicular parameters, and gonadosomatic index. Thirty-nine male wild boars from a commercial farm licensed by IBAMA were used in the study. The animals were weighed and assigned to 13 experimental groups. The testes were recovered through unilateral orchiectomy, weighed on an analytical balance and measured for length, width and thickness. Body weight and testicular measures increased with the age, up to 12 months, and were more accelerated in the first and ninth months. Initially the testicular growth pattern, between zero and nine months, followed the body growth, and the gonadosomatic index varied from 0.07 to 0.09%. Between 9 and 11 months, the testicular growth was superior to the body growth, and the gonadosomatic index varied from 0.09 to 0.16%. Finally, after 11 months of age, testicular and body growth had a similar behavior. In conclusion, body weight, testicular biometry, and gonadosomatic index development accelerated in the ninth month.
