A novel naphthyl-based self-promoted phthalonitrile monomer, 4-(8-amino-2-naphthyloxy)phthalonitrile (8-ANP), was successfully synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reaction through a one-pot reaction, and it exhibited desirable processing feature with a wide process window (temperature between the melting point and the cure temperature) and low complex viscosity. The activation energy ( Ea) value of the self-promoted curing reaction was ascertained using integral isoconversional Starink method. Even without post cure at high temperature for a long time, the properties of 8-ANP polymers were still outstanding, which exhibited high glass transition temperatures, high storage modulus, low average coefficient of thermal expansion, and excellent thermal and thermo-oxidative stabilities.

The 10 vol% SiCp/Mg composites were prepared by external addition and stirring-casting method, and the hybrid reinforced (10 vol% SiCp+10 vol% Mg2Si)/Mg composites were prepared by combining in-situ method. The effects of melt ultrasonic treatment (UT) and forming processes on the thermophysical properties of the two composites were studied. The results show that UT can effectively disperse SiC particles in molten magnesium and reduce the casting porosity, while squeeze casting can significantly reduce the porosity of the composites, which can also significantly improve the thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity (λ) of 10 vol.% SiCp/Mg composites squeeze casted after UT is 135.3 W/(mK) and the average coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is 19.95×10-6 K-1 at 293-373 K. Compared with gravity casting, the λ is increased by 17% and the CTE is reduced by 0.8%. The λ of (SiCp+Mg2Si)/Mg composite squeeze casted after UT is 132.4 W/(mK), and the CTE is 18.95×10-6 K-1, which is 27% lower than the CTE of pure magnesium.

<p><strong>English</strong><br />Involvement of farmers as actors to support extension activities have been underway for a long time with various approaches. In Indonesia, it started from the involvement of Kontak Tani (Advanced Farmers) in Supra Insus era, then farmer to farmer extension at P4S, as well as Penyuluh Swakarsa (Independent Extension Workers)” (in 2004), and the latest is Penyuluh Swadaya (Self-Help Agricultural Extension Workers) since 2008. The existence of self-help farmer extension workers are recognized since the enactment of Law No. 16/2006 on Extension System of Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries. However, even though it runs nearly 10 years, the development of the role of self-help farmer extension workers is not optimal. This paper is a review of various posts including the recent research on self-help farmer extension workers and it aims to study the potential and problems of self-help farmer extension workers. It shows that the self-help farmer extension workers have a self-help capabilities and distinctive social position and they have to get right role. Appropriate support should be given to self-help farmer extension workers as the agricultural extension worker in the future and it must be distinguished between the government and private extension workers. </p><p> </p><p><strong>Indonesian</strong><br />Pelibatan petani sebagai pendukung dan pelaku langsung dalam kegiatan penyuluhan telah berlangsung cukup lama dengan berbagai pendekatan. Di Indonesia, hal ini dimulai dari pelibatan kontak tani pada era Bimas sampai Supra Insus, lalu pendekatan “penyuluhan dari petani ke petani” (farmer to farmer extension) di P4S, serta pengangkatan penyuluh swakarsa (tahun 2004), dan terakhir penyuluh swadaya (sejak tahun 2008). Keberadaan penyuluh swadaya diakui secara resmi semenjak diundangkannya UU No. 16 tahun 2006 tentang Sistem Penyuluhan Pertanian, Kehutanan dan Perikanan. Namun, meskipun sudah berjalan hampir 10 tahun, perkembangan peran penyuluh swadaya belum optimal. Tulisan ini merupakan review dari berbagai tulisan termasuk penelitian tentang penyuluh swadaya terakhir, untuk mempelajari potensi dan permasalahan penyuluh pertanian swadaya saat ini. Ditemukan bahwa penyuluh swadaya memiliki kapabilitas dan posisi sosial yang khas, sehingga batasan perannya mestilah diberikan secara tepat. Dukungan yang tepat harus diberikan kepada penyuluh swadaya sebagai sosok penyuluh pertanian yang strategis di masa mendatang, yang mesti dibedakan dengan penyuluh pemerintah dan penyuluh swasta.</p>

The territory of Lithuania is characterized by a prevailing moisture excess, therefore in order to timely remove excess water from arable lands, the drainage systems have long been installed. In order to drain excess water people used to dig trenches, to regulate (deepen or straighten) natural streams. The length of regulated streams has reached 46,000 km and they are deteriorated ecosystems. Investigations showed that the self-purification of streams from nitrates and phosphates is more effective in natural stretches than in stretches regulated for drainage purposes. Decrease in the average concentration of nitrates in natural and regulated stretches are 8.8 ± 5.0 and 3.0 ± 2.9 mg NO 3 − L−1, respectively. The average coefficient of nitrate self-purification, at a confidence level of 95% in natural stream stretches is 0.50 ± 0.22, and in regulated is −0.15 ± 0.21 km−1, and this difference is essential. The change in the average concentration of phosphates in natural and regulated stretches is almost the same, 0.2 ± 0.1 and 0.2 ± 0.2 mg PO 4 3 − L−1, respectively. The average coefficient of phosphate self-purification, at a confidence level of 95%, in natural stream stretches is 0.28 ± 0.12, in regulated −0.14 ± 0.12 km−1, and this difference is not essential. In terms of the need for the renovation of drainage systems it is suggested that soft naturalization measures are first applied in the streams of Western (Samogitian) Highlands, Coastal Lowlands, and South-Eastern Highlands to improve their self-purification processes.

This study addresses the development of lead-free nanocomposite solders. Lead-free composite solders were successfully synthesized, with varying amount of nanosized Y2O3 particulates incorporated into 95.8 Sn - 3.5 Ag - 0.7 Cu solder. These composite materials were fabricated using the powder metallurgy technique involving blending, compaction, sintering and extrusion. The extruded materials were then characterized in terms of their physical properties, microstructural development, thermal and mechanical properties. Results revealed that with the incorporation of increasing amount of reinforcements, the density values of the composite solders decreased while their corresponding porosity levels increased. Thermomechanical analysis of the solder nanocomposites showed that the use of reinforcements lowered the average coefficient of thermal expansion of the solder materials. Moreover, the results of mechanical property characterizations revealed that the addition of reinforcements aids in improving the overall strength of the nanocomposite solder. Particular emphasis is placed in this study to correlate the effect of increasing presence of Y2O3 particulates with the properties of the resultant nanocomposite materials. These advanced interconnect materials will benefit industries like the microelectronics flip chip assembly and packaging, MEMS systems and NEMS systems.

Porphyrins and metalloporphyrins are one of the most widely studied platforms for the construction of supramolecular structures. These compounds have an extended aromatic system that allows [Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text] stacking interactions which, together with hydrogen bonds, electrostatic forces and the formation of inter-metallic complexes arising from peripheral groups, offer a versatile platform to control the self-assembly mechanism. In this work, we present the study of nanostructures formed by self-assembly of the water-soluble porphyrins meso-tetra([Formula: see text]-methyl-4-pyridyl)porphyrin (TMPyP) and meso-tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS) in the presence of hard nanotemplates. Different nanoparticles (silica, gold, and polystyrene), concentrations and synthetic procedures were explored. The obtained materials were characterized by SEM and AFM microscopies, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering measurements. A clear modification of the SiO2 NP surface roughness using one-pot synthesis was observed. The results were variable depending on the porphyrin–surface interactions and concentrations used. At lower porphyrin concentrations, a shift of the Soret band was observed, while at higher concentrations, free NS were formed. This reflects a competition between surface and solution directed self-assembly.

The self-assembled folate-biotin-pullulan (FBP) nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by facile one-pot synthesis and their physicochemical properties were characterized. The self-assembled FBP NPs were used as an anticancer drug nanocarrier entrapping doxorubicin (DOX) for targeting folate-receptors-overexpressing cancer cells. The identification of prepared NPs to folate-receptor-expressing cancer cells (KB cells) was affirmed by cell viability measurement, folate competition test, and flow cytometric analysis. Compared with the naked DOX and DOX/BP NPs, the DOX/FBP NPs had lower IC50value compared to KB cells as a result of the folate-receptor-mediated endocytosis process. The cytotoxicity of DOX/FBP NPs to KB cells could be inhibited competitively by free folate. The cellular intake pattern of naked DOX and drug-loaded NPs was identified by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) observation and the higher cellular uptake of drug for DOX/FBP NPs over naked DOX was observed. The prepared FBP NPs had the potential to be used as a powerful carrier to target anticancer drugs to folate-receptor-expressing tumor cells and reduce cytotoxicity to normal tissues.

The term hysteria has undergone several substantial changes throughout its history. A charged concept, deemed for a long time as pejorative and offensive to womanhood, it has lately been re-appropriated for literature under the concept of the “hysterical narrative.” This new trend purports to redeem hysteria and, together with it, redeem the feminine and show all its complexity. Helen Oyeyemi’s 2007 novel, The Opposite House, conflates the private and the public in two female characters, one human, the other divine. Through this double perspective the work self-reflexively re-evaluates hysteria both in the self and in the community.

A novel vinylpyridine-based phthalonitrile monomer, 2,6-bis[3-(3,4-dicyanophenoxy)styryl]pyridine (BDSP), was resoundingly produced by a nucleophilic substitution reaction of 2,6-bis(3-hydroxystyryl)pyridine with 4-nitrophthalonitrile in the presence of potassium carbonate. The chemical structure of the synthesized BDSP was confirmed by proton (1H) and carbon (12C) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) as well as Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. The curing behavior of BDSP was investigated by FTIR and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses. The resin showed a low complex viscosity in the wide processing window between the monomer melting temperature and the curing temperature of the polymer, as discovered by rheological analysis. In addition, the properties of the polymer were studied by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Based on the test results, the BDSP polymer demonstrated superior processing performance, excellent thermal stability, outstanding mechanical properties, and low water uptake, and these advanced performance characteristics are critical to many fields.
