According to a study published by Zelnik and Kantner in 1980,1 approximately 70% of unmarried young women reported having had coitus by 19 years of age. In a recent study by Clark and colleagues,2 approximately 87% of black male adolescents attending an inner-city school in Baltimore reported having had coitus. An estimated 1 million adolescent pregnancies result from this coital activity; approximately two thirds eventuate in births and one third in abortion.3 Most pregnant adolescents are unmarried; of those who give birth, most keep their children. Even though the demographic data have not changed over time, our understanding of the risks of adolescent childbearing has improved.

ABSTRACT Objective: to investigate the influence of the gym in the sexual behavior of adolescents. Method: descriptive research with qualitative approach, whose sample was composed of ten male adolescents. Data collection happened in December 2009, January and February 2010, in a total of 13 visits. As instrument of data collection were used an open and semi-structured questionnaire, as well as observation and field diary. The ethical and legal aspects for research were obeyed, the project was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee (COMEPE) of the Federal University of Ceará to be assessed, later it was approved under the protocol number 311/09. Results: it was noticed that adolescents have in the gym work out a way to stimulate the interest of the opposite sex and have a better performance in the sexual act, being the gym a space to achieve health and socialization. Conclusion: with the gym, young people can achieve the desired physical shape and also arouse interest in the opposite sex, being essential to implement measures to minimize the risk of adolescents to contract an STI. Método: trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva com abordagem qualitativa, cuja amostra foi de dez adolescentes do sexo masculino. A coleta ocorreu nos meses de dezembro de 2009, janeiro e fevereiro de 2010, totalizando 13 visitas. Como instrumento de coleta de dados utilizou-se questionário aberto e semi-estruturado, assim como a observação e o diário de campo. O projeto de pesquisa foi encaminhado ao Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade Federal do Ceará (COMEPE) e aprovado sob o número do protocolo 311/09. Resultados: percebeu-se que os adolescentes têm na prática de musculação uma forma de despertar o interesse do sexo oposto e ter um melhor desempenho no ato sexual. Sendo na academia um espaço para adquirirem saúde e uma boa socialização. Conclusão: pela academia, os jovens podem atingir a forma física desejada e além de causar interesse no sexo oposto, sendo essencial implementar medidas que possam minimizar os riscos de contrair uma IST aos adolescentes. Métodos: se trata de una investigación descriptiva con enfoque cualitativo, la muestra fue de diez adolescentes del sexo masculino. Los datos fueron recolectados en diciembre de 2009, enero y febrero de 2010, con total de 13 visitas. La investigación tuvo como herramientas de recolección de datos una encuesta abierta y semiestructurada, la observación y el diario de campo. Se cumplieron los aspectos éticos y legales de la investigación, ya que el proyecto fue presentado al Comité de Ética de la Universidad Federal de Ceará con aprobación bajo protocolo 311/09. Resultados: se percibió que los adolescentes poseían en la práctica de musculación una forma de despertar el interés  del sexo opuesto y tener mejor rendimiento en el acto sexual. Se considera los centros de acondicionamiento un espacio para la promoción de la salud y socialización. Conclusión: a través de estos Centros, los jóvenes pueden alcanzar a la forma física deseada y además provocar interés en el sexo opuesto, así es esencial poner en práctica medidas para reducir al mínimo el riesgo para contraer infección de transmisión sexual entre los adolescentes.
