Showing whether the longest-edge (LE) bisection of tetrahedra meshes degenerates the stability condition or not is still an open problem. Some reasons, in part, are due to the cost for achieving the computation of similarity classes of millions of tetrahedra. We prove the existence of tetrahedra where the LE bisection introduces, at most, 37 similarity classes. This family of new tetrahedra was roughly pointed out by Adler in 1983. However, as far as we know, there has been no evidence confirming its existence. We also introduce a new data structure and algorithm for computing the number of similarity tetrahedral classes based on integer arithmetic, storing only the square of edges. The algorithm lets us perform compact and efficient high-level similarity class computations with a cost that is only dependent on the number of similarity classes.

Abstract We operated a microearthquake array in the neighborhood of the proposed high-level nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. The array consists of four high-gain (up to 34 million), narrow band (25 Hz) telemetered stations. Based on approximate magnitude calibration of the array we expect during quiet periods, for distances less than 15 km, complete recording of events at Yucca Mt. for M ≧ −1. We have operated the four stations for 12-hour periods overnight between August and October 1990 and intermittently afterward, until April 1991, when we began more or less continuous operation. The pattern of microearthquake activity confirms the existence of a zone of seismic quiescence in the vicinity of proposed repository. We recorded only about 10 events with S-P times of less than 3 sec (D < 24 km). Most events had S-P times between 3 and 6.5 sec, consistent with the higher seismic activity at distances between 24 and 52 km observed by Rogers et al. (1987) and Gomberg (1991). Oliver et al. (1966) found, contrary to what has been observed by us for Yucca Mountain, that in seismically active areas most of the events had S-P times of less than 3 sec. We confirmed this expectation for four microearthquake stations near Mammoth Lakes, where we observed microearthquake rates of over 100 per day, most with S-P times of less than 3 sec. Extrapolation of seismicity data from the Southern Great Basin Seismic Network confirms the low microearthquake activity in the immediate vicinity of Yucca Mountain.

The presence of rough surface topography in a prospect frequently constitutes a source of error in seismic mapping and poses the question of what computational methods can be applied by which seismic maps may be freed of the effect of surface relief. Various aspects of the problem are described. The use of a plane datum‐horizon is generally adequate as a solution of the problem. For greater refinement, the structural map may be modified to account for the overburden effect, the approximate magnitude of which is considered. Further modification may be required when lateral variations in subweathering velocity occur. Statistical analysis for determining the degree of conformity between surface topography and mapped structure at depth is useful in gathering data on the influence of surface topography.

Discovery of tribenuron-methyl resistant wild Helianthus annuus L. population (ANN-KAN) created an opportunity for expansion of sunflower herbicide resistance breeding program. The aim of this study was development of sunflower hybrids resistant to tribenuron-methyl. Creation of tribenuron-methyl resistant hybrids would enable the use of a wider palette of herbicides for sunflower, more efficient chemical control of Cirsium arvense and more economically profitable post-emergence control of some annual broad-leaves weeds in sunflower. Original populations SURES-1 and SURES-2 are homozygous for resistance to tribenuron-methyl. F1 generations produced from the crossings are completely resistant to tribenuron-methyl, pointing out to dominant way of inheritance of this trait. Studies on the exact number of genes controlling the resistance are in progress. Tribenuron-methyl resistance was transferred from original populations into a number of female and male inbred lines of cultivated sunflower. These inbred lines could enable creation of a number of hybrids resistant to tribenuron-methyl. Hybrids SUMO-1-PR, SUMO-2- OR and SUMO-3 are resistant to doubled application dose of tribenuron-methyl. Agronomical characteristics of these hybrids are on the level with the leading conventional sunflower hybrids.

Tourism industry in the Province of Bali has rapidly developed lately. This has consequently led to the increase of the number of both foreign and domestic tourist who come to visit Bali.The rapid development of tourist industry in Bali has certain impact on the existing demograpgic structure. As an example, the populatuin growth in the tourist areas has increased considerably caused by the number of migrants who came to the region. Most of these people are non-permanent migrants of which the exact number is never known. If prior to the 1970s the population were clustered in the fertile regions, the population distribution has now changed to following the distribution of tourist industry.Tourist industry may stimulate the people of the rural areas to utilize the present existing economic opportunities. Development both in phusycal an non-physycal aspect in the rural areas is followed by the improvement of transport facilities. These close relations have positively influenced the slight demographic structural difference between urban and rural.

The study concerning the classification of the fuzzy subgroups of finite groups is a significant aspect of fuzzy group theory. In early papers, the number of distinct fuzzy subgroups of some nonabelian groups is calculated by the natural equivalence relation. In this paper, we treat to classifying fuzzy subgroups of some groups by a new equivalence relation which has a consistent group theoretical foundation. In fact, we determine exact number of fuzzy subgroups of finite non-abelian groups of order p3 and special classes of dihedral groups.

The Ukrainian Muslim community continues to develop dynamically. However, a purposeful, systematic study of this specific socio-denominational population across the whole country was virtually impossible, due to the extreme complexity of the study of such an object, as well as the lack of any state support for Islamic studies as a field of scientific activity. As a result, the specific social parameters of Muslim living in Ukrainian society over the past 13 years have remained virtually unknown. Moreover, even the exact number of Muslims in the country is unknown. There are only speculative, rough estimates: from the lowered figure of 300,000 to the unreasonably overstated 2 million.

When creating decorative drawings, preschool children build stylized forms – elements and ornaments, rhythmically connected in decorative compositions. The use of rhythm as the main mean of expression is the basis for the improvement of controlled motor skills, which are a necessary condition for the construction of written speech. Developing a sense of coherence between the individual elements and connecting them into a single whole is the challenge in building a decorative composition. The use of an exact number of decorative elements and their logical and rhythmic alternation in the composition help to build a sense of coherence and perfection in the decorative drawings of preschool children.
