AbstractAcute pancreatitis is one of the major gastrointestinal conditions that lead to around 300,000 hospital admissions per year in the United States. While mild inflammation of the pancreas is often managed conservatively, progression of the disease process to necrosis significantly increases the overall morbidity and mortality and often requires surgical or other interventional techniques for management. The purpose of this review is to describe the role of percutaneous drainage for the management of complicated pancreatitis.

AbstractLung ablation is ever more recognized since its initial report and use almost two decades ago. With technological advancements in thermal modalities, particularly microwave ablation and cryoablation, better identification of the cohort of patients who best benefit from ablation, and understanding the role of imaging after ablation, image-guided thermal ablation for primary and secondary pulmonary malignancies is increasingly recognized and accepted as a cogent form of local therapy.

Despite the long-standing research interest in the pre-deal phase of mergers and acquisitions, many important questions remain unanswered. We review and synthesize the extensive but rather fragmented research on this topic area in the fields of management, finance, accounting, and economics. We organize our review according to six themes, that is, deal initiation, target selection, bidding and negotiation, valuation and financing, announcement, and closure, which represent the main categories of activities performed during the pre-deal phase. Our review shows that most of the existing research relies on a rather high-level, simplified, and static conception of the pre-deal phase. On the basis of our review, we put forward a research agenda that calls for a more granular examination of individual activities and decisions, a more comprehensive analysis of the interplay among the different actors involved in the pre-deal phase, a better understanding of the role of the temporal dynamics, and the extension of the theoretical base from variance-based to process-based theorizing.

AbstractPancreas transplantation is an exciting therapy which has been used for several decades in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. It can be performed as either a whole organ or islet cell transplant. The role of interventional radiologists in the management of whole organ transplants is evolving and includes treatment of postoperative complications and graft biopsy to evaluate for rejection. An in-depth understanding of the transplant anatomy and variations is a fundamental tool in performing these interventions successfully. Islet cell transplantation entails delivery of purified donor pancreatic islet cells into the recipient portal vein. Because of their expertise in image-guided access to the portal system, interventional radiologists play a crucial role in this procedure. The purpose of this article is to review the indications, anatomy, complications, and outcomes of both whole organ and islet cell pancreas transplants, followed by a discussion of the role of interventional radiologists in each procedure.
