Bi2VO5.5 (Bi4O11), which is the vanadium analog of the first member of the Aurivillius family of oxides of the general formula Bi2An−1BnO3n+3, has been prepared and characterized. The vanadate has the expected layered structure and is ferroelectric with a Curie temperature of 720 K. While we have not been able to synthesize the vanadium analog of the n = 2 member of the Aurivillius family, we have examined the structure and properties of a vanadate of the composition Bi2V3O9.

Novel acrylated alkoxysilane castor oil with hydrolysable –Si–OCH3 was synthesized via free radical copolymerization. This silane functional castor oil was further reacted with isocyanate to get isocyanate terminated silica hybrid polyurethane–urea prepolymer.

A biodegradable poly (glycerol-glycol-sebacate) terpolymer (PGGS) with different composition is prepared by a three-step method. The structure and properties of the PGGS terpolymers were characterized by means of attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The experiment results indicate that the the composition of terpolymers have an obvious influence on the structure of PGGS terpolymers. The degradation rate increases with the increasing crosslink degree of PGGS.
