Abstract Maintenance of interdental soft tissue and the need for esthetics are being increasingly recognized as important criteria for implant success. Statistically significant correlations have been found between the incidence of implant failure and vertical bone loss adjacent to implants. Thus, it is widely recognized that peri-implant bone resorption before loading may compromise implant success. This study aims to evaluate the effect of flap elevation on peri-implant bone loss during the healing period. Twenty sites around 10 implants were included in the study, and the effect of 2 different flap designs on the crestal height of bone was evaluated. The results of the study have shown that flap elevation can lead to increased bone loss during the healing period, with statistically significant results up to the 90-day period.

ABSTRACT In the past two decades, replacement of missing teeth with implant-supported prostheses has become a widely accepted treatment for oral rehabilitation of partially or fully edentulous patients. With the growing use of implant-supported oral rehabilitation in the partially edentulous patient and single tooth restoration, the emphasis has now changed toward achieving predictable esthetic success, particularly in the maxillary anterior region and patients who may show the peri-implant soft tissue when smiling and speaking. Establishing a soft tissue contour with intact interproximal papillae around implant-retained restoration is challenging, and failure to achieve these harmonious relationships of soft tissue around the implant may lead to unesthetic appearance. In the following case report, the patient presented with an unfavorable tissue contour around an implant restoration. Reshaping of soft tissue was planned. A combination of two surgical techniques was used, which includes a papilla reconstruction and interpositional graft for achieving desired esthetic for a single-stage implant. Following this, sequential molding of marginal gingival tissue was carried out using provisional restoration to obtain an emergence profile. Premature loss of teeth in children leads to space loss and affects arch integrity. The band and loop space maintainer is used in majority of patients requiring single tooth space maintenance in both primary and mixed dentitions. It preserves the proximal dimensions, but it is nonfunctional. This paper describes a method to modify the conventional band and loop space maintainer into a functional one and reports its clinical application and follow-up in five children.
