We present the case of a 63-year-old male patient who suffered bilateral ageusia following a unilateral left-sided mesencephalon infarct. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first description of a mesencephalon lesion leading to ageusia. We discuss the literature on this rare but important symptom following a stroke.

We describe an unusual case of an odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) associated with an ungrafted left-sided alveolar cleft in a 10-year-old male patient. There is no previous report in the literature of OKC or other dental cysts associated with an alveolar cleft. We discuss the management of the OKC prior to secondary bone grafting and present this case to highlight the difficulty in the management of OKC concurrent with grafting of the alveolar cleft site, the proximity of unerupted permanent teeth, and possible treatment modalities.

In this article we report one case of lipoma of the penis in a twenty three years old young male. This site of lipoma is rare. A case of a young male patient who consulted for removal of a penile lump is presented. The small, regular, wellcircumscribed pedunculated tumor localized on the ventral aspect of the penis was excised. The histopathological analysis showed a benign lipoma. A review of the literature showed lipoma of the penis to be very uncommon. Jules Cotard described, in 1880, the case of a patient characterized by delusions of negation, immortality, and guilt as well as melancholic anxiety among other clinical features. Later this constellation of symptoms was given the eponym Cotard’s syndrome, going through a series of theoretical vicissitudes, considering itself currently as just the presence of nihilistic delusions. The presentation of the complete clinical features described by Cotard is a rare occurrence, especially in the context of schizophrenia. Here we present the case of a 50-year-old male patient with schizophrenia who developed Cotard’s syndrome. The patient was treated with aripiprazole, showing improvement after two weeks of treatment. A review of the literature is performed about this case.

Strangulated lumbar hernia is a very rare condition, with no more than 30 cases reported in the literature so far. Therefore, there is no specific management guideline and the diagnosis remains difficult. By reporting the case of a Senegalese male patient who had a preoperative diagnosis of strangulated lumbar hernia, we aim to discuss the diagnosis and therapeutic modalities of this rare entity, which is often misdiagnosed.

Intramedullary Schwannoma

Cervical intramedullary schwannomas are extraordinarily rare. Gross total resection is the best therapeutic option for these types of tumors. Although rare, intramedullary schwannomas should be considered as a differential diagnosis of intramedullary lesions since a good prognosis can be guaranteed to the majority of these patients. We present a case of a cervical intramedullary schwannoma surgically treated in a 19-year-old male patient who initially presented with motor neuron disease.

Hypothenar hammer syndrome is a rare condition with a peculiar presentation that aids in making a clinical diagnosis. We present a 22-year-old male patient who presented with critical hand ischemia secondary to a distal ulnar aneurysm with distal embolization. The patient was treated with an aneurysmectomy with cephalic vein interposition graft, which resulted in complete reversal of his hand ischemia. This case report outlines the clinical presentation of this rare condition, along with a recent review of the literature.
