Gallstone ileus is a rare form of mechanical intestinal obstruction caused by the passage of gallstones in the gastrointestinal lumen and is often diagnosed in elderly females. Diagnosis can be difficult due to nonspecific findings during physical examination and there are a number of options regarding surgical or endoscopic treatment. We report the rare case of a 77- year-old female patient with gastrointestinal obstruction due to a gallstone, but without a cholecystointestinal fistula. Clinicians should be aware of this rare entity especially in emergency situations, as early diagnosis and appropriate subsequent therapy in such cases is essential to reduce mortality.

Gallstone ileus is a rare complication of cholelithiasis that occurs as a result of occlusion of the intestinal lumen by a large sized gallstone accounting for 1-4% cases of small bowel obstruction. The aim of this work is to introduce a case report that emphasize the diagnostic and therapeutic management of gallstone ileus with an enterolith impacted in jejunum (an uncommon site).

Electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis (EDXA) are found to be very useful tools for identification of etiologic agents in pneumoconiosis or interstitial pulmonary disorders. Pulmonary interstitial fibrosis and granulomatosis are frequently associated with occupational and environmental pollution. Numerous reports of pneumoconiosis in various occupations such as coal and gold miners are presented in the literature. However, there is no known documented case of pulmonary changes in workers in the sandpaper industry. This study reports a rare case of pulmonary granulomatosis containing deposits from abrasives of sandpaper diagnosed by using EDXA.
