It is great significance for development of MTDC (Multi-terminal HVDC) to build DC transmission and distribution grids. However, the relatively low impedance in DC grids makes the fault penetration much faster and deeper .Consequently, fast and reliable DC circuit breaker is needed to isolate faults. Breaking time and other parameters are important for a breaker to achieve its goals. This paper presents a DC circuit breaker with a current-limiting inductance and gets the rising and falling characteristics of fault current. Based on the characteristics, a design method of breaking time sequence will be given, as well as the calculation of current-limiting inductance and the selection principles of arresters. A 10kV DC distribution grid is modeled and simulated by PSCAD/EMTDC to verify that the method can meet the requirements of breaking fault current quickly and reliably.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in higher education for imparting easily accessible, affordable and quality higher education leading to the uplift of Malaysia. The focus of the paper is on the benefits that ICT integration in education can provide, right from breaking time and distance barriers to facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among geographically distributed students. ICT increases the flexibility of delivery of education so that learners can access knowledge anytime and anywhere. It can influence the way students are taught and how they learn as now the processes are learner driven and not by teachers. This in turn would better prepare the learners for lifelong learning as well as to contribute to the industry. We will also analyze if ICT does indeed improve or hinder the quality of learning among higher education students. This paper reports on the changing trends in use of ICTs for instruction in higher education institutions (HEIs) and discusses a mini-case study of how ICTs are being used by lecturers in one university in Malaysia.

The article is devoted to the fate of an archaeologist, historian, employee of the Rumyantsev Museum, local historian, head of the section for the protection of museums and monuments of art and antiquities in Arkhangelsk, member and active participant of the Arkhangelsk Church Archaeological Committee and the Arkhangelsk Society for the Study of Russian North K.N. Lyubarsky (1886–1920). The Department of Written Sources of the State Historical Museum stores his archive, which sheds light on the history of his struggle to protect churches and other monuments of art and culture dying in the North of Russia during the revolution and civil war, for the creation of the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum.

Fluctuations breaking time-reversal symmetry are common attributes of dissipative systems operating far from equilibrium. Recent developments in non-equilibrium statistical physics represent a significant step towards an understanding of how time-reversible microscopic laws can yield to inherent irreversibility on meso- or macroscopic scales. Most of the theoretical conclusions consider quantities (e.g. entropy production) that are difficult to obtain with an appropriate accuracy in real systems. Probably less-complicated measures, such as the simple step-number ratio used in this work, can also help to characterize time-asymmetric fluctuations. In the first part, we give a short summary of recent results on asymmetric daily mean temperature changes. The second part discusses total-column ozone fluctuations, where statistically significant asymmetries are also detected. A detailed correlation analysis of ozone signals and high-altitude temperature records supports the strong coupling between tropospheric dynamics and stratospheric processes on synoptic time scales.

Driver inattention is a major contributor to road crashes. The emerging of new driver monitoring systems represents an opportunity for researchers to explore new data sources to understand driver inattention, even if the technology was not developed with this purpose in mind. This study is based on retrospective data obtained from two driver monitoring systems to study distraction and drowsiness risk factors. The data includes information about the trips performed by 330 drivers and corresponding distraction and drowsiness alerts emitted by the systems. The drivers’ historical travel data allowed defining two groups with different mobility patterns (short-distance and long-distance drivers) through a cluster analysis. Then, the impacts of the driver’s profile and trip characteristics (e.g., driving time, average speed, and breaking time and frequency) on inattention were analyzed using ordered probit models. The results show that long-distance drivers, typically associated with professionals, are less prone to distraction and drowsiness than short-distance drivers. The driving time increases the probability of inattention, while the breaking frequency is more important to mitigate inattention than the breaking time. Higher average speeds increase the inattention risk, being associated with road facilities featuring a monotonous driving environment.
