The Impact

Research background: The paper deals with the quality of life and the impact of the pandemic COVID-19 on people’s lives in Slovakia and in selected region. The concept of quality of life and dimensions of quality of life, which are necessary for its evaluation are mentioned, too. It also describes the current state of the issue in Slovakia and abroad on the basis of the selected indicators, where individual countries of the world are compared. Purpose of the article: There are mentioned approaches to quality of life assessment and to conduct a survey of quality of life in a selected region which deals with the development of the quality of life. The paper deals with the analysis of the current state of the problem in Slovakia and abroad. Various definitions of the term quality of life through several authors and views. Methods: Indices in a global and national level for assessment of selected aspects of objective and subjective quality of life in terms of pandemics COVID-19 are mentioned. In order to assess the impact of a pandemic related to COVID-19 on satisfaction of citizens with several aspects of their lives in selected region is analyzed on the basis of an e-survey. Findings & Value added: The result of the article is a comparison of individual indicators of the subjective quality of life in selected EU member states and the Slovak Republic. A survey of the satisfaction of the inhabitants of selected region with selected areas of quality of their lives connected with the COVID-19 pandemic is carried out in order to monitor and evaluate the quality of life at the level of local governments.

Responsiveness of quality of life (QOL) assessments in chronic schizophrenic patients was investigated by a quasi-experimental pilot study. Satisfaction ratings were assessed over five time points with an externally imposed disturbing stimulus at the second time point. Despite a markedly high stability, the disturbance provoked a temporally limited decrease in QOL.

Many factors of micro and macroeconomic nature affect the level and quality of life of the population, including occupational activity and related remuneration or living conditions. Satisfaction of life is considered as the primary indicator of subjective quality of life assessment. The purpose of this paper was to present the level and quality of women’s life with special attention paid to unemployed women in rural areas, based on the example of the Siedlce district. Quality of life was assessed on the basis of subjective factors. The main research tool was a questionnaire survey which enabled the information on the sociodemographic characteristics of the respondents and the analysis of the question. The conducted research found that the majority of the surveyed women from the rural areas of the Siedlce county assessed their standard of living as average. A large group of women living in rural areas declared their intention to emigrate to the city.

Objectives: Quality of life is regarded as a major outcome in epidemiologic research, especially in the older population. Nevertheless, some cohort studies lack a specific instrument to evaluate it. The aim of this study was to propose a subjective quality of life proxy using easily accessible items, available in most epidemiologic studies. Method: We used data from the PAQUID (Personnes Agées Quid) cohort study (1991-1992, France). A subjective quality of life proxy was created based on items on positive affects, subjective health, and life satisfaction. Logistic and linear regression models as well as Cox survival models were used to assess the association between the proxy score and depression, dependence, cognitive complaints, adverse life events, comorbidities, and death. Analyses were replicated in an independent cohort study, AMI (Approche Multidisciplinaire intégrée; 2007-2008, France). All models were adjusted for age, sex, Mini-Mental State Examination score, and place of residence. Results: In the PAQUID sample (n = 2135), we found significant associations between the proxy score and the selected health outcomes. We found the same associations in the AMI cohort. Conclusion: This proxy might be useful when no gold standard for quality of life assessment is available or when in need of a short but reliable instrument that will not require extended administration time.
