ABSTRACT:Spinal dysraphism is an umbrella term that encompasses a number of congenital malformations that affect the central nervous system. The etiology of these conditions can be traced back to a specific defect in embryological development, with the more disabling malformations occurring at an earlier gestational age. A thorough understanding of the relevant neuroembryology is imperative for clinicians to select the correct treatment and prevent complications associated with spinal dysraphism. This paper will review the neuroembryology associated with the various forms of spinal dysraphism and provide a clinical-pathological correlation for these congenital malformations.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare neoplasm occurring in the central nervous system. It rarely occurs in the spine. This paper reports the fifth case of SFT in a 34-year-old female and focusses on differential diagnosis and importance of surgical treatment.

The authors propose a set of rehabilitation exercises concerning the muscles which are responsible for the movement of the eyeball. After surgical treatments of the back – of – the – eyeball tumors, the function of the eyeball muscles is often not appropriate. Some compensation should be created at the level of the Central Nervous System, which means trigging adaptation, substitution and habituation. The exercises should be started just after waking the patient up: first in the horizontal position, then sitting position and finally standing position. The highest number of exercises should be done in the direction of the extreme diplopia.
