LetA0be a closed, minimal symmetric operator from a Hilbert spaceℍintoℍwith domain not dense inℍ. LetA^also be a correct selfadjoint extension ofA0. The purpose of this paper is (1) to characterize, with the help ofA^, all the correct selfadjoint extensionsBofA0with domain equal toD(A^), (2) to give the solution of their corresponding problems, (3) to find sufficient conditions forBto be positive (definite) whenA^is positive (definite).

Let H be a Hilbert space with inner product 〈,). A well-known theorem of von Neumann states that, if S is a symmetric operator in H, then S has a selfadjoint extension in H if and only if S has equal deficiency indices. This result was extended by Naimark, who proved that, even if the deficiency indices of S are unequal, there always exists a Hilbert space H1 such that H ⊆ H1 and S has a selfadjoint extension in H1.

An operator T on a complex Hilbert space is d-symmetric if , where is the uniform closure of the range of the derivation operator δT(X)=TX−XT. It is shown that if the commutator ideal of the inclusion algebra for a d-symmetric operator is the ideal of all compact operators then T has countable spectrum and T is a quasidiagonal operator. It is also shown that if for a d-symmetric operator I(T) is the double commutant of T then T is diagonal.

An operator T on a complex Hilbert space H is called complex symmetric if T has a symmetric matrix representation relative to some orthonormal basis for H. This paper focuses on the perturbation theory for the spectra of complex symmetric operators. We prove that each complex symmetric operator on a complex separable Hilbert space has a small compact perturbation being complex symmetric and having the single-valued extension property. Also it is proved that each complex symmetric operator on a complex separable Hilbert space has a small compact perturbation being complex symmetric and satisfying generalized Weyl?s theorem.

In this paper, a general HELP (Hardy–Everitt–Littlewood–Pólya) inequality is considered which is connected with a symmetric operator in a Hilbert space and abstract boundary mappings. A criterion for the validity of such an inequality in terms of the abstract Titchmarsh–Weyl function is proved and applied to Sturm–Liouville operators, difference operators, a Hamiltonian system and a block operator matrix.

Let $A$ be a symmetric linear relation in the Hilbert space $\gH$ with unequal deficiency indices $n_-A <n_+(A)$. A self-adjoint linear relation $\wt A\supset A$ in some Hilbert space $\wt\gH\supset \gH$ is called an (exit space) extension of $A$. We study the compressions $C (\wt A)=P_\gH\wt A\up\gH$ of extensions $\wt A=\wt A^*$. Our main result is a description of compressions $C (\wt A)$ by means of abstract boundary conditions, which are given in terms of a limit value of the Nevanlinna parameter $\tau(\l)$ from the Krein formula for generalized resolvents. We describe also all extensions $\wt A=\wt A^*$ of $A$ with the maximal symmetric compression $C (\wt A)$ and all extensions $\wt A=\wt A^*$ of the second kind in the sense of M.A. Naimark. These results generalize the recent results by A. Dijksma, H. Langer and the author obtained for symmetric operators $A$ with equal deficiency indices $n_+(A)=n_-(A)$.

Abstract By means of the Banach fixed point principle, we establish some sufficient conditions ensuring the existence of the global attracting sets of neutral stochastic functional integrodifferential equations with finite delay driven by a fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter H ∈ ( 1 2 , 1 ) {H\in(\frac{1}{2},1)} in a Hilbert space.

AbstractIn this paper, we study some local spectral properties of operators having form JTJ, where J is a conjugation on a Hilbert space H and $$T\in L(H)$$ T ∈ L ( H ) . We also study the relationship between the quasi-nilpotent part of the adjoint $$T^*$$ T ∗ and the analytic core K(T) in the case of decomposable complex symmetric operators. In the last part we consider Weyl type theorems for triangular operator matrices for which one of the entries has form JTJ, or has form $$JT^*J$$ J T ∗ J . The theory is exemplified in some concrete cases.

AbstractWe give some sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of the solution of a higher-order linear differential equation with unbounded coefficients in the Hilbert space. We obtain some estimates for the weighted norms of the solution and its derivatives. Using these estimates, we show the conditions for the compactness of some integral operators associated with the resolvent.

AbstractSymmetric operators have benefited in different fields not only in mathematics but also in other sciences. They appeared in the studies of boundary value problems and spectral theory. In this note, we present a new symmetric differential operator associated with a special class of meromorphically multivalent functions in the punctured unit disk. This study explores some of its geometric properties. We consider a new class of analytic functions employing the suggested symmetric differential operator.

In [6] Conway and Morrell characterized those operators on Hilbert space that are points of continuity of the spectrum. They also gave necessary and sufficient conditions that a biquasitriangular operator be a point of spectral continuity. Our point of view in this note is slightly different. Given a point T of spectral continuity, we ask what can then be inferred. Several of our results deal with invariant subspaces. We also give some conditions characterizing a biquasitriangular point of spectral continuity (Theorem 3). One of these is that the operator and its adjoint both have the single-valued extension property.
