Let X i , Y i i = 1,2 be Banach spaces. The operator matrix of the form M C = A C 0 B acting between X 1 ⊕ X 2 and Y 1 ⊕ Y 2 is investigated. By using row and column operators, equivalent conditions are obtained for M C to be left Weyl, right Weyl, and Weyl for some C ∈ ℬ X 2 , Y 1 , respectively. Based on these results, some sufficient conditions are also presented. As applications, some discussions on Hamiltonian operators are given in the context of Hilbert spaces.

In the present work, we extend, to the setting of reflexive smooth Banach spaces, the class of primal lower nice functions, which was proposed, for the first time, in finite dimensional spaces in [Nonlinear Anal. 1991, 17, 385–398] and enlarged to Hilbert spaces in [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 1995, 347, 1269–1294]. Our principal target is to extend some existing characterisations of this class to our Banach space setting and to study the relationship between this concept and the generalised V-prox-regularity of the epigraphs in the sense proposed recently by the authors in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 2019, 475, 699–29].

In this paper, we will establish some results on perturbation theory of block operator matrices acting on Xn, where X is a Banach space. These results are exploited to investigate the M-essential spectra of a general class of operators defined by a 3x3 block operator matrix acting on a product of Banach spaces X3.

Norm-attainable operators have been studied over a period of time with nice results obtained particularly in Hilbert spaces. In this work, we consider the Banach space setting by characterizing nonpower operators on H and elementary operators. Lastly, we characterize a new notion of norm-attainability for power operators in general Banach spaces.

In this paper we adopt the notion of orthogonality in Banach spaces introduced by the author in [6]. There, the author showed that in any two-dimensional subspace F of E, every nonzero element admits at most one orthogonal direction. The problem of existence of such orthogonal direction was not addressed before. Our main purpose in this paper is the investigation of this problem in the case where E is a real Banach space. As a result we obtain a characterisation of Hilbert spaces stating that, if in every two-dimensional subspace F of E every nonzero element admits an orthogonal direction, then E is isometric to a Hilbert space. We conclude by presenting some open problems.

In this article, we study the Mazur–Ulam property of the sum of two strictly convex Banach spaces. We give an equivalent form of the isometric extension problem and two equivalent conditions to decide whether all strictly convex Banach spaces admit the Mazur–Ulam property. We also find necessary and sufficient conditions under which the $\ell ^{1}$-sum and the $\ell ^{\infty }$-sum of two strictly convex Banach spaces admit the Mazur–Ulam property.

Let $M_C=\begin{pmatrix} A & C \\ 0 & B \\ \end{pmatrix}\in\LB(\x,\y)$ be be an upper triangulate Banach spaceoperator. The relationship between the spectra of $M_C$ and $M_0,$ and theirvarious distinguished parts, has been studied by a large number of authors inthe recent past. This paper brings forth the important role played by SVEP,the {\it single-valued extension property,} in the study of some of these relations. In this work, we prove necessary and sufficient conditions of implication of the type $M_0$ satisfies property $(w)$ $\Leftrightarrow$ $M_C$ satisfies property $(w)$ to hold. Moreover, we explore certain conditions on $T\in\LB(\hh)$ and $S\in\LB(\K)$ so that the direct sum $T\oplus S$ obeys property $(w)$, where $\hh$ and $\K$ are Hilbert spaces.

In this paper we investigate analytic functions of unbounded type on a complex infinite dimensional Banach space X. The main question is: under which conditions is there an analytic function of unbounded type on X such that its Taylor polynomials are in prescribed subspaces of polynomials? We obtain some sufficient conditions for a function f to be of unbounded type and show that there are various subalgebras of polynomials that support analytic functions of unbounded type. In particular, some examples of symmetric analytic functions of unbounded type are constructed.

The Opial property of Hilbert spaces and some other special Banach spaces is a powerful tool in establishing fixed point theorems for nonexpansive and, more generally, nonspreading mappings. Unfortunately, not every Banach space shares the Opial property. However, every Banach space has a similar Bregman-Opial property for Bregman distances. In this paper, using Bregman distances, we introduce the classes of Bregman nonspreading mappings and investigate the Mann and Ishikawa iterations for these mappings. We establish weak and strong convergence theorems for Bregman nonspreading mappings.

The main topic of this paper is the group invertibility of operators in Hilbert spaces. Conditions for the existence of the group inverses of products of two operators and the group invertibility of anti-triangular block operator matrices are studied. The equivalent conditions related to the reverse order law for the group inverses of operators are obtained.

Necessary and sufficient conditions for a Banach space with the Mazur intersection property to be an Asplund space are given. It is proved that Mazur intersection property is determined by the separable subspaces of the space. Corresponding problems for a space to have the ball-generated property are considered. Some comments on possible renorming so that a space having the Mazur intersection property are given.
