In this work, we analyze performances of the unmanned aerial vehicle- (UAV-) assisted wireless powered sensor communication, where sensor transmission ability is supported by the UAV. Harvested energy from the UAV-broadcasted signal is further used at the sensor nodes for uplink information transmission to the UAV, over assumed shadowed κ − μ fading channels. Here, we observe a general scenario in which due to the flight conditions of the UAV, the channel’s content include the LOS components affected by the shadowing effect, modeled by the general shadowed κ − μ channel model, which can be reduced to other well-known channel models as its special cases. We derive closed-form expressions for the outage probability (OP) of such wireless sensor network (WSN) operating in shadowed κ − μ fading environments. Further, we analyze the optimization of time allocation to minimize OP subjected to UAV’s energy constraints. The impact of channel parameters on observed performance measures is analyzed, and obtained results are numerically validated.

In this paper, a monitoring technique based on the wireless sensor network is investigated. The sensor nodes used for monitoring are developed in a simulation environment. Accordingly, the structure and workflow of wireless sensor network nodes are designed. Time-division multiple access (TDMA) protocol has been chosen as the medium access technique to ensure that the designed technique operates in an energy-efficient manner and packet collisions are not experienced. Fading channels, i.e., no interference, Ricean and Rayleigh, are taken into consideration. Energy consumption is decreased with the help of ad-hoc communication of sensor nodes. Throughput performance for different wireless fading channels and energy consumption are evaluated. The simulation results show that the sensor network can quickly collect medium information and transmit data to the processing center in real time. Besides, the proposed technique suggests the usefulness of wireless sensor networks in the terrestrial areas.

The algorithm, by translating the node coordinate, simplifies the solution to double center coordinate matrix, and gets the coordinate inner product matrix; then it uses statistical uncorrelated vectors to reconstruct the coordinates of the inner product matrix and remove the correlation of inner matrix of coordinates caused by the ranging error, so as to reduce the impact of ranging error on subsequent positioning accuracy. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm does not consider the network traffic, bust still has good performance in localization. At last, it is concluded that reducing the amount of communication of sensor nodes is beneficial to prolong the service life of the sensor nodes, thus increasing the lifetime of the whole network.</span>

The purpose of this work was to investigate the air-to-air channel model (A2A-CM) for unmanned aerial vehicle- (UAV-) enabled wireless communications. Specifically, a low-altitude small UAV needs to characterize the propagation mechanisms from ground reflection. In this paper, the empirical path loss channel characterizations of A2A ground reflection CM based on different scenarios were presented by comparing the wireless communication modules for UAVs. Two types of wireless communication modules both WiFi 2.4 GHz and LoRa 868 MHz frequency were deployed to study the path loss channel characterization between Tx-UAV and Rx-UAV. To investigate the path loss, three types of experimental channel models, such as CM1 grass floor, CM2 soil floor, and CM3 rubber floor, were considered under the ground reflection condition. The analytical A2A Two-Ray (A2AT-R) model and the modified Log-Distance model were simulated to compare the correlation with the measurement data. The measurement results in the CM3 rubber floor scenario showed the impact from the ground reflection at 1 m to 3 m Rx-UAV altitudes both 2.4 GHz and 868 MHz which was converged to the A2AT-R model and related to the modified Log-Distance model above 3 m. It clear that there is no ground reflection effect from the CM1 grass floor and CM2 soil floor. This work showed that the analytical A2AT-R model and the modified Log-Distance model can deploy to model the path loss of A2A-CM by using WiFi and LoRa wireless modules.

Natural disasters have mercilessly devastated our lives in so many different terms. The impact of Earthquake and landslides are very severe because of their unpredictability. To alleviate the problem early warning system plays an important role. In this paper, we proposed an integrated earthquake and landslide monitoring system overthewireless sensor network. The Wireless Sensor Network is programmed to acquire the data, which is monitored and controlled centrally or independently and can be distributed widely in a random or planned deployment. By detecting suspicious indications such as tremor or landslides through sensor nodes, the system provides information to the monitoring and warning station. The processing unit is composed of arduino and Sensors such as 4.5 Flex Sensor, Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor and a3-Dimensional Accelerometer are used in the proposed system to monitor landmass displacement/movement, the moisture level of the soil and the vibrations for earthquakes respectively. An RF module, XBee S2C is used which provides wireless communication with a range of about a 1 km line of sight and 60 meters indoor. The real-time data can be accessed via the internet. It will be powered from a 12V 20W solar panel with rechargeable Li-Ion Battery and fitted with necessary protection and charging circuit boards. The proposed system can be used in earthquake and landslide prone area to avoid damages to life and property in the area of operation by providing crucial information and further warning for any disastrous development. The proposed system is implemented through experiments and proved to be effective

Symmetry-based channel digital twin is a great technology which can reproduce the communication channel of real scenes for performance evaluation of the wireless sensor network (WSN) inside tower buildings, based on the ray tracing (RT) method and machine learning (ML) theories, a cluster-based channel model is proposed in this paper. Meanwhile, an improved k-means method, which considers the weight of different dimensions in the multipath component distance (MCD) is presented for clustering, which has better clustering performance over the sparsity-based algorithm and traditional k-means algorithm. Moreover, the channel parameters such as cluster delay and cluster power are also investigated. On this basis, the communication performance of WSN, i.e., bit error rate (BER) and channel capacity are derived and analyzed. The simulation and analysis results show that the cluster model based on the RT method can get approximately equivalent channel impulse response (CIR), and the BER of proposed model is consistent with the simulated one. These results can provide reference for the node layout and optimization of WSN inside tower buildings.

An unmanned aerial vehicle- (UAV-) based monitoring system is developed as an intermediate system between aerial survey and ground survey. All the measurement tools are mounted on the UAV to acquire detailed information from low altitudes which is different from a satellite or a plane. The monitoring is carried out from the sky, but the spatial and temporal resolutions are freely selected near the ground. In this study, the data is easily acquired with safety and mobility by the utilization of a sensor web. A sensor web is a type of sensor network which is well suited for environmental monitoring. Sensor nodes are spatially distributed and wirelessly communicate with each other. In this study, the UAV-based system is considered as a mobile sensor node. This study proposes a combination of UAV-based monitoring with a ubiquitous sensor network.

A Wireless Sensor Network (WSNs) is a collection of number of sensor nodes which are left open in an unsecured environment. Sensor nodes work and communicate together to attain the desired goals. They are placed at the locations where monitoring is otherwise impossible. Wireless Sensor Networks are resource constrained which may be computational power, memory capacity, battery power etc. As Wireless Sensor Networks are implemented in the unattended environment, they are prone to discrete type of security attacks. Because of their limitations these networks are easily targeted by intruders. Sinkhole attack is one of the security attacks which try to disturb the ongoing communication in wireless sensor network. In sinkhole attack, the intruder or the malicious node try to attract the network traffic towards itself, that sensor nodes will pass data packets through this compromised node thereby manipulating messages which sensor nodes are transferring to the base station. In this paper we analyze the impact of Sinkhole attack on AODV protocol under various conditions. We analyzed the impact of Sinkhole attack on AODV protocol with varying number of attacker nodes.

Clustering in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is one of the methods to minimize the energy usage of sensor network. The design of sensor network itself can prolong the lifetime of network. Cluster head in each cluster is an important part in clustering to ensure the lifetime of each sensor node can be preserved as it acts as an intermediary node between the other sensors. Sensor nodes have the limitation of its battery where the battery is impossible to be replaced once it has been deployed. Thus, this paper presents an improvement of clustering algorithm for two-tier network as we named it as Multi-Tier Algorithm (MAP). For the cluster head selection, fuzzy logic approach has been used which it can minimize the energy usage of sensor nodes hence maximize the network lifetime. MAP clustering approach used in this paper covers the average of 100Mx100M network and involves three parameters that worked together in order to select the cluster head which are residual energy, communication cost and centrality. It is concluded that, MAP dominant the lifetime of WSN compared to LEACH and SEP protocols. For the future work, the stability of this algorithm can be verified in detailed via different data and energy.

Background: It is important to improve the quality of service by using congestion detection technology to find the potential congestion as early as possible in wireless sensor network. Methods: So an improved congestion control scheme based on traffic assignment and reassignment algorithm is proposed for congestion avoidance, detection and mitigation. The congestion area of the network is detected by predicting and setting threshold. When the congestion occurs, sensor nodes can be recovery quickly from congestion by adopting reasonable method of traffic reassignment. And the method can ensure the data in the congestion areas can be transferred to noncongestion areas as soon as possible. Results: The simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme can reduce the number of loss packets, improve the throughput, stabilize the average transmission rate of source node and reduce the end-to-end delay. Conclusion: : So the proposed scheme can enhance the overall performance of the network. Keywords: wireless sensor network; congestion control; congestion detection; congestion mitigation; traffic assignment; traffic reassignment.
