As a main source of power, diesel engines are widely used in large mechanical systems. Fire failure is a kind of common fault condition, which seriously affects the power and economy of the diesel engine. Previously, scholars mostly used single-channel signal to diagnose the misfire fault of the diesel engine. However, the single-channel signal has limitations in reflecting the information of fault. A novel fault diagnosis method based on MEMD and dispersion entropy is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the multichannel vibration signal of the diesel engine cylinder head is decomposed by multivariate empirical mode decomposition (MEMD), which obtains the IMF component groups with the same frequency in the same order. Then, the IMF component with a large correlation coefficient with the original signal in each group is selected to reconstruct new signal, and dispersion entropy (DE) of the reconstructed signal is calculated as a fault feature vector. Finally, the fault feature vector is input into the support vector machine (SVM) for misfire fault classification. Compared with the other three methods, the results show that the diagnosis method proposed in this paper can effectively extract the fault features and accurately identify the fault type, which is superior to the comparison method.

This paper presents a fault diagnosis method of roller bearings based on intrinsic mode function (IMF) kurtosis and support vector machine (SVM). In order to improve the performance of kurtosis under strong levels of background noise, the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method is used to decompose the bearing vibration signals into a number of IMFs. The IMF kurtosis is then calculated because of its sensitivity of impulses caused by faults. Subsequently, the IMF kurtosis values are treated as fault feature vectors and input into SVM for fault classification. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach in roller bearing fault diagnosis.

High voltage circuit breaker is one of the most significant devices and its health status will impact security of the power system. In this paper, the method of high voltage circuit breakers mechanical fault diagnosis is discussed, fault diagnosis method based on vibration signal is proposed. Firstly, the collected acoustic signals are proceed by blind source separation processing through fast independent component analysis. Then, the acoustic signal feature vector is extracted by improved ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and the residual signal is filtered by fractional differential. Finally, the feature vectors are input into support vector machine (SVM) for fault diagnosis. Experiment shows that the proposed method can get more precise fault classification to high voltage circuit breakers.

In the fault monitoring of rotating machinery, the vibration signal of the bearing and gear in a complex operating environment has poor stationarity and high noise. How to accurately and efficiently identify various fault categories is a major challenge in rotary fault diagnosis. Most of the existing methods only analyze the single channel vibration signal and do not comprehensively consider the multi-channel vibration signal. Therefore, this paper presents Refined Composite Multivariate Multiscale Fluctuation Dispersion Entropy (RCMMFDE), a method which extracts the recognition information of multi-channel signals with different scale factors, and the refined composite analysis ensures the recognition stability. The simulation results show that this method has the characteristics of low sensitivity to signal length and strong anti-noise ability. At the same time, combined with Joint Mutual Information Maximisation (JMIM) and support vector machine (SVM), RCMMFDE-JMIM-SVM fault diagnosis method has been proposed. This method uses RCMMFDE to extract the state characteristics of the multiple vibration signals of the rotary machine, and then uses the JMIM method to extract the sensitive characteristics. Finally, different states of the rotary machine are classified by SVM. The validity of the method is verified by the composite gear fault data set and bearing fault data set. The diagnostic accuracy of the method is 99.25% and 100.00%. The experimental results show that RCMMFDE-JMIM-SVM can effectively recognize multiple signals.

Abstract The kernel function parameter g and penalty factor c in Support Vector Machine (SVM) will have an important impact on the fault classification and performance of the support vector machine. Based on this, a fault analysis and diagnosis model using ant colony algorithm to optimize support vector machine is proposed to improve the accuracy of gearbox fault diagnosis. First, the collected original vibration signal is decomposed by EEMD to obtain the modal function component IMF, and then the energy entropy of the IMF component is calculated as the feature vector of the original vibration signal. Finally, the feature vector is input to the support vector optimized by the ant colony algorithm identify and classify in the machine, and finally get the diagnosis result. Comparing ACO-SVM with SVM, the experimental results prove that the ACO-SVM model has a higher fault diagnosis rate, stronger optimization ability, and faster convergence speed.

In analog circuit, the component parameters have tolerances and the fault component parameters present a wide distribution, which brings obstacle to classification diagnosis. To tackle this problem, this article proposes a soft fault diagnosis method combining the improved barnacles mating optimizer(BMO) algorithm with the support vector machine (SVM) classifier, which can achieve the minimum redundancy and maximum relevance for feature dimension reduction with fuzzy mutual information. To be concrete, first, the improved barnacles mating optimizer algorithm is used to optimize the parameters for learning and classification. We adopt six test functions that are on three data sets from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) machine learning repository to test the performance of SVM classifier with five different optimization algorithms. The results show that the SVM classifier combined with the improved barnacles mating optimizer algorithm is characterized with high accuracy in classification. Second, fuzzy mutual information, enhanced minimum redundancy, and maximum relevance principle are applied to reduce the dimension of the feature vector. Finally, a circuit experiment is carried out to verify that the proposed method can achieve fault classification effectively when the fault parameters are both fixed and distributed. The accuracy of the proposed fault diagnosis method is 92.9% when the fault parameters are distributed, which is 1.8% higher than other classifiers on average. When the fault parameters are fixed, the accuracy rate is 99.07%, which is 0.7% higher than other classifiers on average.

The vibration signals of gearbox gear fault signatures are informative components that can be used for gearbox fault diagnosis and early fault detection. However, the vibration signals are normally non-linear and non-stationary, and they contain background noise caused by data acquisition systems and the interference of other machine elements. Especially in conditions with varying rotational speeds, the informative components are blended with complex, unwanted components inside the vibration signal. Thus, to use the informative components from a vibration signal for gearbox fault diagnosis, the noise needs to be properly distilled from the informational signal as much as possible before analysis. This paper proposes a novel gearbox fault diagnosis method based on an adaptive noise reducer–based Gaussian reference signal (ANR-GRS) technique that can significantly reduce noise and improve classification from a one-against-one, multiclass support vector machine (OAOMCSVM) for the fault types of a gearbox. The ANR-GRS processes the shaft rotation speed to access and remove noise components in the narrowbands between two consecutive sideband frequencies along the frequency spectrum of a vibration signal, enabling the removal of enormous noise components with minimal distortion to the informative signal. The optimal output signal from the ANR-GRS is then extracted into many signal feature vectors to generate a qualified classification dataset. Finally, the OAOMCSVM classifies the health states of an experimental gearbox using the dataset of extracted features. The signal processing and classification paths are generated using the experimental testbed. The results indicate that the proposed method is reliable for fault diagnosis in a varying rotational speed gearbox system.

As the poor generability of special sensor support frame and the inconvenience of signal acquisition in the process of common fault diagnosis for cracked rotor, a new fault diagnosis method is presented in this paper. this method takes the basement of rotor test rig as the monitoring objects and makes feature fusion for time-domain statistics of multiple sensors using SVM (support vector machine). The result of experiment showed that the method using the multi-sensor signal fusion technology collected from the basement of machinery has the advantages of better diagnostic precision for rotor crack diagnosis, furthermore, it supplies a new way for rotor fault diagnosis.

Traditional fault diagnosis methods mainly depend on the vector model to describe a signal, which will lead to information loss and the curse of dimensionality. In order to overcome these problems, in this paper an improved multi-linear subspace (MLS) method and locally linear embedding (LLE) are integrated (MLSLLE) to extract significant features. To obtain more information, first it is suggested that multiple sensors should be used to sample the vibration signal of a machine from different positions; then, these data are projected into different subspaces, where each sample is represented as a tensor form, respectively; finally, higher-order singular value decomposition and LLE are introduced to extract significant features. Thus a fault diagnosis method is proposed based on MLSLLE and support vector machines. The advantages of the proposed fault diagnosis method are validated by two real bearing data sets.

During the operation process of a gearbox, the vibration signals can reflect the dynamic states of the gearbox. The feature extraction of the vibration signal will directly influence the accuracy and effectiveness of fault diagnosis. One major challenge associated with the extraction process is the mode mixing, especially under such circumstance of intensive frequency. A novel fault diagnosis method based on frequency-modulated empirical mode decomposition is proposed in this paper. Firstly, several stationary intrinsic mode functions can be obtained after the initial vibration signal is processed using frequency-modulated empirical mode decomposition method. Using the method, the vibration signal feature can be extracted in unworkable region of the empirical mode decomposition. The method has the ability to separate such close frequency components, which overcomes the major drawback of the conventional methods. Numerical simulation results showed the validity of the developed signal processing method. Secondly, energy entropy was calculated to reflect the changes in vibration signals in relation to faults. At last, the energy distribution could serve as eigenvector of support vector machine to recognize the dynamic state and fault type of the gearbox. The analysis results from the gearbox signals demonstrate the effectiveness and veracity of the diagnosis approach.

Taking aim at the nonstationary nonlinearity of the rolling bearing vibration signal, a rolling bearing fault diagnosis method based on the entropy fusion feature of complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) is proposed in combination with information fusion theory. First, CEEMD of the vibration signal of the rolling bearing is performed. Then the signal is decomposed into the sum of several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), and the singular entropy, energy entropy, and permutation entropy are obtained for the IMFs with fault features. Second, the feature extraction method of entropy fusion is proposed, and the three entropy data obtained are input into kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) for feature fusion and dimensionality reduction to obtain complementary features. Finally, the extracted features are imported into the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize the least-squares support vector machine (LSSVM) for fault classification. Through experimental verification, the proposed method can be used for roller bearing fault diagnosis.
