Due to rapid population growth and increasing demand for high-quality and fresh agricultural products, it is essential to develop advanced transportation networks and distribution centers for perishable vegetables, particularly in urban areas. In this paper, a distribution center model is designed to speed up urban vegetable distribution and reduce transportation and economic costs. This paper develops an algorithm to solve the nonlinear problem and provides numerical analysis to illustrate the proposed solution. It discusses the effects of various system parameters on the decisions and total transportation cost. An improved model of the location selection for the organic vegetable distribution center and sorting center is calculated. The optimum locations of urban organic vegetables distribution center and sorting center are achieved. A real case of an agricultural product supply chain in Zhengzhou City is used to verify the model. The results of this study can serve as a reference for business administrators and managers.

The high transportation cost of the parts of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) has received a great deal of attention lately, and different approaches for solving the problem have been taken. In this paper, a bi-level programming model is developed to decompose the distribution center location problem for the parts of ELVs in order to obtain a trade-off between the location cost of the distribution center and the transportation cost. The upper level determines the sites of distribution centers and the lower level represents the delivery routes under any location pattern of candidate sites of distribution centers. The proposed model is illustrated by real data and the results demonstrate that it can be an effective method to determinate a distribution center for ELVs.

Large facilities in urban areas, such as storage facilities, distribution centers, schools, department stores, or public service centers, typically generate high volumes of accessing traffic, causing congestion and becoming major sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. In conventional facility-location models, only facility construction costs and fixed transportation costs connecting customers and facilities are included, without consideration of traffic congestion and the subsequent GHG emission costs. This study proposes methods to find high-demand facility locations with incorporation of the traffic congestion and GHG emission costs incurred by both existing roadway traffic and facility users into the total cost. Tabu search and memetic algorithms were developed and tested with a conventional genetic algorithm in a variety of networks to solve the proposed mathematical model. A case study to determine the total number and locations of community service centers under multiple scenarios in Incheon City is then presented. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach can significantly reduce both the transportation and GHG emission costs compared to the conventional facility-location model. This effort will be useful for decision makers and transportation planners in the analysis of network-wise impacts of traffic congestion and vehicle emission when deciding the locations of high demand facilities in urban areas.

Increasing demand for smaller consumer electronic devices with multi-function capabilities has driven the packaging architectures trends for the finer-pitch interconnects, thus increasing chances of their failures. A simulation of the Board Level Drop-Test according to JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Council) is performed to evaluate the solder joint reliability under drop impact test. After good insights to the physics of the problem, the results of the numerical analysis on a simple Euler-Bernoulli beam were validated against analytical analysis. Since the simulation has to be performed on ANSYS Mechanical which is an implicit software, two methods were proposed, the acceleration-input and the displacement-input. The results are the same for both methods. Therefore, the simulation is carried on the real standard model construction of the board package level2. Then a new improved model is proposed to satisfy shape regular element and accuracy. All the models are validated to show excellent first level correlation on the dynamic responses of Printed Circuit Board, and second level correlation on solder joint stress. Then a static model useful for quick design analysis and optimization’s works is proposed and validated. Finally, plasticity behavior is introduced on the solder ball and a non-linear analysis is performed.

PurposeConsidering the contribution of freight villages (FVs) to the economy and sector, transportation cost advantage, environmental externalities, labor costs, employment, etc. criteria evaluation is important in selecting FV location. Environmental sustainability and social dimensions are becoming important criteria for companies in logistics. The purpose of the study is to determine/model the criteria interaction and also determine the criteria priorities in the FV location selection process. Meanwhile, the study aims to evaluate these criteria and present information to researchers and decision makers.Design/methodology/approachSix main criteria and 29 sub-criteria are selected from related literature. Decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method is used for determining/modeling the criteria interaction and sketching interaction diagram, and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is used for determining the criteria priorities. One/two-way pairwise compared main/sub-criteria views are obtained from 48 experts for calculations.Findings“Trade potential”, “transportation networks” and “economic factors” have the highest priorities, respectively, out of six main criteria, and they have the most powerful interactions that put these criteria to the center of decision process. Sub-criteria of “foreign trade potential”, “proximity to the port”, “market opportunities” and “proximity to the railway” out of 29 have a total 36.42% priority, more than one-third of the importance.Originality/valueCriteria are evaluated in FV location selection for FV sustainability using criteria interaction diagrams, affecting/being affected by the level of each criterion and their priorities. This study shows a hybrid derivation from DEMATEL-AHP usage methods together. High-volumed and qualified/experienced expert group judgments in Turkey are evaluated.

A Synchronous Optimization for Multiship Shuttle Tanker Fleet Design and Scheduling is solved in the context of development of floating production storage and offloading device (FPSO). In this paper, the shuttle tanker fleet scheduling problem is considered as a vehicle routing problem with hard time window constraints. A mixed integer programming model aiming at minimizing total transportation cost is proposed to model this problem. To solve this model, we propose an exact algorithm based on the column generation and perform numerical experiments. The experiment results show that the proposed model and algorithm can effectively solve the problem.

With the development of modern logistics system, the automatic logistics distribution centers have been built in most tobacco enterprises. The packaging system plays important role in the distribution center, it is necessary to construct a set of scientific method to evaluate the packaging system mode. According to the real situation of tobacco logistics distribution center, the cost and benefit are set to the general goal. For these three modes of packaging system, packaging by hand, automatic packaging and packaging by heat-shrinkable material, the evaluation index system and hierarchical structure are built. Refer to the hierarchical chart and the principle of AHP, the weight of each index is calculated. On the basis of weight that worked out by AHP, the final evaluation result can be found and analyzed follow the principle of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Finally, reference the consequences of the FCE, the DEA model based on FCE is used to enhance the integrality and systematic of the evaluate result.

Climate change poses serious challenges to achieving food security in a time of a need to produce more food to keep up with the worlds increasing demand for food. There is an urgent need to speed up the development of new high yielding varieties with traits of adaptation and mitigation to climate change. Mathematical approaches, including ML approaches, have been used to search for such traits, leading to unprecedented results as some of the traits, including heat traits that have been long sought-for, have been found within a short period of time.

Sri Lanka, under the British from the early 19th century to 1948, saw a rapid growth in urban areas and the emergence of metropolitan bourgeoisie. Increasing demand for housing was met through housing schemes and private houses on smaller plots. Previous colonials, the Portuguese and the Dutch, adapted and continued the traditional house forms where outdoor transitional spaces such as verandas and courtyards remained as an integral part responding to climate and socio-cultural needs. However, the British period saw the advent of two noteworthy types of housing—a smaller re-adapted traditional house and an imported version of an all-enclosed house. This study evaluates the shift in socio-spatial role of the outdoor transitional spaces of single-unit houses from pre-colonial time up to independence using graphical analysis of the plan form combined with interviews on use of space.
