In order to solve the problem of difficult support of the roadway with high stress and large-section broken surrounding rock, this paper takes the subinclined shaft in Gaokeng mine of Jiangxi Province as the engineering background, analyzes the deformation mechanism and support mode of the roadway under the influence of mining through field investigation and mechanical derivation, and concludes that the stress concentration point of the roadway is in the middle point of roof and floor and the middle point of left and right sides. Through the modeling analysis of FLAC3D numerical software and the comparison of various support schemes, it is concluded that, after the combined support method of “anchor, net, and spray + grouting + full-section anchor cable + floor anchor cable“ is adopted, the convergence of roof and floor is reduced by 508 mm, and the convergence of two sides is reduced by 663 mm. And, it is applied in engineering practice. The results show that the combined support scheme can effectively control the stability of the surrounding rock.

The selection of the support scheme for deep-buried and large-span chambers has been a severe problem in underground engineering. To further study the mechanical mechanism of large deformation, based on the repair engineering of the chambers of Pingdingshan No.6 mine in China, the field investigation, laboratory test, numerical simulation, and theoretical analysis were studied. The surrounding rock of the central substation chamber (CSC) and the main pumping chamber (MPC) were classified according to the rock mass rating (RMR) classification method, and the main factors affecting the stability of the surrounding rock of the chambers were revealed. A prediction model of mechanical parameters of the surrounding rock was established based on the Hoek-Brown failure criterion. Additionally, the prediction results were used in FLAC3D to further analyze the failure of the original support scheme, and the feasibility of the restoration plan was proposed. Six key points of support technology for this kind of chamber were put forward. Comprehensive support and repair scheme, including “bolt, metal mesh, shotcrete, grouting, anchor cable, and combined anchor cable,” was put forward. The engineering practice indicated that the deformation rate was less than 0.7 mm/d, which was beneficial to the long-term stability of CSC and MPC. The implementation of this restoration project can provide a reference for other similar projects.

The coal side deformation and sliding can not be effectively controlled by use of the traditional bolt or cable support in the high stress crushed surrounding rock and large section roadway. For solving this problem, the new prestressed truss support technology is put forward, and its supporting principles of roof and two walls are stated. The mechanical model of cable-channel steel truss is established, and then the tensile strength of the cable and the maximum deflection of the channel steel are derived. By way of field investigation, mechanics theory analysis and actual production condition, the scheme is defined and applied in the replacement roadway. Measurement results of surrounding rock behavior show that the coal side displacement is no more than 254mm and the roof convergence is less than 172mm. Apparent economic and technical profits have been achieved.

Abstract The high stress of the surrounding rock of Hexi Coal Mine easily leads to severe deformation of the retracement channel and the appearance of the mine pressure during the retreat severely affects the stability of the roadway. In order to solve the above problems, a roadway surrounding rock control technology is proposed and tested. The bidirectional energy-concentrated tensile blasting technology is used to perform directional cutting to cut off the stress propagation path. Firstly, the deformation mechanism of the roof is analyzed by establishing the deformation mechanical model of the roof of the retracement channel. Then, according to the geological conditions of working face 3314 and theoretical calculation, the key parameters of roof cutting and pressure releasing of retracement channel are determined, and through the numerical analysis of its cutting effect, the length of cutting seam is 11.5m, and the cutting angle is 10°. Finally, a field test is carried out on the retracement channel of 3314 working face to verify the effect of roof cutting. The results show that the deformation of the retracement channel and the main roadway is very small. In the process of connecting the working face and the retracement channel, the maximum roof to floor convergence is 141mm, and the two sides convergence is 79mm. After the hydraulic support was retracted, the maximum roof to floor convergence of the surrounding rock is 37 mm, and the two sides convergence is 33mm. The roof cutting and pressure releasing of the retracement channel ensures the safe evacuation of the equipment and the stability of the main roadway. The cutting effect is obvious for the release of pressure, which is of great significance to engineering practice.

The purpose of this paper is to solve the problem that deep and close-distance cavern and roadway group were easily affected by the adjacent chamber or roadway excavation disturbance and low stability and significant deformation of surrounding rock occurred. The stability and control technology of surrounding rock in the main shaft and auxiliary shaft system has been analyzed by the adjacent chamber and roadway group of −850 m level in Qujiang Mine, China, as an engineering background. Firstly, the numerical calculation of the excavation chamber was, respectively, carried out in different ways with the propagation theory of the excavation disturbance wave. The results show that the interaction of adjacent chamber excavation was more intense. When excavated at the same time, there is a large increase in the movement of the sides and the roof-floor of the chamber and roadway. Then, the mechanism of interaction between low-high stress and excavation disturbance was considered, the corresponding control principles were provided, and a set of critical technologies and equipment were designed according to the deformation characteristics of the large deformation soft surrounding rock. Finally, the comprehensive control method was put forward with the water pump house as an example, that is, anchor, metal net, grouting, combined anchor cable and large-diameter anchor cable. And the related support parameters were determined by the internal damage of the surrounding rock chamber. The numerical simulation results show that the surrounding rock deformation of the chamber and roadway reduced with the revised support program, which the expansion of the rock mass loose circle prevented effectively. The site test shows that the convergence rate of surrounding rock with the improved support was less than 0.2 mm/d, and the rock deformation of chamber and roadway suppressed significantly.

Based on the special geological conditions of a tunnel in Qingyuan section of Huizhou-Zhanzhou Expressway, FLAC3d numerical simulation software is used to simulate the rheological properties and instability of surrounding rock in large-section fully weathered sandstone section, and the stability and loss of surrounding rock are analyzed. The deformation of the dome and the face at steady state is analyzed. It is found that: 1) when the surrounding rock is in a stable state, the deformation curve of the dome is smooth. When the surrounding rock of the face is unstable, the front of the face appears ahead. Deformation should be first strengthened on the surrounding rock in front of the face. 2) The arched foot is an important part of the instability of the surrounding rock. In order to prevent the expansion of the collapsed part, the arched part should be reinforced. 3) In order to obtain the limit state of surrounding rock stability, the strength of surrounding rock is reduced, and the strength reduction coefficient corresponding to the displacement sudden point is taken as the safety factor of rock stability around the hole, and the stability safety coefficients of surrounding rock of each construction step are greater than 1.2. 4) The dynamic standard values of deformation control in the whole construction stage are obtained by analyzing the deformation curves of each data monitoring point with time in the corresponding time period of each construction step.

High-efficiency maintenance and control of the deep coal roadway surrounding rock stability is a reliable guarantee for sustainable development of a coal mine. However, it is difficult to control the stability of a roadway that locates near a roadway with large deformation. With return air roadway 21201 (RAR 21201) in Hulusu coal mine as the research background, in situ investigation, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and engineering practice were carried out to study pressure relief effect on the surrounding rock after the severe deformation of the roadway. Besides, the feasibility of excavating a new roadway near this damaged one by means of pressure relief effect is also discussed. Results showed that after the strong mining roadway suffered huge loose deformation, the space inside shrank so violently that surrounding rock released high stress to a large extent, which formed certain pressure relief effect on the rock. Through excavating a new roadway near this deformed one, the new roadway could obtain a relative low stress environment with the help of the pressure relief effect, which is beneficial for maintenance and control of itself. Equal row spacing double-bearing ring support technology is proposed and carried out. Engineering practice indicates that the new excavated roadway escaped from possible separation fracture in the roof anchoring range, and the surrounding rock deformation of the new roadway is well controlled, which verifies the pressure relief effect mentioned. This paper provides a reference for scientific mining under the condition of deep buried and high stress mining in western China.

The stability judgement of surrounding rock is one of the key jobs in tunnel engineering. Taking the Erlongdong fault bundle section of Guanjiao Tunnel as the background, the stability of surrounding rock during construction of soft rock tunnel was discussed preliminarily. Based on plastic strain catastrophe theory, and combining numerical results and in-situ data, the limit displacements for stability of surrounding rock were analyzed and obtained corresponding to the in-situ monitoring technology. It shows that the limit displacements obtained corresponds to engineering practice primarily. The plastic strain catastrophe theory under unloading condition provides new thought for ground stability of deep soft rock tunnel and can be good guidance and valuable reference to construction decision making and deformation managing of similar tunnels.

To deeply analyze the failure evolution of surrounding rock during excavation-induced unloading of the high-stress rock mass, a multistage failure model was established based on revealed failure patterns. The critical conditions for wing cracks were determined. The slab crack buckling analysis was carried out. The true-triaxial rockburst testing system was used for the miniature model test to study the fracturing evolution of surrounding rocks during excavation-induced unloading of the high-stress rock mass. The research results indicated that harder rock samples had higher compressive strength. Moreover, the smaller peak strains implied more obvious yield/plastic stages of harder rock samples with high confining pressures and softer rock samples with low confining pressures. V-shaped grooves appeared at the beginning of the surrounding rock’s failure while spalling and splitting occurred as the stress increased. Finally, the entire sample’s overall splitting failure was observed, and the borehole bottom bulged upward. The harder rock masses had fewer fractures and higher degrees of failure. There were obvious V-shaped grooves on both sides of the marble cave wall. The tensile failure occurred near the opening surface and shear failure at a far distance. The sandstone's overall failure was related to tensile cracking, and splitting failure occurred far away from the opening surface, which was similar to the in situ failure of surrounding rocks during excavation-induced unloading of the high-stress rock mass. The results obtained are instrumental in the construction safety control and prevention of underground engineering disasters.

There are series of problems faced by most of the coal mines in China, ranging from low-coal recovery rate and strained replacement of working faces to gas accumulation in the upper corner of coalfaces. Based on the gob-side entry retaining at the No. 18205 working face in a coal mine in Shanxi Province, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and engineering practice were comprehensively used to study the mechanical characteristics of the influence of the width of the filling body beside the roadway and the stability of surrounding rock in a high-gas-risk mine. The rational width of the filling body beside the roadway was determined, and a concrete roadway-side support with a headed reinforcement-integrated strengthening technique was proposed, which have been applied in engineering practice. The stability of the filling body beside the roadway is mainly influenced by the movement of the overlying rock strata, and the stability of the surrounding rock can be improved effectively by rationally determining the width of the filling body beside the roadway. When the width of the roadway-side filling body is 2.5 m, the surrounding rock convergence of the gob-side entry retaining is relatively small at only 5% of the convergence ratio. It has been shown that the figure for roof separation is relatively low, and strata behaviors are relatively alleviated and gas density do not exceed the limit, which are the best results of gob-side entry retaining. The results of this research can provide theoretical guidance for excavation of coal mines with similar geological conditions and have some referential significance to safety and efficient production in coal mines.

To address the large deformation of the surrounding rock of deep gob-side entry retaining under high stress, lithological characteristics of the surrounding rock and failure model of support body and their evolutionary processes are analyzed through field investigation and theoretical analysis. Failure mechanisms of surrounding rock and the technology to control it are studied systematically. The results show that the causes of the large deformation of the surrounding rock are weak thick mudstones with softening property and water absorption behavior, as well as its fragmentation, dilatancy, and long-term creep during strong disturbance and highly centralized stress states. The cross-section shape of the roadway after deformation and failure of the surrounding rock is obviously asymmetric in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Since the original system supporting the surrounding rock is unable to completely bear the load, each part of the supporting system is destroyed one after the other. The failure sequences of the surrounding rock are as follows: (1) roadway roof fracture in the filling area, (2) filling body fracture under eccentric load, (3) rapid subsidence of the roadway roof, and (4) external crack drum and rib spalling at the solid coal side. Due to this failure sequence, the entire surrounding rock becomes unstable. A partitioned coupling support and a quaternity control technology to support the surrounding rock are proposed, in which the roof of the filling area plays a key role. The technology can improve the overall stability of gob-side entry retaining, prevent support structure instability caused by local failure of the surrounding rock, and ensure the safety and smoothness of roadways.
