In order to effectively analyze the dynamic relationship between education and economic development, an empirical study on the relationship between education and economic development based on the PVAR model is proposed. This article expounds on the principles, assumptions, identification, and estimation methods of the PVAR model, takes the education level and economic development level as the research object, explains the corresponding variables, and selects the indicators. Using Cobb–Douglas production function as a theoretical model, this article analyzes the theoretical relationship between the education level and economic development level. Based on this theoretical relationship, this article makes an empirical analysis on the relationship between education level and economic development level using the PVAR model. The results show that, on the whole, economic development can drive the development of education, but there are obvious regional differences in the impact of economic growth on the development of education. The impact of economic growth in the eastern region on education is significantly higher than that in the central and western regions. There is an interactive relationship between education level and economic development level, and there is a certain incubation period for education level and economic development level to play their role.

The empirical conclusions regarding the relationship between energy price and energy efficiency are relatively mixed. This paper systematically examines the influence of energy price on energy efficiency in China based on data from 30 provinces between 2003 and 2017, using linear and nonlinear effect analysis. We found that the impact of energy price on energy efficiency in China was positive in general. However, there existed heterogeneous effects of energy price on energy efficiency in various regions, and the effect differed with differences in energy efficiency levels based on the panel quantile regression analysis. Finally, the nonlinear effect analysis based on the panel threshold model indicated that the effect of energy price on energy efficiency increased with the rise of the environmental regulation level and economic growth rate, while it decreased with the ascent of the degree of energy price distortion and economic development level. In particular, when the value of a region’s economic development level and economic growth rate was within a certain range, the impact was not statistically significant. Overall, these findings contribute to a deeper understanding regarding the effect of energy price on energy efficiency in China.

Over the last few years, information and communication technology (ICT) has become a key catalyst for economic growth. The durability of this technology is demonstrated by the rapid proliferation of the Internet, mobile phones and cellular networks across the globe. However, among economic scholars, the question of exactly how the spread of ICT affects economic development and FDI, especially in ASEAN countries with differences in levels of income, remains unanswered. The aim of this study was essentially to explore the relationship between ICT dissemination, FDI and economic growth in ASEAN-8 countries. By using data from 2003 to 2017, the panel regression analysis was used to evaluate these relationships. The results showed that the dissemination of ICT and FDI are important and they have a positive effect on the ASEAN-8 countries’ economic development.

Summary: The paper the industrialization and the growth of gross domestic product is a research and empirical verification of Nicholas Kaldor laws on the impact of industrial production to GDP growth. Kaldor has formulated the principles of economic growth in the form of three laws that tend to identify key causes of economic growth. His first law asserts that the rate of economic growth is positively correlated with the rate of growth of its manufacturing sector. Industry as the most important force of economic development is widely analyzed in the literature on economic development (Hirschman (1961), Rosenstein-Rodan (1943), Thirwall (2013), Cornwall (1977)). The aim is to empirically test the Kaldor’s approach to growth and development in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is therefore designed a special data set consisting of two-dimensional tables and time series. Using regression analysis was quantified the relationship between the growth rate of gross domestic product and the growth of industrial production.

Theoretical background: The article explores the relationship between corruption and innovation in an economy and between corruption and economic growth. The multi-faceted and complex nature of corruption means that the impact of corruption on innovation and economic growth is unidirectional. There are arguments in the literature for both positive and negative effects of corruption on macroeconomic fiures. Most empirical research confirms the linear negative impact of corruption on economic growth. These results are the opposite of theoretical arguments that there may be both positive and negative consequences of corruption. Purpose of the article: The research aim is to analyse the theoretical aspects of the impact of corruption on selected macroeconomic variables. This goal was achieved by analysing the most signifiant arguments describing the relationships between chosen variables. Based on the literature analysis, research hypotheses were developed, and they were verifid in an empirical study. The results were analysed in the discussion section. Research methods: The study is based on a set of data on economically developed countries in Europe from 1996 to 2017. The empirical study was conducted using basic statistical measures – descriptive statistics and correlation coefficient, whereas econometric models were based on the GMM system (Generalized Method of Moments). Main findings: The results of this research show that the relationships between corruption and the measure of innovation, and corruption and economic growth are not linear. They take the form of a parabola. This means that the influence of corruption on innovation and economic growth is not the same for all levels of the corruption indicator. The relationship between corruption and economic growth is specific enough to show that a low level of corruption is economically justified from the point of view of empirical research. This is possible because corruption solves other economic problems, such as bureaucracy, which limits development. Corruption will support economic growth if the state does not work properly.

High population growth could be a serious barrier to regional economic development. In general, if productivity in each sector of the economy is very low, there will be a high unemployment level in that society. The purpose of this study is to analyze the partial and simultaneous influences of population, labor, unemployment, and poverty on economic growth. The type of data used is panel statistic data from 11 regencies and municipality in Sulawesi Tengah province of Indonesia during the 2011-2019 period with 99 observations. The regression model with fixed effect approach was used to analyze the data panel. The results reveal that labor and unemployment do not significantly affect economic growth, whereas population and poverty significantly affect economic growth in positive and negative ways, respectively. The partial results of the test imply that the increase in population must be coherently supported by the specialization of the workforce through an increase in the length of school each individual. These implications can be realized through the construction of educational infrastructure. Poverty reduction can be implemented through the improvement of the education level of the people. It is expected that good education will generate more new experts to increase industrial productivity, which in turn will increase the output

Abstract Correctly understanding and handling the relationship between economic development and environment protection is an eternal subject for human society. Based on the panel data of 31 provincial administrative units in China from 2000 to 2013, this study used Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Night-Time Light data to characterize the effect of ecological restoration practices and economic development respectively, and made an empirical study on the impact of ecological restoration on economic development by means of trend analysis, panel regression model and sub-sample analysis. The results showed that the spatial distribution of Night-Time Light was high in the east and low in the west, and the NDVI in the northwest of the Hu Line was generally low, while the southeast was higher. During the 14 years from 2000 to 2013, the overall vegetation coverage showed an upward trend, and the area with stable night lights accounted for the largest proportion. The influence of NDVI on Night-Time Light presented an inverted U-shaped relationship, which meant that the negative influence of the former on the latter was not an inevitable result but its periodic performance. In the process of economic development, there was an optimal value of vegetation coverage. The increase in vegetation coverage had a negative impact on the economic development of the eastern region, but it was beneficial to the central and western regions. In the future, the government should strengthen protection and restoration of ecosystem, promote high-level protection of environment and high-quality development with efficient environmental and economic policies, and differentiate the relationship between development and ecology in the eastern, central and western regions.

The present study aims to investigate the relationship between corruption and economic growth by taking the driving force of education into account. A significant contribution of the education level to the reduction process of corruption is expected to occur. For this reason, the number of those who are convicted of corruption offenses depending on their educational status for Turkey are to be taken into account, whereas the effect of education being a separate variable on growth and corruption will not be considered. In this regard, Vector Error Correction (VECM) model will be used as a method for the years between 1980-2011 and the relationship between corruption and economic growth will be analyzed. The contribution of the study to the literature is to reveal the impact of those who cause corruption depending on their education level on growth by undertaking the education levels separately. According to the empirical findings, considering corruption convicts who are literate but not graduated from a school and those having graduated from primary and secondary education, it was observed that corruption affects growth in a negative way. In contrast, given the corruption crimes which were committed by the graduates of both high school and vocational school at high school level and higher education, it was determined that there is a positive relationship between corruption and economic growth.

Finance contributes to poverty alleviation through economic growth, and the development of green finance is related to the sustainable development of the world economy and environment. Green finance not only helps promote sustainable economic development but also helps reduce poverty. Based on the analysis of related theories about green finance and poverty alleviation, this paper selects 18 indicators from three dimensions of economic development, financial development, and social environmental development and uses the improved entropy method to measure the green finance development index of China’s 25 provinces and municipalities from 2004 to 2017. The results show that the development level of green finance in China’s 25 provinces and municipalities is quite different. On the basis of the above analysis, make an empirical analysis of the impact of the green finance development index on poverty alleviation using multiple regression analysis and static panel and dynamic panel estimation methods. The research results show that there is a significant positive correlation between green finance and poverty alleviation; the higher the level of green finance development, the more conducive the poverty alleviation. So, this paper suggests that poverty can be better alleviated by improving the level of green finance development, financial asset level, and economic development level.

This paper investigates the impact of governance quality on economic growth in China. After developing a theoretical framework for the effect of governance quality on local economic growth, this article studies the panel data in provincial regions over the period 2001–2015 by constructing a new comprehensive index of provincial governance, and checks the robustness of the empirical findings from four aspects. The results show that governance quality has a positive effect on economic growth, due to good governance strengthening the “helping hand” or weakening the “grabbing hand” of power. Governance quality presents diminishing marginal returns, which means that the high-speed economic growth effect becomes less and less, while the high-quality economic development effect becomes more and more. Higher governance quality could bring a high-speed economic growth effect in the western region, while higher governance quality could bring a high-quality economic development effect in the eastern region. Compared with fixed-asset investment, human capital has played a more important role in economic growth. In order to promote the sustainable development of China’s economy, policy makers should improve local governance quality, strengthen the capacity of independent innovation, and promote the accumulation of high-quality human capital.

Tourism economic development is increasingly dependent on resources and environment. Exploring the relationship between tourism economic development and ecological-environmental (eco-environmental) stress is of great significance to promote the high-quality growth of tourism and the sustainable and coordinated development of ecological environment. By constructing a tourism economic development index and an eco-environmental stress index, this study analyzes the temporal and spatial evolution of tourism economic development and eco-environmental stress from 2009 to 2018 in China. It uses a decoupling model to evaluate the relationship between tourism economic development and ecological-environmental stress, and analyzes the reasons for the changes of decoupling relationship. The results show that: (1) During the study period, the development of tourism economy and the eco-environmental stress present a certain time-space effect characteristics. The stress index of China’s tourism economic development and ecological environment showed a fluctuating trend of first decreasing and then increasing, with obvious spatial hierarchical differences and weak agglomeration characteristics, and prominent regional imbalances. The tourism economic development level in the eastern region was higher than that in the central and western regions, while the ecological environment stress in the central region was greater than that in the eastern and western regions. (2) The relationship between tourism economic development and ecological environmental stress of China’s provinces has experienced eight states: Expansive negative decoupling, strong negative decoupling, weak negative decoupling, recessive coupling, expansive coupling, strong decoupling, weak decoupling, and recessive decoupling. During the study period, the state of optimal strong decoupling tends to weaken. Under the constraints of local policy orientation and regional economic development level, the overall decoupling optimization could not be achieved spatially. The decoupling state was always in an unsustainable non-optimal stage. (3) The reasons for the differential changes in the decoupling index between tourism economic development and ecological environmental stress in Chinese provinces come from investment-driven, resource-driven, innovation-driven, and environmental compliance push. This study can provide practical reference for promoting the high-quality development of tourism and the sustainable development of ecological environment.
