The analysis of the bearing characteristics and deformation mechanism of composite foundation reinforced with geogrid-encased stone columns is presented in order to obtain its settlement calculation method. The settlement of composite foundation is divided into three sections which are the reinforced section, unreinforced section, and underlying stratum. Based on Hooke’s law of space problem and the thoughts of the layer-wise summation method, the relative slip displacement between pile and soil of reinforced section without plastic zone is analyzed. The settlement of reinforced section is calculated by the layered iteration method based on the pile element model. The compatibility of vertical and radial deformations of unreinforced section is analyzed based on the pile-soil element model. The settlement of underlying stratum is still calculated by the layer-wise summation method. Finally, two engineering examples are analyzed and the results show that the settlement calculated by the presented method is close to the measured one. The method overcomes the defect that the calculated results by the other existing methods are more dangerous and it is more feasible and can be applied in engineering practice.

Settlement calculation of composite foundation is a hot field in geotechnical engineering research . In the paper with an engineering example, useing the equivalent natural settlement calculation methods and weighted modulus settlement calculation methods to calculate the settlement of composite foundations combined by CFG pile and concrete ramming enlarge pile, which compared with the practical measurement result . The results show that the errors of calculated value of the equivalent natural settlement calculation method were permitted and suitable for calculating composite foundation settlement.

On the basis of rigid pile composite foundation mechanism, This paper makes assumptions and establishes settlement calculation models, then applies shear displacement method to solve interaction flexibility coefficient of the pile-soil system and raises a rigid pile settlement calculation method, considering the effect of cushion.By calculating a certain experiment, it was found that theoretical and measured values of the relative error is smaller ,which can provide a reference for settlement calculation of rigid pile composite foundation in engineering.

The settlement calculation of postgrouting piles is complex and depends on the calculation method and parameters. Static load tests were conducted to compare the settlement characteristics of nongrouting and postgrouting piles, and three vital parameters in the layer-wise summation method were revised to predict the settlement of postgrouting piles. The elastic compression coefficient was deduced based on the Mindlin–Geddes method by considering the influence of the change in the pile side resistance distribution and end resistance ratio on the elastic compression after grouting. The relationship between the compression modulus and soil gravity stress and cone penetration resistance were established, respectively, using experimental data. The optimum value of the settlement empirical coefficient was determined using regional data. Finally, we used the postgrouting pile of the Wuqi–Dingbian expressway as a practical example. The results obtained from the layer-wise summation method after parametric optimization were close to the measured values. The results of this study provide reference data and guidance for the settlement calculation of postgrouting piles in this area.

Based on ABAQUS finite element analysis software simulation, the finite element model for dynamic analysis of rigid pile composite foundation and superstructure interaction system is established, which selects the two kinds of models, by simulating the soil dynamic constitutive model, selecting appropriate artificial boundary.The influence of rigid pile composite foundation on balance and imbalance of varying rigidity is analyzed under seismic loads. The result shows that the maximum bending moment and the horizontal displacement of the long pile is much greater than that of the short pile under seismic loads, the long pile of bending moment is larger in the position of stiffness change. By constrast, under the same economic condition, the aseismic performance of of rigid pile composite foundation on balance of varying rigidity is better than that of rigid pile composite foundation on imbalance of varying rigidity.

The composite foundation fully takes the carrying capacity of pile and soil into account, which decreases the settlement of oil storage tank foundation and differential settlement of oil storage tank bottom apparently. Analyzing the changes of stress and settlement under different conditions and optimizing the parameters of pile have important significance in engineering practice. In this paper, with an actual project of oil storage tank for background, basing on the Drucker-Prager yield criterion, the FEM model of composite foundation has been carried out by using ANSYS procedure. And with simulating the status of composite foundation under the working load, the project properties of composite foundation are investigated. Further more, analysis on the impacts of different pile parameters on stress and settlement of composite foundation have been carried out. In the end, the optimization scheme of composite foundation design has been proposed.

This paper analyzes the causes of larger differences of final settlement calculated value of cement fly-ash gravel pile (CFG pile) composite foundation of Baotou with actual observed result of it. On the basis of analysis on a number of practical engineering data of Baotou, we modify the settlement formula of the CFG pile composite foundation and gain the modified coefficient applied to the settlement calculation of the CFG pile composite foundation of Baotou. The modified formula and coefficient proposed in this paper have a positive effect on the accurate settlement calculation of puting forward a more accurate correction formula and coefficient of the calculation of the CFG pile composite foundation of Baotou.

There is a common problem during kill a well, which is how to quickly and accurately control the surface casing pressure according to the requirements for killing a well. A step-by-step exploration process is employed on operation sites. Continuously adjusting throttle valve to acquire surface casing pressure may lead to failure of kill operation because of its long time and low control accuracy. Obviously, if the calculation problems of throttling drawdown can be resolved,the relationship between drawdown and throttle valve opening can be found and the course of explorating can be converted into a straight course.Then the success rate of killing well can be improved. More importantly, this can make automatic controll of surface casing pressure possible. The paper built the calculation method of throttling pressure drop by theoretical analysis and verified the calculation method by adopting it into field test. The result has showed that the calculation method of throttling pressure drop coincides with experimental results and it can be used in engineering practice.
