Severe weather and long-term driving of vehicles lead to various cracks on asphalt pavement. If these cracks cannot be found and repaired in time, it will have a negative impact on the safe driving of vehicles. Traditional artificial detection has some problems, such as low efficiency and missing detection. The detection model based on machine learning needs artificial design of pavement crack characteristics. According to the pavement distress identification manual proposed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), these categories have three different types of cracks, such as fatigue, longitudinal crack, and transverse cracks. In the face of many types of pavement cracks, it is difficult to design a general feature extraction model to extract pavement crack features, which leads to the poor effect of the automatic detection model based on machine learning. Object detection based on the deep learning model has achieved good results in many fields. As a result, those models have become possible for pavement crack detection. This paper discusses the latest YOLOv5 series detection model for pavement crack detection and is to find out an effective training and detection method. Firstly, the 3001 asphalt crack pavement images with the original size of 2976 × 3978 pixels are collected using a digital camera and are randomly divided into three types according to the severity levels of low, medium, and high. Then, for the dataset of crack pavement, YOLOv5 series models are used for training and testing. The experimental results show that the detection accuracy of the YOLOv5l model is the highest, reaching 88.1%, and the detection time of the YOLOv5s model is the shortest, only 11.1 ms for each image.

Pavement crack detection is essential for safe driving. The traditional manual crack detection method is highly subjective and time-consuming. Hence, an automatic pavement crack detection system is needed to facilitate this progress. However, this is still a challenging task due to the complex topology and large noise interference of crack images. Recently, although deep learning-based technologies have achieved breakthrough progress in crack detection, there are still some challenges, such as large parameters and low detection efficiency. Besides, most deep learning-based crack detection algorithms find it difficult to establish good balance between detection accuracy and detection speed. Inspired by the latest deep learning technology in the field of image processing, this paper proposes a novel crack detection algorithm based on the deep feature aggregation network with the spatial-channel squeeze & excitation (scSE) attention mechanism module, which calls CrackDFANet. Firstly, we cut the collected crack images into 512 × 512 pixel image blocks to establish a crack dataset. Then through iterative optimization on the training and validation sets, we obtained a crack detection model with good robustness. Finally, the CrackDFANet model verified on a total of 3516 images in five datasets with different sizes and containing different noise interferences. Experimental results show that the trained CrackDFANet has strong anti-interference ability, and has better robustness and generalization ability under the interference of light interference, parking line, water stains, plant disturbance, oil stains, and shadow conditions. Furthermore, the CrackDFANet is found to be better than other state-of-the-art algorithms with more accurate detection effect and faster detection speed. Meanwhile, our algorithm model parameters and error rates are significantly reduced.

In the positioning process of a high-speed train, cumulative error may result in a reduction in the positioning accuracy. The assisted positioning technology based on kilometer posts can be used as an effective method to correct the cumulative error. However, the traditional detection method of kilometer posts is time-consuming and complex, which greatly affects the correction efficiency. Therefore, in this paper, a kilometer post detection model based on deep learning is proposed. Firstly, the Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (DCGAN) algorithm is introduced to construct an effective kilometer post data set. This greatly reduces the cost of real data acquisition and provides a prerequisite for the construction of the detection model. Then, by using the existing optimization as a reference and further simplifying the design of the Single Shot multibox Detector (SSD) model according to the specific application scenario of this paper, the kilometer post detection model based on an improved SSD algorithm is established. Finally, from the analysis of the experimental results, we know that the detection model established in this paper ensures both detection accuracy and efficiency. The accuracy of our model reached 98.92%, while the detection time was only 35.43 ms. Thus, our model realizes the rapid and accurate detection of kilometer posts and improves the assisted positioning technology based on kilometer posts by optimizing the detection method.

The Controller Area Network (CAN) bus works as an important protocol in the real-time In-Vehicle Network (IVN) systems for its simple, suitable, and robust architecture. The risk of IVN devices has still been insecure and vulnerable due to the complex data-intensive architectures which greatly increase the accessibility to unauthorized networks and the possibility of various types of cyberattacks. Therefore, the detection of cyberattacks in IVN devices has become a growing interest. With the rapid development of IVNs and evolving threat types, the traditional machine learning-based IDS has to update to cope with the security requirements of the current environment. Nowadays, the progression of deep learning, deep transfer learning, and its impactful outcome in several areas has guided as an effective solution for network intrusion detection. This manuscript proposes a deep transfer learning-based IDS model for IVN along with improved performance in comparison to several other existing models. The unique contributions include effective attribute selection which is best suited to identify malicious CAN messages and accurately detect the normal and abnormal activities, designing a deep transfer learning-based LeNet model, and evaluating considering real-world data. To this end, an extensive experimental performance evaluation has been conducted. The architecture along with empirical analyses shows that the proposed IDS greatly improves the detection accuracy over the mainstream machine learning, deep learning, and benchmark deep transfer learning models and has demonstrated better performance for real-time IVN security.

Health monitoring of concrete including, detecting defects such as cracking, spalling on fire affected concrete structures plays a vital role in the maintenance of reinforced cement concrete structures. However, this process mostly uses human inspection and relies on subjective knowledge of the inspectors. To overcome this limitation, a deep learning based automatic crack detection method is proposed. Deep learning is a vibrant strategy under computer vision field. The proposed method consists of U-Net architecture with an encoder and decoder framework. It performs pixel wise classification to detect the thermal cracks accurately. Binary Cross Entropy (BCA) based loss function is selected as the evaluation function. Trained U-Net is capable of detecting major thermal cracks and minor thermal cracks under various heating durations. The proposed, U-Net crack detection is a novel method which can be used to detect the thermal cracks developed on fire exposed concrete structures. The proposed method is compared with the other state-of-the-art methods and found to be accurate with 78.12% Intersection over Union (IoU).

X.509 certificates play an important role in encrypting the transmission of data on both sides under HTTPS. With the popularization of X.509 certificates, more and more criminals leverage certificates to prevent their communications from being exposed by malicious traffic analysis tools. Phishing sites and malware are good examples. Those X.509 certificates found in phishing sites or malware are called malicious X.509 certificates. This paper applies different machine learning models, including classical machine learning models, ensemble learning models, and deep learning models, to distinguish between malicious certificates and benign certificates with Verification for Extraction (VFE). The VFE is a system we design and implement for obtaining plentiful characteristics of certificates. The result shows that ensemble learning models are the most stable and efficient models with an average accuracy of 95.9%, which outperforms many previous works. In addition, we obtain an SVM-based detection model with an accuracy of 98.2%, which is the highest accuracy. The outcome indicates the VFE is capable of capturing essential and crucial characteristics of malicious X.509 certificates.

Cracks are one of the main distresses that occur on concrete surfaces. Traditional methods for detecting cracks based on two-dimensional (2D) images can be hampered by stains, shadows, and other artifacts, while various three-dimensional (3D) crack-detection techniques, using point clouds, are less affected in this regard but are limited by the measurement accuracy of the 3D laser scanner. In this study, we propose an automatic crack-detection method that fuses 3D point clouds and 2D images based on an improved Otsu algorithm, which consists of the following four major procedures. First, a high-precision registration of a depth image projected from 3D point clouds and 2D images is performed. Second, pixel-level image fusion is performed, which fuses the depth and gray information. Third, a rough crack image is obtained from the fusion image using the improved Otsu method. Finally, the connected domain labeling and morphological methods are used to finely extract the cracks. Experimentally, the proposed method was tested at multiple scales and with various types of concrete crack. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve an average precision of 89.0%, recall of 84.8%, and F1 score of 86.7%, performing significantly better than the single image (average F1 score of 67.6%) and single point cloud (average F1 score of 76.0%) methods. Accordingly, the proposed method has high detection accuracy and universality, indicating its wide potential application as an automatic method for concrete-crack detection.

Abstract In order to accurately detect the abnormal looseness of strapping in the process of steel coil hoisting, an accurate detection method of strapping abnormality based on CCD structured light active imaging is proposed. Firstly, a maximum entropy laser stripe automatic segmentation model integrating multi-scale saliency features is constructed. With the help of saliency detection model, the purpose is to reduce the interference of the environment to the laser stripe and highlight the distinguishability between the stripe and the background. Then, the maximum entropy is used to segment the fused saliency features and accurately extract the stripe contour. Finally, the stripe normal field is obtained by calculating the stripe gradient vector, the stripe center line is extracted based on the stripe distribution normal direction, and the abnormal strapping is recognized online according to the stripe center. Experiments show that the proposed method is effective in terms of detection accuracy and time efficiency, and has certain engineering application value.

Abstract. Automatic building change detection has become a topical issue owing to its wide range of applications, such as updating building maps. However, accurate building change detection remains challenging, particularly in urban areas. Thus far, there has been limited research on the use of the outdated building map (the building map before the update, referred to herein as the old-map) to increase the accuracy of building change detection. This paper presents a novel deep-learning-based method for building change detection using bitemporal aerial images containing RGB bands, bitemporal digital surface models (DSMs), and an old-map. The aerial images have two types of spatial resolutions, 12.5 cm or 16 cm, and the cell size of the DSMs is 50 cm × 50 cm. The bitemporal aerial images, the height variations calculated using the differences between the bitemporal DSMs, and the old-map were fed into a network architecture to build an automatic building change detection model. The performance of the model was quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated for an urban area that covered approximately 10 km2 and contained over 21,000 buildings. The results indicate that it can detect the building changes with optimum accuracy as compared to other methods that use inputs such as i) bitemporal aerial images only, ii) bitemporal aerial images and bitemporal DSMs, and iii) bitemporal aerial images and an old-map. The proposed method achieved recall rates of 89.3%, 88.8%, and 99.5% for new, demolished, and other buildings, respectively. The results also demonstrate that the old-map is an effective data source for increasing building change detection accuracy.
