This study is to investigate the relationship of endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1 (ERAP1) gene polymorphisms with psoriasis. Five databases of PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched for potential studies until 25 December 2019. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the quality of included studies. Meta-analysis was performed with PRISMA. A total of 9 case-control studies including 4858 psoriasis cases and 10,542 healthy controls were included. Three loci of ERAP1 gene polymorphisms (rs26653, rs30187, and rs27524) were evaluated in this meta-analysis. There was no significant association between rs26653 polymorphism and risk of psoriasis (C vs. G, OR = 1.01 , 95% CI: 0.80-1.28, P = 0.93 ). However, there was a significant association between rs30187 polymorphisms and psoriasis susceptibility (T vs. C, OR = 1.23 , 95% CI: 1.15-1.32, P < 0.00001 ) and a significant association between rs27524 polymorphisms and psoriasis susceptibility (A vs. G, OR = 1.17 , 95% CI: 1.09-1.25, P < 0.00001 ). For there were insufficient data of rs27044, rs151823, rs2248374, and rs2910686, we only conducted a systematic review for them. The rs30187 (C/T) and rs27524 (G/A) polymorphisms of ERAP1 are associated with increased risk of psoriasis. However, no significant association is observed between rs26653 (G/C) polymorphism and risk of psoriasis.

Abstract Background: The engulfment and cell motility 1 (ELMO1) and interleukin-8 (IL8) gene polymorphisms have been previously implicated in diabetic nephropathy (DN) susceptibility. However, the results are inconsistent. We aimed to examine this issue by systematic meta-analysis. Methods: An electronic search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Database to identify all the eligible studies. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to investigate the associations. All statistical analyses were performed by STATA 12.0. Results: Of the 11 studies included, 9 studies were performed to detect EMLO1 rs741301 polymorphism; 5 studies were used to examine IL-8 rs4073 polymorphism. The results revealed no significant association between EMLO1 rs741301 polymorphism and DN risk. While, stratified analysis by ethnicity indicated that EMLO1 rs741301 polymorphism was associated with an increased risk of DN risk among Asians (GG vs. GA +AA: OR= 1.840, 95% CI= 1.338-2.529, P= 0.000; GG vs. AA: OR= 1.834, 95% CI= 1.309-2.569, P= 0.000; G vs. A: OR= 1.222, 95% CI= 1.053-1.417, P= 0.008). As for IL-8 rs4073 polymorphism, a positive correlation between this gene polymorphism and DN risk was found (AA+AT vs. TT: OR= 1.450, 95% CI= 1.166-1.802, P= 0.001; AT vs. TT: OR= 1.420, 95% CI= 1.129-1.786, P= 0.003; AA vs. TT: OR= 1.553, 95% CI= 1.094-2.203, P= 0.014; A vs. T: OR= 1.291, 95% CI= 1.102-1.512, P= 0.002). After stratified population by ethnicity, the results in Caucasians remained significant (AA+AT vs. TT: OR= 1.770, 95% CI= 1.354-2.315, P= 0.000; AT vs. TT: OR= 1.733, 95% CI= 1.304-2.302, P= 0.000; AA vs. TT: OR= 1.939, 95% CI= 1.263-2.976, P= 0.002; A vs. T: OR= 1.494, 95% CI= 1.227-1.820, P= 0.000). Conclusions: This meta-analysis indicates that the GG genotype of EMLO1 rs741301 polymorphism and the A allele of IL-8 rs4073 polymorphism might be risk factors for the development of DN.

Abstract Some studies have suggested that the Toll-like receptor 9 polymorphism (TLR9 rs352140) is closely related to the risk of bacterial meningitis (BM), but this is subject to controversy. This study set out to estimate whether the TLR9 rs352140 polymorphism confers an increased risk of BM. Relevant literature databases were searched including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) up to August 2020. Seven case-control studies from four publications were enrolled in the present meta-analysis. Odds ratios (OR) and confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated to estimate associations between BM risk and the target polymorphism. Significant associations identified were allele contrast (A vs. G: OR 0.66, 95% CI 0.59–0.75, P = 0.000), homozygote comparison (AA vs. AG/GG: OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.49–0.78, P = 0.000), heterozygote comparison (A vs. G: OR 0.74, 95% CI 0.61–0.91, P = 0.005), recessive genetic model (AA vs. AG/GG: OR 0.78, 95% CI 0.65–0.93, P = 0.006) and dominant genetic model (AA vs. AG/GG: OR 0.70, 95% CI 0.57–0.85, P = 0.000). The findings indicate that, in contrast to some studies, the TLR9 rs352140 polymorphism is associated with a decreased risk for BM.

The results demonstrated that rs610604 in TNFAIP3 polymorphism was significantly associated with psoriasis risk using random effect model (G vs. T, OR = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.09–1.31, P = 0.0002), and a significant association between rs17728338 in TNIP1 polymorphism and psoriasis vulnerability using fixed effect model (A vs. G, OR = 1.69, 95% CI:1.58–1.80, P < 0.00001).Conclusions This meta-analysis indicated that rs610604 in TNFAIP3 and rs17728338 in TNIP1 gene polymorphisms were associated with psoriasis susceptibility.

Abstract Objectives We performed an updated meta-analysis to clarify the relationship between the CEBPE rs2239633 polymorphism and the childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (CALL) susceptibility. Methods All the case-control studies were updated on October 5, 2020, through Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) electronic database. The heterogeneity in the study was tested by the Q test and I2, and then the random ratio or fixed effect was utilized to merge the odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). We also performed sensitivity analysis to estimate the impact of individual studies on aggregate estimates. Publication bias was investigated by using funnel plot and Egger’s regression test. All statistical analyses were performed using Stata 12.0. Results A total of 20 case-control studies were selected, including 7014 patients and 16,428 controls. There was no association of CEBPE rs2239633 polymorphism with CALL (CC vs CT + TT: OR = 1.08, 95% CI = 0.94–1.26; CC + CT vs TT: OR = 1.10, 95% CI = 0.94–1.30; C vs T: OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 0.92–1.13). In the subgroup analysis by ethnicity, there is no significant association of this polymorphism and CALL risks among Asian and Caucasian populations in the three genetic models (CC vs CT + TT, CC + CT vs TT, and C vs T). Conclusion This meta-analysis found no significant association between the CEBPE rs2239633 polymorphism and susceptibility to CALL.

Objectives: Previous case-control studies have focused on the relationship between ALDH2 gene polymorphism and late-onset Alzheimer's Disease (LOAD), but no definite unified conclusion has been reached. Therefore, the correlation between ALDH2 Glu504Lys polymorphism and LOAD remains controversial. To analyze the correlation between ALDH2 polymorphism and the risk of LOAD, we implemented this up-to-date meta-analysis to assess the probable association. Methods: Studies were searched through China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals, China Biology Medicine, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Clinical- Trials.gov, Embase, and MEDLINE from January 1, 1994 to December 31, 2018, without any restrictions on language and ethnicity. Results: Five studies of 1057 LOAD patients and 1136 healthy controls met our criteria for the analysis. Statistically, the ALDH2 GA/AA genotype was not linked with raising LOAD risk (odds ratio (OR) = 1.48, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.96-2.28, p = 0.07). In subgroup analysis, the phenomenon that men with ALDH2*2 had higher risk for LOAD (OR = 1.72, 95%CI = 1.10-2.67, p = 0.02) was observed. Conclusions: This study comprehends only five existing case-control studies and the result is negative. The positive trend might appear when the sample size is enlarged. In the future, more large-scale casecontrol or cohort studies should be done to enhance the association between ALDH2 polymorphism and AD or other neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract Background The numbers of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and COVID-19 related deaths are still increasing, so it is very important to determine the risk factors of COVID-19. Dyslipidemia is a common complication in patients with COVID-19, but the association of dyslipidemia with the severity and mortality of COVID-19 is still unclear. The aim of this study is to analyze the potential association of dyslipidemia with the severity and mortality of COVID-19. Methods We searched the PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases for all relevant studies up to August 24, 2020. All the articles published were retrieved without language restriction. All analysis was performed using Stata 13.1 software and Mantel–Haenszel formula with fixed effects models was used to compare the differences between studies. The Newcastle Ottawa scale was used to assess the quality of the included studies. Results Twenty-eight studies involving 12,995 COVID-19 patients were included in the meta-analysis, which was consisted of 26 cohort studies and 2 case–control studies. Dyslipidemia was associated with the severity of COVID-19 (odds ratio [OR] = 1.27, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.11–1.44, P = 0.038, I2 = 39.8%). Further, patients with dyslipidemia had a 2.13-fold increased risk of death compared to patients without dyslipidemia (95% CI 1.84–2.47, P = 0.001, I2 = 66.4%). Conclusions The results proved that dyslipidemia is associated with increased severity and mortality of COVID-19. Therefore, we should monitor blood lipids and administer active treatments in COVID-19 patients with dyslipidemia to reduce the severity and mortality.

Objective This meta-analysis aimed to determine the associations between the rs3761547, rs3761548, and rs3761549 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the forkhead box P3 ( FOXP3) gene and susceptibility to Graves’ disease (GD). Methods Case–control studies with information on the associations between the rs3761547, rs3761548, and rs3761549 FOXP3 SNPs and GD published before 01 May 2020 were identified in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. Data from the studies were analyzed using RevMan version 5.3. Results Seven independent case–control studies including 4051 GD patients and 4569 controls were included in the meta-analysis. The overall pooled analysis indicated that FOXP3/rs3761548 and FOXP3/rs3761549 polymorphisms were significantly associated with GD susceptibility (rs3761548: A vs. C, odds ratio [OR] = 1.32, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.05–1.67; rs3761549: TT vs. CC, OR = 1.98, 95%CI 1.49–2.65; (TT + TC) vs. CC, OR = 1.44, 95%CI 1.11–1.88). In contrast, the FOXP3/rs3761547 polymorphism was not associated with GD susceptibility. Subgroup analysis according to ethnicity showed that rs3761548 was associated with GD in Asians but not in Caucasians, whereas rs3761549 was associated in both Asians and Caucasians. Conclusion This meta-analysis demonstrated that FOXP3/rs3761548 and FOXP3/rs3761549 SNPs were significantly associated with susceptibility to GD, at least in Asian populations.

To perform a meta-analysis of case-control studies that addressed the association between oral contraceptive pills (OC) use and breast cancer (BrCa), PubMED (MEDLINE), Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched to identify case-control studies of OC and BrCa published between 2009 and 2020. We used the DerSimonian–Laird method to compute pooled odds ratios (ORs) and confidence intervals (CIs), and the Mantel–Haenszel test to assess the association between OC use and cancer. Forty-two studies were identified that met the inclusion criteria and we included a total of 110,580 women (30,778 into the BrCa group and 79,802 into the control group, of which 15,722 and 38,334 were using OC, respectively). The conducted meta-analysis showed that the use of OC was associated with a significantly increased risk of BrCa in general, OR = 1.15, 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.31, p = 0.0358. Regarding other risk factors for BrCa, we found that increased risk was associated significantly with early menarche, nulliparous, non-breastfeeding, older age at first parity, postmenopause, obesity, smoking, and family history of BrCa. Despite our conclusion that birth control pills increase the cancer risk being supported by extensive previous studies and meta-analyzes, further confirmation is required.
