Four of the coordination compounds of the general formula, [M(DPPP)(APY)(H2O) Cl2].xH2O, where M = Ni(II), Cu(II), Mn(II), and Fe(II) and x = 0, 1, or 2 molecules of H2O, DPPP = 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane, and APY = 2-aminopyridine, have been prepared and characterized. The structure of the complexes has been confirmed by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and UV-Vis spectral data. Thermal analysis (thermogravimetry, derivative thermogravimetry, and differential thermal studies) has been used to study the thermal decomposition stages. Biological activity of all synthesized complexes was tested against five bacterial strains and three fungal strains. Bacteria and fungi strains are common contaminants of the environment in Saudi Arabia, some of which are frequently reported from contaminated water, soil, and food.

The synthesis of sodium 2-chlorobenzylidenepyruvate and its corresponding acid as well as binary, binary together with it's acid or hydroxo-2-chorobenzylidenepyruvate of aluminium (III), gallium (III) and indium (III), were isolated. Chemical analysis, thermogravimetry, derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG), simultaneous thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) and X-ray powder diffractometry have been employed to characterize and to study the thermal behaviour of these compounds. The results provided information concerning the stoichiometry, crystallinity, thermal stability and thermal decomposition.

The mixed ligand complexes involving Fe(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) ions, Schiff base 4 phenylpyrazal-5-one (L1) and L-lysine (Lys) were synthesized. The complexes were characterized on the basis of their elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, FT-IR, MS,1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectral studies. All the synthesized complexes were subjected to simultaneous thermogravimetric analysis to study their decomposition mechanism and thermal stability. The mixed ligand complexes were screened against some strains of bacteria and fungi to study their antimicrobial activity. The complexes were found to be non-electrolytes and possessed octahedral geometry. The results showed that the metal complexes possessed better antimicrobial activity than the free ligands.

In this article, we report the crystallization of struvite in sodium metasilicate gel by single diffusion gel growth technique. The obtained crystals have a very rich morphology displaying 18 faces. In this study, the habit and morphology of the obtained struvite crystals are analyzed. The crystals were examined and identified as pure struvite by single X-ray diffraction (XRD). The orthorhombic polar noncentrosymmetric space group Pmn21 was identified. The structure of the crystal was determined at a temperature of 90 K. Our research indicates a lack of polymorphism, resulting from the temperature lowering to 90 K, which has not been previously reported. The determined unit cell parameters are as follows a = 6.9650(2) Å, b = 6.1165(2) Å, c = 11.2056(3) Å. The structure of struvite is presented here with a residual factor R1 = 1.2% at 0.80 Å resolution. We also present thermoanalytical study of struvite using thermal analysis techniques such as thermogravimetry (TG), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA).

A new series of N-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-c]quinazoline-5-carboxamide derivatives were synthesized by condensation of [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-c]quinazoline-5-carboxylate derivatives with substituted benzothiazoles. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by FT-IR, MS and 1H NMR spectra. Designed triazoloquinazoline derivatives were docked with oxido-reductase enzyme (PDB Code 4h1j) and DNA gyrase enzyme (PDB Code 3g75). Based on high binding affinity score, the best compound were selected for synthesis and subjected to in vitro antioxidant and antibacterial activity. Compounds 7a and 7d were found to be most active compounds as antioxidant agent among this series when compared with ascorbic acid. Compounds 7a, 7d and 7f were found to be most active compounds as an antibacterial agents among this series when compared with ciprofloxacin against bacterial strains such as S. aureus (ATCC 25923), E. coli (ATCC 25922) and P. aeruginosa (ATCC 27853). Study revealed that the most active compounds after structural modifications can be exploited as lead molecules for other pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anticancer and antidepressant activities.

A new magnetic supported manganese-based coordination complex (Fe3O4@SiO2@CPTMS@MBOL@ Mn) was prepared in consecutive stages and characterized via various techniques (VSM, SEM, TEM, XRD, FT-IR, EDX, TG-DTA, and ICP). To evaluate its application, it was used for synthesis of divers Indazolophthalazinetriones in a simple procedure via the one-pot three-component condensation reaction of aldehydes, dimedone, and phthalhydrazide in ethanol under reflux conditions. The Mn catalyst can be recycled without any noticeable loss in catalytic activity. Additionally, the antibacterial properties of the nano-catalyst were studied against some bacterial strains.

Zn2SiO4:Eu3+, Dy3+ phosphors have been prepared through the sol-gel process. X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric and ddifferential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), FT-IR spectra and photoluminescence spectra were used to characterize the resulting phosphors. The results of XRD indicated that the phosphors crystallized completely at 1000oC. In Zn2SiO4:Eu3+,Dy3+ phosphors, the Eu3+ and Dy3+ show their characteristic red(613nm, 5D0-7F2), blue (481nm, 4F9/2–6H15/2) and yellow (577nm, 4F9/2–6H13/2) emissions.

A pyridine derivative 2-((E)-1-(2-hydrazinyl-4-methyl-6-phenyl-pyridine-3-carboyl)ethyl)pyridine-4- carbonitrile (CPHPC) ligand and its 3d-metal(II) complexes has been synthesized (where [M = Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II)]. The physico-chemical, analytical data, UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1H NMR and ESR spectrum methods were used to characterize all of the synthesized complexes. Spectral investigations of metal(II) complexes revealed that the metal ion is surrounded by an octahedral geometry. Low conductance values indicated that the metal(II) complexes behave as non-electrolyte. The cytotoxic activity on lung cancer cell lines and hepatic cancer cell lines A549 and HepG2, respectively, with the ligand and their metal complexes were tested with MTT assay. The ligand and its metal complexes were tested for diverse harmful bacterial strains using the agar well diffusion method on Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas desmolyticum, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella aerogenes, as well as Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.

Novel series of 4,6-disubstituted-1,3,5-triazines containing hydrazone derivatives were synthesized employing ultrasonic irradiation and conventional heating. The ultrasonication gave the target products in higher yields and purity in shorter reaction time compared with the conventional method. IR, NMR (H 1 and C 13), elemental analysis, and LC-MS confirmed the structures of the new products. The antimicrobial and antifungal activities were evaluated for all the prepared compounds against some selected Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. The results showed that only two compounds 7i (pyridine derivative) and 7k (4-chlorobenzaldehyde derivative) displayed biological activity against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, while the rest of the tested compounds did not display any antifungal activity.
