This work explored the diagnostic value of different subtypes of meningiomas under T2WI low signal based on analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the expression differences of Ki67, VEGF, and P73 in different subtypes were analyzed. 67 patients with meningioma confirmed surgically and pathologically in hospital were selected as the research subjects, whose pathological classification occurs with obvious low signal on T2WI. First, the age distribution of the subjects and the distribution of different subtypes were counted. Then, ANOVA was adopted to analyze the MRI imaging signs of patients with different subtypes of meningioma. Finally, the differences of Ki67, VEGF, and P73 proteins and mRNA expression levels in different subtypes were detected via immunohistochemical assay and qPCR. The results showed that the proportion of patients with transitional meningioma was the most, which was 43.28%, while the proportion of patients with meningeal melanoma was the least, which was 7.46%. In patients with transitional meningioma, the MRI images showed mixed signals in different layers. Fibrous MRI images showed hyalinosis and calcification of collagen fibers in the tumor, with low T2WI signal. Sand-shape MRI images showed double low signals. MRI images of meningeal melanoma showed high signal on T1-weighted Imaging (T1WI) and low signal on T2WI. The protein expression and mRNA levels of Ki67 and P73 in transitional meningioma were evidently higher in contrast to those in fibrous meningioma ( P < 0.05 ). The expression level of VEGF protein and mRNA in meningeal melanoma were notably higher in contrast to those in fibro meningioma ( P < 0.05 ). It was revealed that the MRI images of the four subtypes of meningiomas under ANOVA-based T2WI low signal were quite different, and the expressions of Ki67, P73, and VEGF in different subtypes had significant differences. This work provided a reference basis for the preoperative diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of meningiomas.

Abstract Aim The purpose of our study was to analyze the clinical and imaging features of uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS) and cervical carcinosarcoma (CCS), and to explore the diagnostic and staging accuracy of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. Methods 41 patients including 37 with UCS and 4 with CCS from July 2011 to September 2020 were enrolled in the study. Of the 37 UCS cases, 7 had CT images, 27 had MRI images, and 3 had both CT and MRI images. The Clinical data, CT or MRI imaging findings were analyzed. Diagnosis and staging accuracy of CT and MRI images were also analyzed. Results Carcinosarcoma usually occurs in postmenopausal women (40/41), with the typical clinical symptom being vaginal bleeding (33/41). The CA125 degree was significantly different between the two invasion depth groups (p = 0.011). Most uterine carcinosarcomas showed unclear boundaries, uneven density, low or equal signal on T1WI, high or mixed signal on T2WI, uneven high signal on diffusion-weighted image (DWI), and mild enhancement. The diagnostic accuracies of CT and MRI for carcinosarcoma were 0% and 3.33%, respectively. The diagnostic accuracy for malignant tumors on CT and MRI was 50% and 83.33%, respectively. Conclusions Carcinosarcoma lesions presented with huge mass filling in the cavity, and some presented with small polypoid lesions or endometrial thickening. Evaluation of lymph node metastasis is a significant challenge for imaging staging.

Findings in 34 patients with traumatic brachial plexus injury documented by surgical exploration and intra-operative somatosensory-evoked potentials were correlated with findings on myelography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine whether MRI can identify nerve root avulsion. The coronal and sagittal planes were not able to demonstrate avulsion of the individual nerve roots. The axial and axial oblique planes did provide useful information to determine which nerve root was avulsed in the upper plexus, although it was difficult to clearly delineate the lower cervical rootlets. The accuracy of MRI was 73% for C5 and 64% for C6 and that of myelograpby 63% for C5 and 64% for C6. Thus, the diagnostic accuracy of MRI for upper nerve roots was slightly superior to myelography. Although its primary diagnostic value is limited to the upper nerve roots whose avulsion is relatively difficult to diagnose by myelography, MRI can provide useful guidance in the waiting period prior to surgical exploration after brachial plexus injury.

✓ Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed on 12 patients with spinal arteriovenous malformations (AVM's). Six lesions were intramedullary, five were dural, and one was in a posterior extramedullary location. Serpentine filling defects similar to the classic myelographic findings were demonstrated within the high-signal cerebrospinal fluid on T2-weighted coronal scans. The intramedullary nidus was identified by MRI as an area of low-signal intensity within the cord in all six intramedullary AVM's. Neither the dural nor the posterior extramedullary lesions showed intramedullary components. It is concluded that MRI may noninvasively provide the initial diagnosis of a spinal AVM and distinguish intramedullary from dural and extramedullary lesions.

Introduction: We aimed to introduce the diagnostic value of diffusion-weighted (DWI) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for distinguishing benign and malignant renal cystic masses.Methods: Abdominal DWI-MRIs of patients with Bosniak categories 2F, 3, and 4 cystic renal masses were evaluated retrospectively. Cystic masses were assigned as benign or malignant according to histopathological or followup MRI findings and compared with apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values.Results: There were 30 patients (18 males and 12 females, mean age was 59.23 ± 12.08 years [range 38‒83 years]) with cystic renal masses (eight Bosniak category 2F, 12 Bosniak category 3, 10 Bosniak category 4). Among them, 14 cysts were diagnosed as benign and 16 as malignant by followup imaging or histopathological findings. For the malignant lesions, the mean ADC values were lower than for benign lesions (p=0.001). An ADC value of ≤2.28 x10-6 mm2/s or less had a sensitivity of 75% and a specificity of 92.86% for detecting malignancy.Conclusions: ADC can improve the diagnostic performance of MRI in the evaluation of complex renal cysts when used together with conventional MRI sequences.

Objective This study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), hysteroscopy, and laparoscopy to avoid unnecessary treatment when patients present with clinical manifestations that are close to those of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). Methods Three patients who were falsely diagnosed with presumed GTN and received needless chemotherapy in our hospital from July 2011 to March 2012 were studied. We also reviewed data of patients with similar clinical features who were diagnosed as having residual pregnancy in recent years. Clinical manifestations were evaluated. Results All three patients had persistently high serum β-human chorionic gonadotrophin levels and a mass with abundant blood supply in the uterus after termination of pregnancy. The patients were diagnosed with GTN and underwent chemotherapy. They responded poorly to chemotherapy and underwent surgery. The pathological diagnosis in all patients was residual pregnancy. In recent years, no patients were misdiagnosed because pelvic MRI, hysteroscopy, or laparoscopy was used when residual pregnancy could not be excluded. Conclusion Gynecologists should diagnose carefully when patients present with clinical manifestations that are close to those of GTN to avoid unnecessary treatment. MRI, hysteroscopy, and laparoscopy could be important examinations for excluding residual pregnancy.

Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are enabling more precise diagnosis and treatment planning in patients with diseases of the larynx. The aim of this article is to describe the role of these methods in assessment of the laringeal diseases and key local anatomic characteristics important for spread of the disease. CT and MRI have a valuable contribution to the staging of the tumors due to the possibility to show the relationship to the ventricular complex, involvement of the subumucosal spaces, defining craniocaudal and anterposterior extension, laringeal cartilage invasion, as well as regional lymph node metastases.

Ameloblastoma is an odontogenic tumor that shares clinical and imaging characteristics with other lesions of the jaws, such as odontogenic keratocyst, which makes the diagnosis difficult. However, in addition to radiographic and tomographic examinations, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has been increasingly used, contributing with relevant additional information about the differentiation between solid and liquid components of the lesion. This case report was conducted to present two variations of ameloblastoma and discuss the radiographic, tomographic and MRI contribution in the differential diagnosis between ameloblastoma and odontogenic keratocyst.The signal intensity in T1-weighted MRI revealed internal fluid content in both cases, which was important in the differential diagnosis with other intraosseous lesions such as odontogenic keratocysts. This is probably due to the presence of keratin that increases the viscosity of the content and also for an intermediate signal intensity signal in T2-weighted MRI. Therefore, MRI revealed important internal characteristics of the reported lesions, which was very useful in the establishment of the differential diagnosis with other lesions.

AbstractOrbital schwannomas are rare, presenting a rate of incidence between 1 and 5% of all orbital lesions. Their most common clinical symptoms are promoted by mass effect, such as orbital pain and proptosis. The best complementary exam is the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which shows low signal in T1, high signal in T2, and heterogeneous contrast enhancement. The treatment of choice is surgical, with adjuvant radiotherapy if complete resection is not possible. We report the case of a 24-year-old male patient with orbital pain and proptosis, without previous history of disease. The MRI showed a superior orbital lesion compatible with schwannoma, which was confirmed by biopsy after complete resection using a fronto-orbital approach.

We report a rare case of jugular foramen dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) with spinal venous drainage. A 48-year-old woman suffered from progressive weakness of lower extremities and incontinence of urine and feces for 14 days. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a tortuous posterior medullary vein at C2–T2 and ischemic signal at C2–C4 of the spinal cord. Brain MRI revealed an abnormal high signal near the left jugular foramen. Digital subtraction angiography of the spinal vascular was negative, while brain angiography showed a left jugular foramen DAVF with spinal perimedullary venous drainage. The patient recovered completely soon after endovascular embolization with Onyx-18. Diagnosis of a DAVF presenting with myelopathy is challenging. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for a favorable outcome.
