Rockfall is one of the most serious geological hazards in mountain regions. During the rescue situations after rockfall, the wheel loader, a vital type of modern engineering mechanism, plays an important role in relieving the obstruction of the catastrophic site. Increasing the reliability of the wheel loader during the rescue situation is quite important. This study aims to build a fault diagnosis model based on Bayesian network (BN) to diagnose the probability and path of the fault occurrence in the wheel loader during a rockfall disaster. Meanwhile, to reduce the influence of subjective factors, the fuzzy set theory is introduced into BN. The result showed that the probability of failure of the wheel loader under rockfall disaster is 13.11%. In addition, the key cause of the failure of the wheel loader under the rockfall disaster is the malfunction of mechanical parts. The probability of mechanical component failures in this case is as high as 88%, while the probability of human error is 6%. The research results not only show the ability of the BN to incorporate subjective judgment but also can provide a reference for fault diagnosis and risk assessment of wheel loaders under rockfall disaster conditions.

The rotor is one of the most core components of the rotating machinery and its working states directly influence the working states of the whole rotating machinery. There exists much uncertainty in the field of fault diagnosis in the rotor system. This paper analyses the familiar faults of the rotor system and the corresponding faulty symptoms, then establishes the rotor’s Bayesian network model based on above information. A fault diagnosis system based on the Bayesian network model is developed. Using this model, the conditional probability of the fault happening is computed when the observation of the rotor is presented. Thus, the fault reason can be determined by these probabilities. The diagnosis system developed is used to diagnose the actual three faults of the rotor of the rotating machinery and the results prove the efficiency of the method proposed.

This paper proposes a novel fault diagnosis method for rotating machinery based on symptom parameters and Bayesian Network. Non-dimensional symptom parameters in frequency domain calculated from vibration signals are defined for reflecting the features of vibration signals. In addition, sensitive evaluation method for selecting good non-dimensional symptom parameters using the method of discrimination index is also proposed for detecting and distinguishing faults in rotating machinery. Finally, the application example of diagnosis for a roller bearing by Bayesian Network is given. Diagnosis results show the methods proposed in this paper are effective.

A Bayesian network approach is presented for probabilistic safety analysis (PSA) of railway lines. The idea consists of identifying and reproducing all the elements that the train encounters when circulating along a railway line, such as light and speed limit signals, tunnel or viaduct entries or exits, cuttings and embankments, acoustic sounds received in the cabin, curves, switches, etc. In addition, since the human error is very relevant for safety evaluation, the automatic train protection (ATP) systems and the driver behavior and its time evolution are modelled and taken into account to determine the probabilities of human errors. The nodes of the Bayesian network, their links and the associated probability tables are automatically constructed based on the line data that need to be carefully given. The conditional probability tables are reproduced by closed formulas, which facilitate the modelling and the sensitivity analysis. A sorted list of the most dangerous elements in the line is obtained, which permits making decisions about the line safety and programming maintenance operations in order to optimize them and reduce the maintenance costs substantially. The proposed methodology is illustrated by its application to several cases that include real lines such as the Palencia-Santander and the Dublin-Belfast lines.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIT2016.2016.3428
