Creating an English learning environment in which learners are highly motivated is sometimes very challenging for EFL teachers. Folktales can be useful for facilitating learners in their competence of English language and also for enhancing their cross-cultural awareness. In the field of language teaching, the richness and potential of folktales seems to have been under-utilized in today’s language classes. This paper explores how folktales can be used as a medium of improving students’ reading skills and major benefits in using folktales for teaching English.  A classroom action research was employed to attain the purpose of this study in which two cyclic learning sessions were conducted to improve English learners’ reading skills. Several selected Indonesian folktales were intensively utilized in reading classes. This result of this study indicates that use of folktales by EFL teachers could improve student’ reading skill and widen their vocabulary and at the same time, culture is acquired by the students.

Today, with the rapid development of the information age, the education reform tends to be internationalized. The tertiary-level EFL education in colleges and universities has also changed its original model with focuses on cultivating gen-eral-purpose linguistic skills to one on students' English for Academic Purpose (EAP). EAP English instruction has been vigorously popularized in research-based universities. To achieve the informationized and standardized management for EAP English instruction work in the universities, in this paper, we design and develop a EAP English online learning system with B / S as the system develop-ment framework by which the system's overall functions are designed. MySQL is chosen as a database development tool used to implement the main object mod-ule, while JSP technology is used to support the cross-platform mechanism in order to access to diversified data sources. It is proved by the test on system op-eration that this system features operability, easy to use and maintain, and enables to meet the needs of university students for EAP English learning and teaching management, improves the students’ EAP English learning model and efficiency.

With deepening internationalization, English has become an increasingly important communication tool. Because traditional English teaching has short teacher-student interaction time, lack of oral English training environment, and single learning method, the oral English teaching is not ideal, and the students’ “speaking” confidence is insufficient. Aimed at addressing the exposed problems of traditional English reading teaching, this paper proposes a multimedia-based English reading teaching mode. On this basis, establish a voice recognition phoneme network grid to detect the recognition results. Secondly, the lattice is used to generate the confusion network mesh, and the acoustic posterior probability is calculated. Then, the feature vector is input into the SVM classifier for confidence mark, and finally the feature is extracted by principal component analysis. The research shows that multimedia network teaching can teach more vividly, increasing the initiative of students. At the same time, it is shown that the speech recognition confidence learning algorithm can improve the language learning system.

Abstract The aim of this study is to unveil English learners’ beliefs and emotions regarding the English language education received in Catalan schools. For that purpose, data from 5 focus groups with 31 university students have been analysed through a combination of MCA and small stories analysis. The findings reveal that the participants are dissatisfied with the English language education provided, and they believe that the teachers and/or the system are to blame for their (low) level of English. In the main story analysed, boredom, demotivation, irritation and frustration are emotions attached to English learning in high school, which are also present in most of our subjects’ small stories; it is the repetition (iterativity) of small stories, beliefs and emotions across participants that leads us to the detection of a discourse of victimhood, by which students identify themselves as the victims of their English teachers and/or the education system.

With the development of technology, the number of English learners who opt for online learning has been increasing. In the past, students had a tendency to download English materials and watch online videos for improving their English skills. Recently, thanks to a shift to online learning, students have been making more use of online synchronous oneon-one English classes to improve their English at leisure. Although this type of learning mode is becoming more and more popular, the study of the difficulties and challenges of English learners in such a field has been under-explored. This study attempts to use a qualitative approach to interview two English learners of different backgrounds to better understand the difficulties and challenges they encountered when using such a learning method. The two interviewees conclude points ranging from the learning aspect, distant feeling, signal delay, instability of the learning software and hardware that lead to technical problems. Certain measures to avoid the problems are also suggested in this paper.

One of the difficult parts of learning the target language for English language learners is the acquisition of vocabulary. Most learners find that English is a hard subject to be studied. However, they can enjoy learning English when it is taught in a fun way. Using games for teaching vocabulary has been very popular for several decades. Different studies revealed that games are beneficial in vocabulary learning because they enhance students’ ability to memorize words, encourage student’s interaction, improve their communicative skills and enhance students’ motivation. Games also can help the teachers to create contexts in which the language is useful and meaningful. Watching a movie is also a great way to learn English. Learners can improve their vocabulary while watching a film. Total Physical Response method can also be applied when teaching English for children. This method makes language skills more quickly understood and understood by children the use of functional English like "Show and tell". Fun English learning activities (over English learning) was done this time, considering how enthusiastic the children in Taman Baca Kudi Dusun Cunil Pegalongan village Banyumas in every activity given. This English learning activity also aims to provide English introduction materials early so that they will be accustomed to facing all things related to the English language.
