With the increasing penetration of interdisciplinary subjects, it is more difficult for researchers to complete a paper individually, showing that the division of labor can improve the level and efficiency of scientific research. Thus, collaboration among multiple scholars has become a trend in academic research. However, because the numbers of scholars and papers are increasing and cooperation between scholars has become more frequent in recent years, it is an increasingly challenging task to discover useful knowledge resources for researchers. Against the background of big data, how to help scholars quickly find interested target collaborators, encourage them to participate more actively in academic communication, and create high-quality achievements in scientific research has become a significant problem. Considering this challenge, this article proposes a framework of coauthorship strength, author contribution, and search (CCS,taking the first letter of the keyword), which is based on the coauthorship feature of Google Academics. In CSS, we combined the search algorithm to select the optimal connection path to help scholars find interested target scholars efficiently and to better solve practical application problems. Finally, our proposal is evaluated by a set of experiments based on a real-world dataset. Experimental results of our approach show better search outcomes compared to other competitive approaches.

This study investigated the knowledge resources informing television and film lighting design practice in Egypt and the value of suggesting scientific recommendations to be followed. A questionnaire was circulated among a considerable number of professional lighting designers, lighting directors, directors of photography and cameramen working in the Egyptian media industry. Most of those addressed by the survey indicated that their main knowledge resource during their work is likely to be their own past experience. Very few of them depend on the recommendations of scientific research. Moreover, critical analysis of the collected data showed that there is limited academic research in the discipline of lighting design available for Egyptian television and film practitioners to benefit from. It was concluded that the discipline of lighting design needs more scientific research to establish a database of findings, theories and paradigms just as any other design discipline.

This chapter provides a review of the book, which explores how to conceptually understand and practically evaluate the quality of qualitative research. Despite the fact that there are few scholarly pieces regarding qualitative research, the depth and creativity that the pioneering researchers have demonstrated are profound, and the extent to which they cover not only the broad quality of qualitative research but also most of the specific qualities expected by many different kinds of qualitative research is incredible. This chapter summarizes the major topics of this book. Final remarks on this exciting, creative, but difficult topic are preceded by the following summary: Fortunately, There are commonly agreed, bold standards for evaluating the goodness of qualitative research in the academic research community. These standards are a part of what is generally called “scientific research.”

A number of literature reports have shown that multi-view clustering can acquire a better performance on complete multi-view data. However, real-world data usually suffers from missing some samples in each view and has a small number of labeled samples. Additionally, almost all existing multi-view clustering models do not execute incomplete multi-view data well and fail to fully utilize the labeled samples to reduce computational complexity, which precludes them from practical application. In view of these problems, this paper proposes a novel framework called Semi-supervised Multi-View Clustering with Weighted Anchor Graph Embedding (SMVC_WAGE), which is conceptually simple and efficiently generates high-quality clustering results in practice. Specifically, we introduce a simple and effective anchor strategy. Based on selected anchor points, we can exploit the intrinsic and extrinsic view information to bridge all samples and capture more reliable nonlinear relations, which greatly enhances efficiency and improves stableness. Meanwhile, we construct the global fused graph compatibly across multiple views via a parameter-free graph fusion mechanism which directly coalesces the view-wise graphs. To this end, the proposed method can not only deal with complete multi-view clustering well but also be easily extended to incomplete multi-view cases. Experimental results clearly show that our algorithm surpasses some state-of-the-art competitors in clustering ability and time cost.

Motivated by literature reviews of quality assurance systems, scientific research, academic recognition and academic activity, the aim of this paper is to identify the causes and consequences of research performance in management that occurs in Portuguese universities. This empirical analysis involved data collection from curricular files compulsorily submitted to the national Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education. Data refers to the one and only national census for quality accreditation. Logistic regression, cluster analysis and optimal scaling were used. On the one hand, the study seems to confirm what is already known from the literature: those who do scientific research tend to achieve a greater academic promotion, because they reach higher professional categories or higher academic levels, and even more stable tenure-track contracts. On the other hand, the study reveals that the teaching load does not seem to influence academic research. Furthermore, it appears that age, gender, internationalization, professional experience and endogamy do not contribute to scientific research production.

Key words: Genetic algorithms, routing logistics, metaheuristics, schedulingAbstract. In an attempt to sovle the combinatorics problems, it is important to evaluate the costbenefit ratio between obtaining solutions of high quality and the loss of the computational resources required. The problem presented is for the routing of a vehicle with pickup and delivery of products with time window constraints. This problem requires instances of great scale (nodes≥100). A strong active time window percentage exists (≥90%) with factors of amplitude ≥75%. The problem is NP-hard and hence, the application of an exact method of solution, is limited by the time frame required for routing activity. A specialized genetic algorithm is proposed, which offers solutions of high precision and in computational times that makes its practical application useful. An experimental design is developed with good results that makes use of optimum solutions obtained by means of branch and cut algorithm without time limit.

Abstract At present, scientific research is underway to further develop vegetable growing in the secondary crop, in particular to further increase the yield and quality of white cabbage, to select a system of planting time-sowing scheme that maximizes the biological productivity of varieties, and to apply the most optimal standards of fertilization and irrigation. In this regard, the urgent task remains to determine the optimal varieties of cabbage that can be grown in repeated crops, their optimal planting scheme, timing, development and implementation of optimal standards for each variety of mineral fertilizers and irrigation, and its solution is large-scale throughout the country. Besides that a number of problematic issues are addressed, which could allow to get high and high-quality harvest of white cabbage in repeated sowing in grain-free areas.

A significant number of mass media news stories on climate change quote scientific publications. However, the journalistic process of popularizing scientific research regarding climate change has been profoundly criticized for being manipulative and inaccurate. This preliminary study used content analysis to examine the accuracy of Danish high quality newspapers in quoting scientific publications from 1997 to 2009. Out of 88 articles, 46 contained inaccuracies though the majority was found to be insignificant and random. The study concludes that Danish broadsheet newspapers are ‘moderately inaccurate’ in quoting science publications but are not deliberately hyping scientific claims. However, the study also shows that 11% contained confusion of source, meaning that statements originating from press material or other news outlets were incorrectly credited to scientific peer-reviewed publications.
