Introduction. Missed canal is one of the common reasons for nonsurgical endodontic retreatments. The missed canals were frequently associated with periapical pathology. The aim of this systematic review was to find the diagnostic accuracy of CBCT for detection of the second canal of the root canal system of permanent teeth. Materials and Methods. The articles were selected from seven electronic databases according to selection criteria. All eligible studies were judged by the reviewers. The selected studies were checked with the QUADAS-2 tool for risk of bias and applicability concerns. Finally, 12 studies were selected for qualitative and quantitative analyses. The summary estimates of sensitivities and specificities and SROC curves were calculated and drawn by RevMan 5.3 and MetaDTA software. Results. Summary estimates of CBCT for detection of second canal anatomy in permanent teeth were 94% sensitivity and 93.1% specificity. 96.6% sensitivity of MB2 was followed by 88.8% sensitivity of maxillary and mandibular premolars and 81% that of mandibular molars. The specificity of 97.6% for premolars was trialed by 85% specificity of mandibular molars and MB2. For permanent mandibular canines, 67% sensitivity and 100% specificity were estimated. CBCT showed more agreement with detecting the second canal with micro-CT, estimating 100% sensitivity and 95.6% specificity. The highest prevalence of the second canal comprised the highest sensitivity of 99.1% and lowest specificity of 77.5%. After the exclusion of case-control studies, a 3% drop of sensitivity from the summary estimate was observed. Multiple spectrum of the second canal had 8.6% higher sensitivity and 4.4% lower specificity than single spectrum. Conclusion. CBCT is informative for detecting the second canal. Clinicians should keep in mind that the accuracy can vary in different types of teeth, with the prevalence of second canal across different populations, and with the spectrum of second canal anatomy in spite of the reviewers having postulated overestimation of the findings.

ObjectiveThe number of mobile applications addressing health topics is increasing. Whether these apps underwent scientific evaluation is unclear. We comprehensively assessed papers investigating the diagnostic value of available diagnostic health applications using inbuilt smartphone sensors.MethodsSystematic Review—MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science inclusive Medical Informatics and Business Source Premier (by citation of reference) were searched from inception until 15 December 2016. Checking of reference lists of review articles and of included articles complemented electronic searches. We included all studies investigating a health application that used inbuilt sensors of a smartphone for diagnosis of disease. The methodological quality of 11 studies used in an exploratory meta-analysis was assessed with the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 tool and the reporting quality with the ’STAndards for the Reporting of Diagnostic accuracy studies' (STARD) statement. Sensitivity and specificity of studies reporting two-by-two tables were calculated and summarised.ResultsWe screened 3296 references for eligibility. Eleven studies, most of them assessing melanoma screening apps, reported 17 two-by-two tables. Quality assessment revealed high risk of bias in all studies. Included papers studied 1048 subjects (758 with the target conditions and 290 healthy volunteers). Overall, the summary estimate for sensitivity was 0.82 (95 % CI 0.56 to 0.94) and 0.89 (95 %CI 0.70 to 0.97) for specificity.ConclusionsThe diagnostic evidence of available health apps on Apple’s and Google’s app stores is scarce. Consumers and healthcare professionals should be aware of this when using or recommending them.PROSPERO registration number42016033049.

Abstract Background: Hyperlipidemia plays an important role in the etiology of cardio-cerebrovascular disease. Over recent years, a number of studies have explored the impact of apolipoprotein genetic polymorphisms in hyperlipidemia, but considerable differences and uncertainty have been found in their association for different populations from different regions. Objective: To correlate apolipoprotein gene expression with hyperlipidemia through a systematic review of case-control studies. Methods: Comprehensive identification of relevant articles in Pubmed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, CNKI, Wangfang, and VIP published to June 9, 2020. A systematic review of hyperlipidemia case-control studies was conducted to evaluate the quality of data in articles included in the review, and a meta-analysis was conducted using Stata 11 software. Results: A total of 59 articles were included, containing in total 13843 hyperlipidemia patients in the case group and 15398 healthy controls in the control group. Meta-analysis of the data indicated that APOA5-1131T>C, APOA1 -75bp, APOB XbaⅠand APOE gene polymorphisms were significantly associated with hyperlipidemia, with OR values of 1.996, 1.228, 1.444 and 1.710, respectively, for allele models. All P values were less than 0.05. Conclusions: Meta-analysis of the data indicated that the C allele of APOA5 1131T>C, the A allele at APOA1-75bp, the APOB XbaⅠ T allele, and the ε4 allele of APOE were each a risk factor for susceptibility for hyperlipidemia.

Background:: It is undeniable that diabetes may cause several health complications for the population. Many of these complications are associated with poor glycemic control. Due to this, strategies to handle this problem are of great clinical importance and may contribute to reducing the various complications from diabetes. Objective: : The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the passion fruit peel flour versus turmeric flour on glycemic control. Methods: This is a systematic review and meta-analysis following the PRISMA protocol. The following inclusion criteria were applied: (1) Case-control studies, cohort studies, and clinical trials, due to the improved statistical analysis and, in restrict cases, cross-sectional studies; (2) Articles published in any language. The databases used for the search were PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane, and LILACS. A bias analysis and a meta-analyses were undertaken using R Studio (version 3.3.1) using effect- size models. Results: : A total of 565 studies were identified from which 11 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Through isolated analysis, the effectiveness of turmeric flour on glycemic control was in the order of 0.73 CI (Confidence Interval) (from 0.68 to 0.79) and the effectiveness of passion fruit peel flour was 0.32 CI (0.23 to 0.45). The joint analysis resulted in 0.59 CI (0.52 to 0.68). The assessment of blood glucose was by glycated hemoglobin levels. All values were significant at a p < 0.05 level. Conclusion: Both interventions showed significant effects on glycemic control.

Abstract Objective: We aimed to evaluate the association between coffee and/or tea consumption and breast cancer (BC) risk among premenopausal and postmenopausal women and to conduct a network meta-analysis. Design: Systematic review and network meta-analysis. Setting: We conducted a systematic review of electronic publications in the last 30 years to identify case–control studies or prospective cohort studies that evaluated the effects of coffee and tea intake. Results: Forty-five studies that included more than 3 323 288 participants were eligible for analysis. Network meta-analysis was performed to determine the effects of coffee and/or tea consumption on reducing BC risk in a dose-dependent manner and differences in coffee/tea type, menopause status, hormone receptor and the BMI in subgroup and meta-regression analyses. According to the first pairwise meta-analysis, low-dose coffee intake and high-dose tea intake may exhibit efficacy in preventing ER(estrogen receptor)− BC, particularly in postmenopausal women. Then, we performed another pairwise and network meta-analysis and determined that the recommended daily doses were 2–3 cups/d of coffee or ≥5 cups/d of tea, which contained a high concentration of caffeine, particularly in postmenopausal women. Conclusions: Coffee and tea consumption is not associated with a reduction in the overall BC risk in postmenopausal women and is associated with a potentially lower risk of ER− BC. And the highest recommended dose is 2–3 cups of coffee/d or ≥5 cups of tea/d. They are potentially useful dietary protectants for preventing BC.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the efficacy of fluorescence-based methods, visual inspections, and photographic visual examinations in initial caries detection. A literature search was undertaken in the PubMed and Cochrane databases. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed, and eligible articles published from 1 January 2009 to 30 October 2019 were included if they met the following criteria: they (1) assessed the accuracy of methods of detecting initial tooth caries lesions on occlusal, proximal, or smooth surfaces in both primary and permanent teeth (in clinical); (2) used a reference standard; (3) reported data regarding the sample size, prevalence of initial tooth caries, and accuracy of the methods. Data collection and extraction, quality assessment, and data analysis were conducted according to Cochrane standards Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2. Statistical analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3 and STATA 14.0. A total of 12 eligible articles were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that the sensitivity and specificity of fluorescence-based methods were 80% and 80%, respectively; visual inspection was measured at 80% and 75%, respectively; photographic visual examination was measured at 67% and 79%, respectively. We found that the visual method and the fluorescence method were reliable for laboratory use to detect early-stage caries with equivalent accuracy.
