Swelling of soft rock, such as gypsum rock, is one of the major threats in tunnel engineering, causing structure damages such as floor heave and inward movement of sidewalls during construction and operation. It is of practical significance to study the swelling mechanical behavior of such rocks by tests. Swelling strain tests and swelling stress tests were performed by swelling test apparatus to study the variation of swelling strain with time and the swelling stress-strain relationship for gypsum rock samples, respectively. Three stages of the swelling strain on the time-strain curve of gypsum rock samples were noticed, which are defined as rapid swelling stage, slow swelling stage, and steady stage. And it was further found that the swelling strain caused in the slow swelling stage is of 76% of the total swelling strain. A constitutive model is proposed to describe the stress-strain relationship in swelling considering the swelling deformation and swelling pressure. The proposed model was verified using test data, which shows good agreements in describing the relationship between swelling strain and swelling stress, also in the conditions of maximum swelling strain and maximum swelling stress under lateral restraint situations.

The mechanical properties and stress-strain relationship of cemented backfills with different stratified structure have a direct effect on the mining-filling cycle and the mining of adjacent pillars. To obtain the stress-strain evolution curves, the uniaxial compressive strength tests were performed on backfills with stratified numbers of 0, 1, 2 and 3. The deformation of stratified backfill under the compressive load is regarded as a compound of closed deformation of the macroscopic stratified structure and elastic deformation of material. The damage constitutive model of cemented backfills with different stratified structure are established by considering the influence of compacted section. Comparative analysis reveals that the calculated curve based on the established sectional damage constitutive model conforms well to the trial curve. The maximum closed strain of the structural plane has a more significant effect on the mechanical properties of backfill. In the Weibull distribution, with the increase of the parameter m, the peak strength of backfill gradually increases and then reaches to a certain value, and the stress-strain curve gradually becomes steeper, which shows that m is a reflection of the concentration level of micro-unit strength distribution in the backfill..

Nanoporous Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) are widely used in aerospace, military industry, medical and health and other fields. More and more attention has been paid to its mechanical properties. In particular, when the size of the pores is reduced to the nanometer level, the effect of the surface effect of the nanoporous material on the mechanical properties of the SMA will increase sharply, and the residual strain of the SMA material will change with the nanoporosity. In this work, the expression of Young’s modulus of nanopore SMA considering surface effects is first derived, which is a function of nanoporosity and nanopore size. Based on the obtained Young’s modulus, a constitutive model of nanoporous SMA considering residual strain is established. Then, the stress–strain curve of dense SMA based on the new constitutive model is drawn by numerical method. The results are in good agreement with the simulation results in the published literature. Finally, the stress-strain curves of SMA with different nanoporosities are drawn, and it is concluded that the Young’s modulus and strength limit decrease with the increase of nanoporosity.

The stress-strain relationship of Grade 275 steel reinforcing bar under cyclic (reversed) loading is examined using experimental results obtained previously from eleven test specimens to which a variety of axial loading cycles has been applied. A Ramberg-Osgood function is fitted to the experimental stress-strain curves to follow the cyclic stress-strain behaviour after the first load run in the plastic range. The empirical constants in the function are determined by regression analysis and are found to depend mainly on the plastic strain imposed
in the previous loading run. The monotonic stress-strain curve for the steel, with origin of strains suitably adjusted, is assumed to be the envelope curve giving the upper limit of stress. The resulting Ramberg-Osgood expression and envelope is found to give good agreement with the experimentally measured cyclic stress-strain curves.

This paper describes a fracture assessment method for a pipe having multiple circumferential flaws. According to Fitness-for-Service (FFS) codes for nuclear facilities published by the Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME), the fracture strength of a high-ductility pipe having a circumferential flaw is evaluated using the limit load assessment method assuming the elastic–perfectly-plastic stress–strain relationship. In this assessment, flow stress is used as a proportional stress. However, previous experimental results [1, 2, 3] show that a crack penetrates before the entire flawed pipe section reaches the flow stress. Therefore, stress concentration at a flaw was evaluated on the basis of the Dugdale model [4], and the fracture strength of the crack-ligament was evaluated. This model can predict test results with high accuracy when the ligament fracture strength is assumed to be tensile strength. Based on this examination, a fracture assessment method for pipes having multiple flaws was developed considering the stress concentration in the crack-ligament by using the realistic stress–strain relationship (Ramberg–Osgood-type stress–strain curve). The fracture strength of a multiple-flawed pipe estimated by the developed method was compared with previous experimental results. When the stress concentration in the crack-ligament was taken into consideration, the fracture strength estimated using the Ramberg–Osgood-type stress–strain curve was in good agreement with experimental results, confirming the validity of the proposed method.

In this work, we first studied the thermal damage to typical rocks, assuming that the strength of thermally damaged rock microelements obeys a Weibull distribution and considering the influence of temperature on rock mechanical parameters; under the condition that microelement failure conforms to the Drucker–Prager criterion, the statistical thermal damage constitutive model of rocks after high-temperature exposure was established. On this basis, conventional triaxial compression tests were carried out on oil shale specimens heated to different temperatures, and according to the results of these tests, the relationship between the temperature and parameters in the statistical thermal damage constitutive model was determined, and the thermal damage constitutive model for oil shale was established. The results show that the thermal damage in oil shale increases with the increase of temperature; the damage variable is largest at 700°C, reaching 0.636; from room temperature to 700°C, the elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio decrease by 62.66% and 64.57%, respectively; the theoretical stress-strain curve obtained from the model is in good agreement with the measured curves; the maximum difference between the two curves before peak strength is only 5 × 10−4; the model accurately reflects the deformation characteristics of oil shale at high temperature. The research results are of practical significance to the underground in situ thermal processing of oil shale.

Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), which has very special properties that are remarkably different to the properties of normal and high performance concrete, is being increasingly used for the construction of structure. In this paper, an experimental program was formulated to investigate the characteristics of complete stress-strain curve of UHPC in uniaxial compression and flexural behaviors of prestressed UHPC beams. The particular focus was the influence of the partial prestress ratio and jacking stress on the flexural response of UHPC beams. The results show that UHPC is of good deformability, and a general form of the serpentine curve is proposed to represent the complete stress-strain relationship of UHPC in compression. The tests of beams demonstrated that the UHPC beams have an excellent behavior in load carrying capacity, crack distribution and deformability, their ultimate deflection can reach 1/34~1/70 of the span. Based on this investigation, theoretical correlations for the prediction structure response of UHPC beam are proposed.

According to the contrast test of LC30, LC40 lightweight aggregate concrete and C30, C40 common concrete , the text researched the mechanical property of lightweight aggregate concrete and ordinary concrete in the same strength grade and obtained the regularity of stress-strain curve of lightweight aggregate concrete in different strength grade. Then we contrasted the experimental results and planning model, analysed the difference, and suggested that the standards should improve the descent stage of the stress-strain curve of lightweight aggregate concrete combined with correlative experiments data, and give the equation of the descent stage of stress-strain curves. Concrete material in axial compression is the basic physical mechanical performance of concrete material, and is the main basis for researching bearing capacity and deformation of concrete construction. The stress-strain relationship is all-around macroscopic reaction of basal compressive property . There have been many experiments work about the stress-strain relationship of lightweight aggregate concrete at home and abroad , and found the peak strain of lightweight aggregate concrete is higher than that of ordinary concrete in the context of same peak stress .In this paper, on the basis of experimental investigations of lightweight aggregate concrete , aim at the stress-strain relationship ,we have take comparison experiment about LC30,LC40 lightweight aggregate concrete and C30,C40 ordinary concrete , and sort out stress-strain curve under the condition of the shaft center being compressed, so get the average tress-strain curve of LC30,LC40 lightweight aggregate concrete , and analyse the curve.

From the feature of rock micro-unit failure obeys Poisson random distribution, the damage softening statistical constitutive of was established under true triaxial confinement based on D-P criterion, so the impact of the intermediate principal stress on rock deformation and failure was considered in theory, and the actual engineering rock complex stress path evolution was reflected more realistically. Furthermore, according to the geometrical conditions of stress-strain relationship, the theoretical relationship between constitutive model parameters and the stress-strain curve characteristic parameters during the process of rock softening and deforming, which enhance the adaptability of the model. Finally, the rationality of the model verified by the measured data.

The authors conducted research aimed at developing a new type of permeable concrete material with enhanced structural strength. This paper presents and discusses the results of their investigation on the unaxial compressive stress-strain relationship of porous concrete made with two different mix designs with constant water to cement ratio. The concrete mixes were designed with a target compressive strength between 15-25 MPa and target porosity between 10-15% to study the effect of pore sizes on the stress-strain curve. The average pore space was increased by increasing the relative amount of large aggregate. The reduction in the relative amount of fine aggregate increased the average pore space and resulted in a reduction in mix stiffness and a marginal increase in ultimate strength.
