Background. Due to increase in the life expectancy and changes related to aging, it is important to assess ADL (activities of daily living) in older adults. However, there is no standardized protocol available to assess ADLs. Considering the limitations of the available tools, a new protocol named Londrina ADL protocol was developed for which normative values are unavailable in different ethnic groups. Objective. To develop the normative value and reference equation for the Londrina ADL protocol on the basis of anthropometric and demographic variables in healthy individuals in the age group of 40–60 years among the Indian population. Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 282 healthy individuals of both the genders between the age group of 40 and 60 and they were divided into 2 groups: 40–49 and 50–60. Each subject was made to perform the Londrina ADL protocol twice with a 30 min interval between the two protocols. The protocol is composed of 5 activities and the best out of the 2 performances were recorded. Results. The mean time taken among 40–49 years by females is 3.50 ± 0.50 min and by males is 3.73 ± 0.43 min. The mean time taken among 50–60 years by females is 4.25 ± 0.20 min and by males is 4.36 ± 0.18 min. The reference equation to predict reference values for the Londrina ADL protocol was as follows: equation (1): Londrina ADL predicted = 1.205 + (0.054 × age (years)) + (0.001 × height (cm)); equation (2): Londrina ADL predicted = 1.374 + (0.054 × age (years)) + (−0.003 × BMI). Conclusion. The reference equation for the time to complete the Londrina ADL protocol was based on age and BMI as independent variables and can be useful for predicting the performance of healthy individuals.

Background: The Glittre ADL test was done to assess the functional capacity of patients with COPD. 6 MWT was used to check for functional capacity, but there was a limitation of upper limb work or activities other than walking. Objective: To develop reference equations for Glittre ADL test on the basis of anthropometric and demographic variables in healthy individual among Indian population. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 423 healthy participants of either gender between 20-70 years. Participants were divided into 5 groups based on age. Each participant underwent anthropometric assessment & two glitter ADL tests. Two out of the best performance out of two was considered and the minimum time spend was taken. Results: The mean time spent by males in different age groups was 20-30 years 3.18±0.56, 30-40 years 3.36±0.17, 40-50 years 3.46±0.18, 50-60 years 3.53±0.15, 60-70 years 4.02±0.27.For females in different age groups the mean time was 20-30 years 3.31±0.14, 30-40 years 3.41±0.13, 40-50 years 3.48±0.13, 50-60 years 3.75±0.28, 60-70 years 4.30±0.19. Equation 1 : Glittre ADL-test predicted =3.399+(0.018×age years)+(-0.004×height cm), Equation 2 : Glittre ADL-test predicted =2.805+(-0.002× BMI)+(0.018×age year). Conclusion: The reference equations for the time to complete the Glittre ADL-test were based on age, BMI, height as independent variables and can be useful for predicting the performance of adult individuals.

Periodontal disease (PD), a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by destruction of the supporting tissues of the teeth, increases the risk of complications in diabetics. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular complication of prolonged hyperglycaemia. There appears to be a similarity in the pathogenesis of DR and PD. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the association, if any, between DR and PD, correlate the severity of DR with the severity of PD, and investigate the association between glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), serum creatinine and periodontal variables. The periodontal status of 200 adult diabetic patients in the age group of 30–65 years with varying severity of DR was assessed. Evaluation of the severity of PD was assessed by recording clinical parameters. Haematological investigations including glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and serum creatinine were estimated before the initiation of treatment for DR. A statistically significant association between the mean duration of diabetes mellitus (DM) and the severity of DR and PD was found. The severity of PD was directly correlated with the severity of DR. There was a significant association between the levels of HbA1c and serum creatinine and severity of DR and PD. There could be a plausible relationship between DR and PD. Further prospective studies on a larger population with longer follow-ups are required to ascertain whether PD and its severity directly affect the progression and severity of DR.

Background: Individuals with intellectual developmental disorder (IDD) suffers from poor oral health due to impaired physical coordination and cognitive skills. However, their dental caries status is mostly underreported particularly in low-income countries. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the dental caries status of individuals with IDD as compared to age and gender matched healthy individuals in India. Methodology: In this comparative cross-sectional study, dental caries status of 266 individuals with IDDs aged 13-35 years and 266 age and gender-matched healthy individuals were assessed using the DMFT index. Statistical analysis was done using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon signed ranks test, Kruskal Wallis Test and Mann Whitney test. Results: Of the 266 individuals with IDD, IDD associated with autism (n=40, 15%) was the most common type of disability. 10.9% of the case and 30.5% of controls were caries-free. The mean number of decayed tooth and the DMFT score (DT= 4.16±4.17 vs 0.65±0.90; DMFT= 4.56±4.55 vs 1.41±1.42); P Value=0.00) were signicantly higher among disabled compared to their healthy controls. Whereas the mean number of the lled tooth (0.18±0.81 vs 0.68±1.1; Pvalue=0.00) was signicantly lower. DT and DMFT increased signicantly with the severity of disability (P value<0.05). Conclusion:Individuals with IDD had a highercaries experience and considerably lower lled tooth ratecompared to healthy individuals. Uplifting the priority given to oral health by oral health education programs and implementing strategies to improve access to dental services will help to address many of the challenges faced by these lessfortunate individuals.
