Cobalt-Salen mediated electroreductive and regioselective alkylation of electron deficient olefins is reported in one step in an undivided electrochemical cell, in the presence of an iron rod as sacrificial anode. Although the reactivity depends on the class of alkyl halides, the reported study offers a green and expeditious electrosynthetic route for Csp3-Csp3 bond formation in mild conditions. This study also confirms the possible formation of the heterobinuclear cobalt-Salen-iron complex previously reported as the effective catalyst.

AbstractThe use of catalysts in the activation of carboxyl groups towards nucleophilic attack and the protection of other functional groups by suitable protecting groups are standard and necessary procedures in amide bond formation. In contrast to the usual methods, various new compounds, amides of APTES ((3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane, 3-triethoxysilylpropylamine) and carboxyphenylboronic acids, as well as the amides of aniline and carboxyphenylboronic acids, were obtained in good yields by a one-step synthesis under mild conditions without using any coupling reagents or additional catalysts.

A highly efficient copper-catalyzed intermolecular C(sp2)–H thioamination of maleimides with thiols and formamides in the presence of fluoroboric acid is reported using various readily available formamides as nitrogen sources and solvents. A diverse range of 3-amino-4-thiomaleimides is obtained with good yields under mild conditions, involving C–N and C–S bond formation. This methodology enriches current C–N and C–S bond formation chemistry and features operational simplicity and excellent functional-group tolerance.

Design and implementation of the first (asymmetric) Fe-catalyzed intra- and intermolecular difunctionalization of vinyl cyclopropanes (VCPs) with alkyl halides and aryl Grignard reagents has been realized via a mechanistically driven approach. Mechanistic studies support the diffusion of the alkyl radical intermediates out of the solvent cage to participate in an intra- or -intermolecular radical cascade with the VCP followed by re-entering the Fe radical cross-coupling cycle to undergo selective C(sp2)-C(sp3) bond formation. Overall, we provide new design principles for Fe-mediated radical processes and underscore the potential of using combined computations and experiments to accelerate the development of challenging transformations.

AbstractThe development of highly efficient C–C bond formation methods for the synthesis of ethyl 2-(2,4-dichloro-5-fluorobenzoyl)-3-(dimethylamino)acrylate 1 in continuous flow processes has been described, which is based on the concept of rapid and efficient activation of carboxylic acid. 2,4-Dichloro-5-fluorobenzoic acid is rapidly converted into highly reactive 2,4-dichloro-5-fluorobenzoyl chloride by treating with inexpensive and less-toxic solid bis(trichloromethyl)carbonate. And then it rapidly reacts with ethyl 3-(dimethylamino)acrylate to afford the desired 1. This process can be performed under mild conditions. Compared with the traditional tank reactor process, less raw material consumption, higher product yield, less reaction time, higher operation safety ensured by more the environmentally friendly procedure, and process continuity are achieved in the continuous-flow system.
