Information literacy assessment is extremely important for the evaluation of the information literacy skills of college students. Intelligent optimization technique is an effective strategy to optimize the weight parameters of the information literacy assessment index system (ILAIS). In this paper, a new version of differential evolution algorithm (DE), named hybrid differential evolution with model-based reinitialization (HDEMR), is proposed to accurately fit the weight parameters of ILAIS. The main contributions of this paper are as follows: firstly, an improved contraction criterion which is based on the population entropy in objective space and the maximum distance in decision space is employed to decide when the local search starts. Secondly, a modified model-based population reinitialization strategy is designed to enhance the global search ability of HDEMR to handle complex problems. Two types of experiments are designed to assess the performance of HDEMR. In the first type of experiments, HDEMR is tested and compared with seven well-known DE variants on CEC2005 and CEC2014 benchmark functions. In the second type of experiments, HDEMR is compared with the well-known and widely used deterministic algorithm DIRECT on GKLS test classes. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of HDEMR for global numerical optimization and show better performance. Furthermore, HDEMR is applied to optimize the weight parameters of ILAIS at China University of Geosciences (CUG), and satisfactory results are obtained.

This chapter describes how the researchers at a small private Master's level college examined how different delivery modes—face-to-face (F2F), hybrid, and online instruction—may impact first-year students' perceptions of their information literacy (IL) skills compared to their test-assessed information literacy skills using the students perception of information literacy-questionnaire (SPIL-Q) and information literacy assessment (ILA) instruments. These instruments were developed and deployed to international graduate business students in two previous studies: Michalak and Rysavy and Michalak, Rysavy, and Wessel. The students (n=161) in this study were enrolled in a first-year English composition course in the Spring 2017 semester. This iteration achieved an overall response rate of 87.04% (n=141). Overall, results demonstrated the greatest achievement were demonstrated by students in hybrid course sections.

In order to improve the comprehensive technical and economic indicators of a double circular gear, based on the conjugate principle and design method of the double circular gear, by use of the modified differential evolution multi-objective optimization technique and MATLAB computer simulation technology, constrained multi-objective optimization design of a double circular gear was done. According to the research process and results, by use of the improved differential evolutionary multi-objective optimization technique, the design cycle of product can be shorten effectively, the design quality of product can be improved.

Purified lactic acid is used for production of biodegradable polymer. Esterification with methanol and subsequent hydrolysis in distillation column using cation exchange resin as catalyst to produce purified lactic acid has obvious advantages. In this paper, we present a theoretical study on optimization of industrial production (1000 t/year) of pure lactic acid using differential evolution (DE), a robust global optimization technique. The objective function is to minimize the overall cost with a view to obtain the optimized values of the decision variables: esterification reaction temperature, number of stages, feed location, reflux ratio, catalyst weight, number of reactive stages and position of reactive stages for hydrolysis.
