The aim of this study is to evaluate the predictive efficacy of the radiographic parameters and the relationship between the radiographic results and the clinical data. We carried out a retrospective study analyzing the data of 225 pediatric patients with forearm fractures treated conservatively. Two orthopaedists examined 4 different radiographic parameters. They compared CI and radial translation parameters at T0, in terms of indication of type of treatment and predictive efficacy. Afterwards, the two orthopaedists analyzed X-rays performed at T1, evaluating radiographic results according to radial shortening and angle parameters. From the analysis of the CI measured by Observer 1, 135 patients out of 225 had retrospective indication to conservative treatment; the frequency of failure was 18/135 (13.3%). Observer 2 indicated conservative treatment in 144 patients out of 225 and the proportion of failure was 21/144 (14.6%). As regards the radial translation, Observer 1 reported a frequency of failure of 78/225 (34.7%) and Observer 2 reported 75/222 (33.8%). Furthermore the authors detected a deficit of pronosupination for the patients considered to have failure according to radiographic results. The authors defined the greater reliability of CI with respect to the radial translation parameter and the direct relationship between radiographic failure and clinical-functional data.

Is it possible to transform stone into a technological and innovative device? The meeting with one of the main stone transformers in Europe produced the intention of a disruptive operation that could affect the strategy of the whole company. A contagious singularity. By intertwining LEAN methodologies and the human-centric approach of design thinking, we mapped the value creation in the company activating a dialogue with the workers and the management, listening to people, asking for ambitions, discovering problems and the potential of production. This qualitative and quantitative analysis conducted with a multidisciplinary approach by designers, architects and marketing strategists allowed us to define a new method. We used it to design a platform that could let all the players express their potential to the maximum. This is how the group's research laboratory was born, with the aim of promoting the relationship between humans and stone through product innovation. With this goal, we coordinated the new team, developing technologies that would allow creating a more direct relationship between man and surface, making the stone reactive. The result was the first responsive kitchen ever.

The study evaluates the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Effectiveness through a Systematic Review of Literature. The relationship has been evaluated in two steps. First, a Systematic review of literature was done to provide a theoretical framework to link the dimensions of Emotional Intelligence to the elements of effective leadership. Meta-analysis was then used to consolidate empirical evidence of the relationship. The studies for the meta-analysis were sourced from Pro Quest and EBSCO and the correlation coefficients of the studies were analysed. Only articles that presented the direct relationship between the variables were included in the study. The results of the analysis revealed a strong, statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and effective leadership. The findings of the study provide evidence for the proposition that Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Effectiveness are interrelated.

The article presents materials about the relationship of the duration of productive use of cows with the characteristic of resistance to degradation, with the age of calving and milk yield. In the studied group of animals, which is heterogeneous in origin, the regression equation is suitable for predicting the productive period of cows due to resistance to degradation and the age of the first calving, the arguments of which are the stability index, the age of the first calving in the first and second degrees. The correlation coefficient between the predicted values of the productive period and its actual values in group I is 0.502, in group II - 0.604. At the same time, the extreme variants are predicted with statistical errors of 5 months when evaluating the stability index for 2 lactations and 4.1 months for 3, and the average variants, respectively, are 1.6 and 1.51 months. The index of resistance to the aging process is an important characteristic of the biological characteristics of cows, which determines their productive longevity. Its estimate for the first 2 and 3 lactations has a direct relationship with the productive period (r=0.4109 and r=0.5270), respectively. The dependence of the productive period age at first calving curvilinear with increasing age at first calving reduces the time to productive use, while age at first calving of more than 1400 days, the period of productive use ranges from 1.33 to 1.41 lactation. The correlation coefficient between these characteristics of cows is-0.2164 in I and-0.2620 in II groups.

ABSTRACT This paper examines the relationship between audit seniors discussing their own experiences with committing and correcting errors (modeling fallibility), and audit juniors' thinking about errors and error communication (openly discussing their own self-discovered errors). The paper investigates the direct relationship between senior modeling fallibility and juniors' responses, and whether the relationship is mediated through error strain and error-related self-efficacy. Survey data from 266 audit juniors from two Big 4 Canadian accounting firms showed a direct positive association between audit senior modeling fallibility and audit juniors' thinking about errors, and error communication. This relationship is positively mediated through error-related self-efficacy. We also found that the relationship is mediated by error strain. However, although audit senior modeling fallibility was associated with reduced error strain, error strain was positively related to both thinking about errors and error communication, contrary to our hypothesis. The paper discusses the theoretical and practical implications of these results.

Background: Conservative treatment is the first-line approach for Müller-Weiss disease (MWD). However, factors associated with the failure of conservative treatment have never been reported. Our objectives were to compare the differences in demographic and radiographic parameters between “successful” and “failure” conservative treatment in patients with MWD and identify descriptive factors associated with failure conservative treatment. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 68 patients with MWD divided into 29 “failure” and 39 “successful” conservative treatment groups. Demographic characteristics, Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS), visual analog scale (VAS) scores for pain and walking disability, and radiographic parameters such as calcaneal pitch, lateral Meary, anteroposterior (AP) Meary angle, and talonavicular-naviculocuneiform arthritis were compared. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify descriptive factors of failure conservative treatment. A P value <.05 was considered a statistically significant difference. Results: We found more severe VAS pain and walking disability scores and FAOS for the pain, activities of daily living, and quality of life subscales in the failure group ( P < .05). Regression analysis demonstrated 2 significant descriptive factors associated with failure conservative treatment: abducted AP Meary angle >13.0 degrees and radiographic talonavicular arthritis. No demographic characteristics were found to be associated with failure conservative treatment. Conclusion: Midfoot abduction (AP Meary angle, >13 degrees) and radiographic talonavicular arthritis were factors associated with failure conservative treatment in MWD and should be determined concurrently with the clinical severity. Classification systems for MWD should include these factors. Level of evidence: Level III, retrospective comparative study.

AbstractWe review recent progress in elucidating the relationship between high-energy radiation and the interstellar medium (ISM) in young supernova remnants (SNRs) with ages of ∼2000 yr, focusing in particular on RX J1713.7−3946 and RCW 86. Both SNRs emit strong nonthermal X-rays and TeV $\gamma $ γ -rays, and they contain clumpy distributions of interstellar gas that includes both atomic and molecular hydrogen. We find that shock–cloud interactions provide a viable explanation for the spatial correlation between the X-rays and ISM. In these interactions, the supernova shocks hit the typically pc-scale dense cores, generating a highly turbulent velocity field that amplifies the magnetic field up to 0.1–1 mG. This amplification leads to enhanced nonthermal synchrotron emission around the clumps, whereas the cosmic-ray electrons do not penetrate the clumps. Accordingly, the nonthermal X-rays exhibit a spatial distribution similar to that of the ISM on the pc scale, while they are anticorrelated at sub-pc scales. These results predict that hadronic $\gamma $ γ -rays can be emitted from the dense cores, resulting in a spatial correspondence between the $\gamma $ γ -rays and the ISM. The current pc-scale resolution of $\gamma $ γ -ray observations is too low to resolve this correspondence. Future $\gamma $ γ -ray observations with the Cherenkov Telescope Array will be able to resolve the sub-pc-scale $\gamma $ γ -ray distribution and provide clues to the origin of these cosmic $\gamma $ γ -rays.

Background:Several studies have evaluated the association between serum adiponectin levels and knee and hand osteoarthritis (OA), with mixed results. Objectives:The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between OA and serum adiponectin levels according to the radiographic features of knee and hand OA.Methods:A total of 2,402 subjects were recruited from the Dong-gu Study. Baseline characteristics were collected via a questionnaire, and X-rays of knee and hand joints were scored by a semi-quantitative grading system. The relationship between serum adiponectin levels and radiographic severity was evaluated by linear regression analysis. Results:Subjects with higher tertiles of serum adiponectin were older and had a lower body mass index than those with lower tertiles. In the knee joint scores, serum adiponectin levels were positively associated with the total score (P<0.001), osteophyte score (P=0.003), and joint space narrowing (JSN) score (P<0.001) among the three tertiles after adjustment for age, sex, body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, education, and physical activity. In the hand joint scores, no association was found between serum adiponectin levels and the total score, osteophyte score, JSN score, subchondral cyst score, sclerosis score, erosion score, and malalignment score among the three tertiles after adjustment. Conclusion:In this study, we found that increased adiponectin levels were associated with higher radiographic scores in the knee joint, but not in the hand joint, suggesting different pathophysiologic mechanisms in the development of OA.Disclosure of Interests:None declared

The study of β-ray spectra has now advanced to that stage at which, for the majority of radioactive substances, the velocities of the homogeneous electrons forming the “lines” have been measured with a fair accuracy. The relative intensities of the “lines” have in the past been obtained by visual estimation of the photographic blackening of the plates on which they have been recorded, and it has become important to obtain more precise information on this subject. The most direct method of determining the relative intensities would be to count the number of, or measure the total charge carried by, the particles forming the lines. This is not practicable, to any high degree of accuracy, because of the small effects which are obtainable, and it is obvious that the photographic plate, in giving quite intense and sharp lines, in addition to a permanent record, presents many advantages. The use of this method, however, necessitates the calibration of the plate both for the variation of the blackening with exposure and also with velocity of the rays. The corresponding calibrations for ordinary light have now become a matter of routine, but since there has, as yet, been little systematic work on the behaviour of the photographic plate to β-rays, we have thought it best to record in this paper such experiments as we have found necessary before undertaking the main intensity problem. It is the dependence of blackening on exposure which is mainly treated in this paper, although we have in addition obtained some interesting results on the effect of β-particles of different velocities. In an investigation on the relationship between blackening and exposure i. e ., the characteristic curve of a type of plate, it is first necessary to find the dependence of the blackening D on the time of exposure t , when the product of intensity I and time of exposure t is kept constant. If D is independent of t , when I. t is constant, then the Reciprocity Law of Bunsen and Roscoe is said to be valid for the plate. This law, although it has to be slightly modified for luminous radiation, has been shown to be true in the case of X-rays and also for heterogeneous β-rays. In all previous work on the photographic action of β-rays the particles were of heterogeneous velocities, but in view of the ultimate object of this investigation it was thought unsatisfactory to employ heterogeneous particles, and although the procedure was thereby made rather more laborious, beams of practically homogeneous particles, taken from the continuous β-ray spectrum, were used. It is in general important, when dealing with an unknown type of plate, after investigating the validity of the Reciprocity Law, to determine the variation of the characteristic curve with time of development, and thereby find the optimum value. Our general experience in photographing β-ray spectra had led us to employ a particular type of plate and method of development, and the main value of our experiments on the variation of the characteristic curve with time of development was that it indicated the error introduced into the value of the density for a given uncertainty in the time of development.
