Purpose. To compare the efficacy of individualized herbal decoction with standard decoction for patients with stable bronchiectasis through N-of-1 trials. Methods. We conducted a single center N-of-1 trials in 17 patients with stable bronchiectasis. Each N-of-1 trial contains three cycles. Each cycle is divided into two 4-week intervention including individualized decoction and fixed decoction (control). The primary outcome was patient self-reported symptoms scores on a 1–7 point Likert scale. Secondary outcomes were 24-hour sputum volume and CAT scores. Results. Among 14 completed trials, five showed that the individualized decoction was statistically better than the control decoction on symptom scores (P<0.05) but was not clinically significant. The group data of all the trials showed that individualized decoction was superior to control decoction on symptom scores (2.13±0.58 versus 2.30±0.65, P=0.002, mean difference and 95% CI: 0.18 (0.10, 0.25)), 24 h sputum volume (P=0.009), and CAT scores (9.69±4.89 versus 11.64±5.59, P=0.013, mean difference and 95% CI: 1.95 (1.04, 2.86)) but not clinically significant. Conclusion. Optimizing the combined analysis of individual and group data and the improvement of statistical models may make contribution in establishing a method of evaluating clinical efficacy in line with the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine individual diagnosis and treatment.

At present, there is no consistent understanding of the effect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription in the prevention of the deep vein thrombosis (DVT), though TCM has been widely used in China. To evaluate the efficacy of TCM prescription combined with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) for preventing DVT after major orthopedics surgery. All the retrieved articles were evaluated using specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then, data were extracted and evaluated for inclusion in a randomized controlled trial. In this study, variables included relative risk (RR), mean difference (MD), and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Overall, 16 articles were included with 1538 patients, 768 in the combination group (combination of TCM prescription and LMWH) and 770 in the LMWH group. The results indicated that in the combination group, the incidence of DVT (RR: 0.34, 95% CI: 0.23-0.50, P < .00001) and d-dimer levels (standardized mean difference: −1.19, 95% CI: −1.80 to −0.58, P = .0001) was significantly lower than that in the LMWH group. Furthermore, the combination treatment obviously decreased the concentration of fibrinogen (MD: −1.19, 95% CI: −2.13 to −0.25, P = .01). The combination of TCM prescription and LMWH could significantly reduce the incidence of DVT, suggesting that it may be a more effective prophylaxis measure for DVT after major orthopedics surgery.

Recently, an important topic of liver tumorigenesis had been published in 2013. In this report, Ras and Rho had defined the relation of liver tumorigenesis. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) database has been screened for molecular compounds by simulating molecular docking and molecular dynamics to regulate Ras and liver tumorigenesis. Saussureamine C, S-allylmercaptocysteine, and Tryptophan are selected based on the highest docking score than other TCM compounds. The molecular dynamics are helpful in the analysis and detection of protein-ligand interactions. Based on the docking poses, hydrophobic interactions, and hydrogen bond variations, this research surmises are the main regions of important amino acids in Ras. In addition to the detection of TCM compound efficacy, we suggest Saussureamine C is better than the others for protein-ligand interaction.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a unique set of therapeutic methods for plagues. COVID-19 is a severe type of pneumonia caused by a new coronavirus, which manifests in fever, cough, headache, fatigue, difficulty breathing, and other symptoms. TCM has fully displayed its advantages of various approaches in this epidemic, including herbal decoction, patent herbs, aroma packets, acupuncture, massage, etc. These methods have played an essential role in the prevention, treatment, and nursing of COVID-19, not only in alleviating the early clinical symptoms of patients but reducing the progression from mild to severe symptoms. Thanks to the advantages of treating the pandemic, we should pay more attention to TCM modalities.

Abstract Background: Characteristics of registered systematic reviews (SRs) on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remain unclear. This study aimed to analyze research collaboration, interventions, and outcomes in registered SRs of TCM associated with COVID-19.Methods: PROSPERO was searched to obtain SRs of TCM related to COVID-19 up to July 1, 2020. VOSviewer 1.6.14 software was used to generate network maps for countries, institutions, and provinces.Results: A total of 80 SRs were included, which were registered by 81 institutions from 6 countries. China (76, 95.00%) was the country with the highest output. 21 provinces in China contributed to the registration of SRs, Sichuan (25, 30.12%), Beijing (13, 15.66%), and Shaanxi (7, 8.43%) were the top three productive provinces. The top three productive institutions were Chengdu University of traditional Chinese medicine (18, 24.66%), Shaanxi University of traditional Chinese medicine (7, 9.59%), and Beijing University of traditional Chinese medicine (6, 8.22%). Collaborations among countries, provinces, and institutions were sparse. Interventions investigated included traditional Chinese medicine, integrated Chinese and Western medicine, acupuncture, and Taijiquan, but the description was brief, and no specific implementation plan was provided. The most frequently used primary outcome was clinical efficiency (45, 56.25%), and the most frequently used secondary outcome was the adverse event (50, 62.5%). The expression of the outcomes was not standardized.Conclusions: Although there were some collaborations between provinces and institutions, cooperation between countries should be further strengthened. The identified deficiencies in interventions and outcomes should be given more attention by future researchers.

Background. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is an empirical medical system and has its own diagnosis and treatment method. The syndrome elements are atoms to modern TCM diagnosis proposed by Professor Zhu Wenfeng. Researching and analyzing the syndrome element system is one of the active issues for TCM research. At present, most related researches focus on the correlativity and hierarchical relationship of the diseases and symptoms, but the causality researches between syndrome elements themselves have not been reported so far. Methods. To explore the causality between syndrome elements, a method named causality by attribute topology (CAT) is proposed. Based on the subordinate relations in attribute topology, the inference method analyzes and reasons the dependency relationship between the sets of objects which contain attributes. Through the removal of attributes in the attribute topology, the formal context is updated constantly. Thus, the causal relationship among the attributes is deduced. In this method, 500 records are mathematically transferred to a binary context for syndrome element analysis. Through the analysis and verification of the potential causal relationship between the syndrome elements, knowledge discovery of the diagnostic data of traditional Chinese medicine based on attribute topology structure diagram is conducted. Results. This paper has verified the causal transformation between these syndrome elements. The experimental results between the female group data and the male group data show that different genders have different characteristics and relations of syndrome elements. The experimental results are basically consistent with the traditional Chinese medicine theory. Conclusion. The experiment shows that causality by attribute topology (CAT) is feasible to describe the causality between TCM syndrome elements. Further research on possible knowledge discovery in TCM diagnostic data should be conducted through the analysis of the potential causal relationship between TCM diagnostic data and each syndrome element.

Background: To investigate the clinical effect of modified Baihe Gujin Decoction in treatment of cough during pregnancy. Methods: A total of 31 pregnant women with cough were recruited from First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shanghai Qingpu District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February 2016 to June 2020. The patients were treated with modified Baihe Gujin Decoction for two weeks according to their unique symptoms and signs. The cough symptoms were evaluated and the symptom scores were calculated at Day 0 (time of enrollment), Day 7, and Day 14, respectively. Results: Of 31 cases, 4 cases were clinically cured and 24 cases showed marked improvement, with 3 cases showing no improvement. Conclusions: Modified Baihe Gujin Decoction can significantly improve the symptoms of cough during pregnancy.

<p><strong>Objective:</strong> To investigate the clinical effect of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in treating acute cervicitis. <strong>Methods:</strong> 81 cases of patients with acute cervicitis which were treated in our hospital from September 2013 to March 2015 were selected as research objects. According to the method of random sampling, the patients were divided to A group (Integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment), B group (Western medicine treatment) and C group (TCM treatment) with 27 cases in each group.<strong> Results:</strong> The treatment of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine is much easier to get patients’ acceptance and affirmation. Besides that, the clinical effect of feedback is better than the single use of traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine treatment. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> The clinical effect of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in the treatment of acute cervicitis is better than the use of traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine.</p>

Behcet's disease is a vasculitis disease involving multiple systems, and its pathogenesis is still unclear. The paper discusses the research progress on the treatment of Behcet's disease in traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The clinical efficacy of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in the treatment of Behcet's disease is significantly better than that of Western medicine alone, which is worthy of further research.

Objective. To observe the clinical effect of Xiaozheng Decoction combined with bladder perfusion with hydroxycamptothecin in the treatment of bladder cancer. Methods. A total of 92 bladder cancer patients admitted to our hospital from January to December 2018 were selected and divided into an observation group and a control group according to the random number table method, with 46 cases in each group. The observation group was given Xiaozheng Decoction combined with bladder perfusion with hydroxycamptothecin, and the control group was given hydroxycamptothecin. The levels of serum-related factors (intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), E-cadherin, cell adhesion molecules (CAM), fibroblast growth factor (FGF), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)), white blood cell (WBC) level, immune function indexes, short-term total response rate, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results. After 2 years of postoperative treatment, the levels of ICAM-1, E-cadherin, CAM-1, FGF, and VEGF (a, b, c) in both groups were improved compared with those before treatment and the observation group was better than the control group p < 0.01 . The number of WBCs was significantly higher than in the control group after Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment. The observation group was better than the control group in increasing CD3+ and CD4+ levels and decreasing CD8+ level p < 0.05 , indicating that this prescription could improve the immune function of patients. The recurrence rate in the observation group was 6.52% after 2 years of treatment, lower than 17.39% in the control group. Color ultrasound parameters showed that there were no statistically significant differences in arrive time (AT) and time to peak (TTP) between patients with and without recurrence and peak intensity (PI) and washout time (WT) were higher in patients with recurrence than in patients without recurrence p < 0.01 . The incidence of adverse reactions was significantly lower than that of the control group p < 0.01 . Conclusion. The clinical effect of Xiaozheng Decoction combined with hydroxycamptothecin on the treatment of bladder cancer was clear and superior to that of hydroxycamptothecin, which could effectively improve the serological indicators of patients with a low incidence of adverse reactions and prolong the survival cycle of patients. Therefore, it is worthy of promotion and application.
