The current tracking control strategy determines the compensation performance of shunt active power filter (SAPF). Due to inadequate compensation of the main harmonic by traditional proportional integral (PI) control, a control algorithm based on PI and multi vector resonant (VR) controllers is proposed to control SAPF. The mathematical model of SAPF is built, and basic principle of VR controller is introduced. Under the synchronous reference frame, the proposed control method based on pole zero cancellation is designed, which narrows the order of the control system and improves the system dynamic response and the control accuracy. Then the feasibility of the method is demonstrated by analyzing the closed loop frequency characteristics of the system. Finally, the simulation and experimental results are carried out to verify the performance of the proposed method.

The quality of power nowadays is of great concern due to increasing demand of supply and energy resources are limited, another cause is increasing penetration of nonlinear loads in the power system. In order to overcome energy supply challenges, the focus of technologists is shifting to the renewable energy side such as the wind and solar energy and so on. As such, mitigating effect of nonlinear loads have become ever important as well. In this context, various techniques have been used by researchers in past decades. Shunt active power filter (APF) have long been used to mitigate current harmonics from fixed wind turbine generator (WTG). In this study shunt APF has been applied with variable speed WTG using synchronous reference frame (SRF) for the extraction of compensation signal for APF. Gate driver signals are generated from Bang-Bang Controller (Hysteresis Band Current Controller HBCC). A MATLAB/SIMULINK based Model have been developed. The Simulation results show decreased THD levels of the system and clearly suggest the effectiveness of Shunt APF in meeting the IEEE-519 standard recommendation for harmonic levels in WTG.

This paper presents the use of a three-phase four-wire shunt active power filter to improve the power quality in the Department of Industrial Electronics of a large enterprise from Romania. The specificity is given by the predominant existence of single-phase consumers (such as personal computers, printers, lighting and AC equipment). In order to identify the power quality indicators and ways to improve them, an A-class analyzer was used to record the electrical quantities and energy parameters in the point of common coupling (PCC) with the nonlinear loads for 27 h. The analysis shows that, in order to improve the power quality in PCC, three goals must be achieved: the compensation of the distortion power, the compensation of the reactive power and the compensation of the load unbalance. By using the conceived three-leg shunt active power filter, controlled through the indirect current control method in an original variant, the power quality at the supply side is very much improved. In the proposed control algorithm, the prescribed active current is obtained as a sum of the loss current provided by the DC voltage and the equivalent active current of the unbalanced load. The performance associated with each objective of the compensation is presented and analyzed. The results show that all the power quality indicators meet the specific standards and regulations and prove the validity of the proposed solution.

This paper targets to demonstrate the importance of the choice of the algorithm references detection to be applied with a double fuzzy PI corrector (DFPI) for the control and the regulation of a shunt active power filter (SAPF) DC bus voltage. In a previous work, the synchronous reference frame (SRF) algorithm was applied and gave satisfactory results. In the present paper, the SRF is substituted by the positive sequence of the fundamental of the source voltage algorithm (PSF) which offered better results regarding the power quality of the considered main utility feeding a variable DC RL load throughout a diode bridge. The results were carried out using computer simulation perfomed under MATLAB/Simulink environment. To make the obtained results more convenient, a comparison between the couples (SRF, PI), (PSF, PI), (SRF, DFPI), (PSF, DFPI) is added to prove the effectiveness of the couple (PSF, DFPI) in satisfying the compromise between a good regulation of the SAPF DC bus voltage and a good quality of filtering resulting in an improved quality of power.

This paper proposes a nonlinear Lyapunov-based control method of the single-phase shunt active power filter (APF). The system is modeled firstly and then the compensated current of the APF is calculated. The energetic like Lyapunov function is constructed and the control output is determined through ensuring the differential of the Lyapunov function negative, which grantee the convergence of the APF system. Considering that the time-varying load may cause greater fluctuations in DC voltage, an average value is used to calculate the control output. A globally stable control is possible and it is insensitive to the parameter uncertainties and robustness to the disturbances. Simulation results are obtained using Matlab/ Simulink. These results verify the correct operation of the proposed control method.
