Learning disabilities (LD) can be associated with problems in the four stages of information processing used in learning: input, throughput, output, and feedback. These problems affect the child’s ability to learn and perform activities in daily life, especially during academic activities. This study is a pilot study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of information processing strategy training using a combination of two approaches that address the ability to apply processing strategies during academic activities in children with LD. The two approaches are the Perceive, Recall, Plan, and Perform (PRPP) System of Intervention, which is a strategy training intervention, and the Four-Quadrant Model (4QM) of Facilitated Learning approach, which is a systematic facilitator technique. Twenty children with LD were assigned to two groups: the experimental group (n=10) and the control group (n=10). Children in the experimental group received the intervention twice a week for 6 consecutive weeks. Each treatment session took approximately 50 minutes. Children in the control group received traditional intervention twice a week for 6 consecutive weeks. The results indicated that the combination of the PRPP System of Intervention and the 4QM may improve the participants’ ability to apply information processing strategies during academic activities.

This pilot study is a mixed-methods sequential explanatory study that investigated the effects of watching text-relevant video segments supported by the Schematic Information-Processing (SIP) model of reading comprehension on reading comprehension of adult speakers of English as a Second Language (ESL) in terms of text familiarity and the retention of the content of a culturally unfamiliar text. Twenty homogeneous participants were randomly assigned to two groups: one control group and one experimental group. The results of the quantitative analysis showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in both the immediate and delayed post-tests. Qualitative findings also highlight the effectiveness of implementing text-relevant video segments supported by the SIP model over traditional text-based reading instruction in terms of reading comprehension and retention of the content of the culturally unfamiliar passage. Limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are discussed in detail.

The aim of the research is to investigate the effect of idea gardens on the performance and information processing skills of high school students in mathematics. The research community represents the school's first graders, July 14th for girls. The research sample consisted of (70) male and female students. The number of students in the experimental group was (35) and the number of students in the control group was (35). The researcher found a relationship between the two in variables of IQ test, previous collection and life expectancy, measured in months, in information processing skills of the tribes. The researcher has prepared a collection of tests with (20) paragraphs. After being presented to a group of judges, the validity of the test was verified. The researcher also developed an information processing measure consisting of (20) paragraphs and extracted the obvious honesty by presenting it to a group of reviewers and extracting it in the form way to repeat the test (0.87). The researcher has achieved the following results: 1- There were statistically significant differences in favor of the experimental group, which studied the gardens of ideas, compared with the control group, which studied the conventional collection method. 2- There are statistically significant differences in favor of the experimental group studied using idea gardens versus members of the control group studied using conventional information processing Keywords: Gardens of Ideas, Collection, Mathematics

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of memory strategies (MSs)in improving students' ability to recall and spell newly learned vocabulary items. The researcheronly considered three types of MSs: grouping, placing new words in to a context and structuredreviewing. In addition, the study used a questionnaire that explored students' attitudes towardsMSs in general, and towards the specific MSs that they have been trained to use, as well as therelationship between MSs and motivation and between MSs and anxiety. intact groups (63 students in total) were selected from level three of the College of Languages and Translation (COLT) at King Saud University (KSU), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The two groups were assigned to the experimental group (36 students) and the control group(27students). The control group received traditional instruction that depended on the textbook without any MS training, whereas the experimental group received a combination of traditional instruction and MS training. A pre- and post-test were administered to both groups before and after the experiment to examine students' ability to recall the meaning of vocabulary items and their ability to spell them correctly. The experiment lasted for fourteen weeks through which the participants received seven MS training sessions. The study found out that MS training was effective in improving students' ability to recall the meaning of vocabulary items when needed and their ability to spell them correctly. Moreover, the results showed that the subjects of the experimental group showed positive attitude towards MSs and most of them agreed on the positive effect that MSs had on raising their motivation and reducing their anxiety while learning vocabulary.

This paper reviewed the literature of the previous research and questionnaire survey on reading strategy. Based on theories of psycholinguistics, a five-week experiment was carried out in order to probe into the effectiveness of strategy training. The experiment was designed to answer the following question: Can reading comprehension be improved by strategy training? Two groups of subjects from non-English majors participated in the experiment and questionnaire survey. Experimental group received training on reading strategies while control group didn’t. By comparing the results of the pretest and posttest of the two groups, the effectiveness of strategy training was examined. The results of data analysis indicated that both efficient and non-efficient readers use strategies to facilitate their reading and there was no significant difference between them with regard to strategy use in general, but some strategies were especially favored by the efficient readers and that reading competence could be improved by strategy training.

BACKGROUND Mobile health technologies have been found to improve the self-management of chronic diseases. However, there is limited research regarding their feasibility in supporting recovery from substance use disorders (SUDs) in China. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to examine the feasibility of a mobile phone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) app by testing the concordance of drug use assessed by the EMA, urine testing, and a life experience timeline (LET) assessment. METHODS A total of 75 participants dependent on heroin or amphetamine-type stimulant (ATS) in Shanghai were recruited to participate in a 4-week pilot study. Of the participants, 50 (67% [50/75]) were randomly assigned to the experimental group and 25 (33% [25/75]) were assigned to the control group. The experimental group used mobile health (mHealth) based EMA technology to assess their daily drug use in natural environments and received 2 short health messages each day, whereas the control group only received 2 short health messages each day from the app. Urine tests and LET assessments were conducted each week and a post-intervention survey was administered to both groups. The correlations among the EMA, the LET assessment, and the urine test were investigated. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 41.6 (SD 8.0) years, and 71% (53/75) were male. During the 4 weeks of observation, 690 daily EMA survey data were recorded, with a response rate of 49.29% (690/1400). With respect to drug use, the percent of agreement between the EMA and the LET was 66.7%, 79.2%, 72.4%, and 85.8%, respectively, for each of the 4 weeks, whereas the percent of agreement between the EMA and the urine test was 51.2%, 65.1%, 61.9%, and 71.5%, respectively. The post-intervention survey indicated that 46% (32/70) of the participants preferred face-to-face interviews rather than the mHealth app. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated poor agreement between the EMA data and the LET and found that the acceptance of mHealth among individuals with SUDs in China was not positive. Hence, greater efforts are needed to improve the feasibility of mHealth in China.

Abstract Background: Patient safety is a top priority of the health professions. In emergency departments, the clinical decision making of triage nurses must be of the highest reliability. However, studies have repeatedly found that nurses over- or undertriage a considerable portion of cases, which can have major consequences for patient management. Among the factors that might explain this inaccuracy, workplace distractors have been pointed to without ever being the focus of specific investigation, owing in particular to the challenge of assessing them in care settings. Consequently, the use of a serious game reproducing a work environment comprising distractors would afford a unique opportunity to explore their impact on the quality of nurse emergency triage. Methods/Design : A factorial design will be used to test the acceptability and feasibility of a serious game created to explore the primary effects of distractors on emergency nurse triage accuracy. A sample of 80 emergency nurses will be randomised across three experimental groups exposed to different distractor conditions and one control group not exposed to distractors. Specifically, experimental group A will be exposed to noise distractors only; experimental group B to task interruptions only; and experimental group C to both types combined. Each group will engage in the serious game to complete 20 clinical vignettes in two hours. For each clinical vignette, a gold standard will be determined by experts. Pre-tests will be planned with clinicians and specialised emergency nurses to examine their interaction with the first version of the serious game. Discussion : This study will shed light on the acceptability and feasibility of a serious game in the field of emergency triage. It will also advance knowledge of the possible effects of exposure to common environmental distractors on nurse triage accuracy. Finally, this pilot study will inform planned large-scale studies of emergency nurse practice using serious games.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of using the Multi-Sensory Approach for teaching students with learning disabilities on the sixth grade students' achievement in mathematics at Jordanian public schools. To achieve the purpose of the study, a pre/post-test was constructed to measure students' achievement in mathematics. The test consisted of twenty items on mathematics. The sample of the study comprised (117) sixth grade students in Ruqaya bent Al Rasoul School for girls and Fatima bent el Yaman school for girls in Irbid the first directorate of Education and was distributed into four sections, which were selected purposefully. The sample of the study was divided into four groups (two experimental and two control groups). The experimental group was taught using multi-sensory approach while the control group was taught using the current approach. The sample of the study was (62) students in the experimental group and (55) students in the control group. Those groups were distributed into four purposefully selected sections in Ruqaya bent Al Rasoul School for girls and Fatima bent el Yaman school for girls in Irbid the first directorate of Education. Descriptive statistical analyses were used (Means and Standard Deviation) for the pre and post- tests of students' mathematics test to experimental and control groups. The findings of the study indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the post- test between the control and the experimental groups in favor of the experimental group. The researcher proposed some recommendations to enhance the importance of parental involvement on students' achievement in English language such as conducting further studies on other populations and for a longer time.

This study explored the effect of active learning on developing imagination skills among students with learning disabilities in English language in Irbid city, Jordan. The study used the experimental approach and was applied to a sample of 60 female and male students, who were chosen purposefully. The sample was divided into two groups, an experimental, which was taught using the active learning method, and a control group, which was taught according to the traditional method. The results revealed the existence of significant differences between the performance of the experimental group and the control group on the post-imagination test in favor of the experimental group. The findings also showed statistically significant differences between the scores of the two study groups on the post-imagination test due to the gender variable, and the difference was in favor of males. In light of the findings of the study, the researcher recommended preparing training programs on active learning and preparing a guide for teachers, which can be used to teach and learn reading, writing, and imagination skills in the basic stage.

Little is known about the effects of self-managed relaxation interventions on pain, stress, and autonomic responses in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). This pre-post randomized controlled pilot study was conducted to determine the feasibility of using computer tablets for relaxation intervention delivery; acceptability of study procedures; and intervention effects on pain, stress, and indicators of relaxation. The 30 research participants ranged in age from 22 years to 59 years. All were African American; 53% were male. They were randomized to an experimental group that watched a relaxation video or a control group that discussed their disease. All participants completed the study, indicating feasibility. Acceptability rates were also high. Data were obtained for the intervention’s immediate effect on pain, stress, respiration, pulse, finger skin temperature, and self-reported relaxation. These preliminary findings will guide future, higher-powered studies to determine the intervention’s efficacy and mechanism in SCD. The ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02729363
