In order to reduce the impact of highway traffic accidents on surrounding road networks, accident influence area should be determined reasonably. According to the relationship between vehicle bypass decision-making index and threshold under accident condition, the vehicles’ route choice behavior at upstream of the accident spot can be divided into two types: bypass and nonbypass. Under nonbypass condition, the method of using traffic wave theory was put forward to determine the upstream influence area. Under bypass condition, the total number of bypass vehicles is determined based on bypass decision-making index being greater than bypass threshold. Assignment algorithms based on routes were proposed. Using improved Logit model to get the selection probability and the traffic flow of each route, then traffic flow of surrounding links could be obtained. At last, the road network influenced by the accident could be determined by comparing with the level of service of each link under normal condition. The paper takes Beijing-Kunming highway as an example, and the results show that the road network formed by the influenced links was highway traffic accident influence area. Comparing with the actual survey results, correctness of the calculation method is verified. Therefore, the analytical method based on bypass decision-making is applicable to determining highway accident influence area.

The article analyses the data on road traffic accidents in Lithuanian main and interurban road networks in the years 2002–2006. The road network is divided into 341 road sections. The surrounding area and road parameters of each of the sections are measured. Then, the dependence of traffic accident rate on the parameters is studied and described using linear and multiple regressions. The equations are built using 90% of the available data and tested forecasting traffic accident rate for the rest of 10% of the data comparing the obtained results with the real data.

At present, China is in a period of steady development of highways. At the same time, traffic safety issues are becoming increasingly serious. Data mining technology is an effective method for analysing traffic accidents. In-depth information mining of traffic accident data is conducive to accident prevention and traffic safety management. Based on the data of Wenli highway traffic accidents from 2006 to 2013, this study selected factors including time factor, linear factor and driver characteristics as research indicators, and established the decision tree using C4.5 algorithm in WEKA to explore the impact of various factors on the accident. According to the degree of contribution of each variable to the classification effect of the model, various modes affecting the type of the accident are obtained and the overall prediction accuracy is about 80%.

Abstract The highest number of road accidents occurs at junctions. One of the aims of traffic organisation is to improve traffic safety in these areas. Based on a variety of indices – road capacity, points of conflict, number, and severity of road traffic accidents – different alternatives for junctions are evaluated. However, the road network has many junctions and roads serve to travel from point "A" to point "B" at a given time. Therefore, one of the most important tasks when addressing the issue of road safety is to find a rational way of improving the safety without losing the importance of the road. The aim of this paper is to analyse the impact of different junctions on the road network and basing on actual data develop a method for the evaluation of different types of junctions with respect to road class.

In this paper, the traffic area of subzone division in urban road network is studied and a subzone division method based on the combination of static partition and dynamic partition is proposed. The static partition is carried out for the road network when the traffic flow is in a noncongested state, so as to provide the decision-making basis for the traffic green wave signal control strategy. At the same time, aiming at the road network when the traffic flow is congested, the dynamic partition is carried out on the basis of static partition to provide the decision-making basis for the traffic maximum flow signal control strategy. In view of the fact that it is difficult to determine the clustering center point during the initial division, this method proposes to determine the clustering center point according to the value of nodes of betweenness centrality. In order to solve the problem that it is difficult to collect traffic data, a method for estimating traffic flow density is proposed. In order to solve the problem of normalization of different probability distribution among various parameters, Mahalanobis distance is used as the fusion index of subzone division. Model verification shows that the method is feasible and effective.

Automated vehicles (AVs) are believed to have great potential to improve the traffic capacity and efficiency of the current transport systems. Despite positive findings of the impact of AVs on traffic flow and potential road capacity increase for highways, few studies have been performed regarding the impact of AVs on urban roads. Moreover, studies considering traffic volume increase with a mixture of AVs and human-driven vehicles (HDVs) have rarely been conducted. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of gradual increments of AV penetration and traffic volume on urban roads. The study adopted a microsimulation approach using VISSIM with a Wiedmann 74 model for car-following behavior. Parameters for AVs were set at the SAE level 4 of automation. A real road network was chosen for the simulation having 13 intersections in a total distance of 4.5 km. The road network had various numbers of lanes from a single lane to five lanes in one direction. The network consists of a main arterial road and a parallel road serving nearby commercial and residential blocks. In total, 36 scenarios were investigated by a combination of AV penetrations and an increase in traffic volumes. The study found that, as AV penetration increased, traffic flow also improved, with a reduction of the average delay time of up to 31%. Also, as expected, links with three or four lanes had a more significant impact on the delay. In terms of road capacity increase, when the penetration of AVs was saturated at 100%, the road network could accommodate 40% more traffic.

According to the traffic flow variation from January 2019 to August 2020, emissions of primary air pollutants from highway vehicles were calculated based on the emission factor method, which integrated the actual structure of on-road vehicles. The characteristics of on-highway traffic flow and pollution emissions were compared during various progression stages of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The results showed that the average daily traffic volume decreased by 38.2% in 2020, with a decrease of 62% during the strict lockdown due to the impact of COVID-19. The daily emissions of primary atmospheric pollutants decreased by 29.2% in 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. As for the structure of on-highway vehicle types, the small and medium-sized passenger vehicles predominated, which accounted for 76.3% of traffic, while trucks and large passenger vehicles accounted for 19.7% and 4.0%, but contributed 58.4% and 33.9% of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, respectively. According to the simulation results of the ADMS model, the average concentrations of NOx were reduced by 12.0 µg/m3 compared with the same period in 2019. As for the implication for future pollution control, it is necessary to further optimize the structure of on-highway and the road traffic vehicle types and increase the proportions of new-energy vehicles and vehicles with high emission standards.

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the impact of Janti Flyover Construction toward the growth of layout at Janti Urban Area, including structured space, open space, and linkage. Method used for data collecting are observation, air photograph monitoring, and interview, whereas the analysis method is qualitative description, which is the superimposed method of two layers, that are the layout condition before and after flyover construction. The result shows that the impact of Janti Flyover construction can be seen on building mass (solid), the increasing number of open spaces, including the road network, parking place, and park, whereas the relation between spaces, visually and structurally, can be seen on the growth of buildings which have new shapes and styles, therefore the performance of the overall building does not have a proportional shape. Considering Janti Street at the collective relation, its role is getting stronger as the main frame road network. Keywords: Flyover construction, layout changing, Janti AreaAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pembangunan Jalan Layang Janti terhadap perkembangan tata ruang Kawasan Janti, meliputi ruang terbangun, ruang terbuka, serta hubungan antar ruang (“linkage”). In all kinds of traffic accidents, the unconscious departure of the vehicle from the lane is one of the most important reasons leading to the occurrence of these accidents. In view of the specific problem of lane departure, a lane departure decision-making method is established without calibration relying on the Kalman filtering fuzzy logic algorithm, according to the characteristics of expressway lanes, based on the machine vision and hearing fusion analysis of lane departure, integrating the extraction of the linear lane line model and the region of interest (ROI) in this paper to judge the degree of vehicle departure from the lane by integrating the slope values of the 2 lane lines in the road image. The results show that the system has good lane recognition capabilities and accurate departure decision-making capabilities, and meet the lane departure warning requirements in the expressway environment.
