The noise effects on a homeostatic regulation of sleep-wake cycles’ neuronal mathematical model determined by the hypocretin/orexin and the local glutamate interneurons spatiotemporal behaviors are studied within the neighborhood of stimulus threshold in this work; the neuronal noise added to the stimulus, the conductance, and the activation variable of the modulation function are investigated, respectively, based on a circadian input skewed in sine function. The computer simulation results suggested that the increased amplitude of external current input will lead to the fact that awakening time is advanced but the sleepy time remains the same; for the bigger conductance and modulation noise, the regulatory mechanism of the model sometimes will be collapsed and the coupled two neurons of the model show very irregular activities; the falling asleep or wake transform appears at nondeterminate time.

Simulations of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) include modelling of thermal and electrical behaviour of the limiter. In this paper the mathematical model for the analysis of thermoelectrical processes in resistive superconducting fault current limiter for microelectronics devices protection is presented. An effective and fast halfanalytical computer simulation of the model is presented. Simulation results are presented.

Abstract.Many studies have been done on the respiratory and the cardiovascular system. Among them, only a few are on the interaction of these two physiologic systems. To explore the mechanism of the integration of these two physiological systems, computer simulation has been done; we report the preliminary results obtained in our laboratory. In this study, a mathematical model of the cardiovascular system integrated with the respiratory mechanical system has been established. The model is based on our previous work on cardiovascular modeling. The previous lumped lungi model has been replaced by a multielement model with more detail. Inter- thoracic and abdominal pressures are modeled as external pressure sources on the related cardiovascular elements. Using this model, a sequence of simulation studies have been carried out. Different respiratory modes have been simulated and the different effects are observed in the simulation results. The results indicate that by following a certain respiratory pattern, the circulation status can be improved. Aiming at the problem of long time power interruption and clutch master-slave friction plates wore seriously which greatly shorten the life of clutch during shifting process of AMT, a overrunning AMT without separation process of clutch when shifting is designed. This paper has analyzed structural characteristics and shift principle of overrunning AMT. Through force analysis on the jointing process of roller overrunning clutch, the mathematical model and dynamic model of transmission system are established. Finally, the shifting impact of shifting process is analyzed based on computer simulation. The simulation results indicate that vehicle longitudinal degree of jerk meets the requirement of vehicle comfort.

It is known that vibratory feeders are the most versatile of all hopper feeding devices for small engineering parts and play a key role in assembly automation. This work develops a mathematical model of the part motion in vibratory feeding, from which how the part works can be better known. A computer simulation programmed with MATLAB has been made to predict the conveying velocity of the parts in vibration feeding system, and furthermore, experiments have been carried out for verification purpose. The experimental results show that the simulation results are reasonable, and hence can be used to improve the design of vibratory feeding system.

A mathematical model of the human respiratory system is being developed in order to simulate manned diving operations using various types of breathing equipment. A simulation study is presented of a human diving to a depth of 50 m, using a semi-closed re-breathing system with two different oxygen flow settings. A gas supply with 32.5 per cent oxygen concentration results in a safe dive whereas a 60 per cent setting indicates a dangerous diving condition. Typical respiratory model input data are illustrated for the lung, together with dimensional details for the re-breathing counterlung. The simulation results show variations in alveolar and pleural pressures, gas concentrations and partial pressures in the equipment and in the human respiratory system.

A mathematical model of amperometric biosensors has been developed to simulate the biosensor response in stirred as well as non stirred solution. The model involves three regions: the enzyme layer where enzyme reaction as well as mass transport by diffusion takes place, a diffusion limiting region where only the diffusion takes place, and a convective region, where the analyte concentration is maintained constant. Using computer simulation the influence of the thickness of the enzyme layer as well the diffusion one on the biosensor response was investigated. The computer simulation was carried out using the finite difference technique.

A need exists for tools to improve evaluations of the economics of landfill gas recovery. A computer simulation tool is presented. It uses a spreadsheet computer program to calculate the economics for a fixed set of inputs, and a simulation program to consider variations in the inputs. The method calculates the methane generated each year, and estimates the costs and incomes associated with the recovery and sale of the gas. Base case results are presented for a city of 500,000. An uncertainty analysis for a hypothetical case is presented. The simulation results can help an analyst see the key variables affecting the economics of a project.

Firstly, according to the structure characteristics of precision centrifuge, the mathematical model of its dynamic balancing system was set up, and the dynamic balancing scheme of double test surfaces, double emendation surfaces were established. Then the dynamic balance system controller of precision centrifuge was designed. Simulation results show that the controller designed can completely meet the requirements of precision centrifuge dynamic balance control system.
