We consider the distance-based registration (DBR) which is a kind of dynamic location registration scheme in a mobile communication network. In the DBR, the location of a mobile station (MS) is updated when it enters a base station more than or equal to a specified distance away from the base station where the location registration for the MS was done last. In this study, we first investigate the existing performance-evaluation methods on the DBR with implicit registration (DBIR) presented to improve the performance of the DBR and point out some problems of the evaluation methods. We propose a new performance-evaluation method for the DBIR scheme using a semi-Markov process (SMP) which can resolve the controversial issues of the existing methods. The numerical results obtained with the proposed SMP model are compared with those from previous models. It is shown that the SMP model should be considered to get an accurate performance of the DBIR scheme.

Abstract Introduction: Crosswords have been used to complement medical education in a fun way, yet they were not used as a method for the evaluation of students' performance. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the development of crosswords and verify their validity as a method of performance evaluation in embryology. Materials and Methods: We used crossword based on subjects about stages of embryonic development with different levels of difficulty. To validate the crossword as the evaluation method of teaching, two evaluation methods were applied (the traditional and with crosswords, simultaneously) on students of Federal University of Piaui. The performance of students was analyzed with Pearson's correlation coefficient and data were analyzed to check for normal distribution through the Shapiro-Wilk test with significance level of 0.05. The tests were performed on the BioEstat statistical software version 5.0. Results: As result a total of 28 students were evaluated. It was observed that the resulting score of both the traditional and crossword evaluation methods demonstrating normal distribution (p=0.4127 and p=0.7016, respectively), did not present vices and tendencies. The average scores were 7.1 ± 2.0 and 6.9 ± 1.7 for the traditional and crossword evaluation methods, respectively, showing statistically significant difference (p=0.0001; r=0.67), demonstrating a moderate Pearson's correlation between the methods. Conclusion: In conclusion, crosswords may be used as supplementary material for teaching embryology. Also, crossword functioned as validated and reproducible method of performance evaluation that can be used in as alternative and/or complementary teaching of embryology or other disciplines in the medical ield.

Due to its outstanding performance and merits, Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) has attracted a wide attention from scientists, researchers and engineers all over the world. At present, many research activities have been conducted in developing and evaluating SCC and its related technologies. However, existing performance evaluation methods of are mostly limited in the field of material, while structure performance evaluation methods of SCC are rarely reported. As we all known, the lifetime of the SCC structure is mainly subject to its material, structural and durability performances as a whole. Undoubtedly, it is crucial for us to study and develop a sound structural and durability performance evaluation method to complement the existing material performance evaluation methods. As such, the structural and durability performance evaluation method of SCC was studied in this paper.

The main objective of this paper is to investigate the conditional behavior of the multivariate reward process given the number of certain signals where the underlying system is described by a semi-Markov process and the signal is defined by a counting process. To this end, we study the joint behavior of the multivariate reward process and the multivariate counting process in detail. We derive transform results as well as the corresponding real domain expressions, thus providing clear probabilistic interpretation.

The paper proposes an ideal approach of shape design by using shape evaluation methods accurately. The paper proposes and tests the comprehensive fuzzy evaluation method using a case of two clips based on genetic algorithm and quantitative methods. By using this evaluation method, the shape details of a product could be improved gradually.
