Noise pollution has been given more attention due to its negative impacts on human health and disease. The portable low-frequency noise reduction device we developed in this research can provide an effective way for solving low-frequency noise pollution problem in the small space. This work describes the design principle and the prototype structures for two versions of V1.5 and V2.0 and builds the noise test systems for small spaces, respectively. These devices, installed on the outer surface of the small spaces, can automatically identify the noise spectrum and implement noise reduction by means of the active noise control (ANC) technology. The testing results indicate that the noise can be reduced 12 dB in the range of 250 Hz~400 Hz for the small closed space while, for the small open space, the best effect of 5.88 dB occurs in the optimal frequency of 450 Hz. These effects will be weakened with the increasing distance away from the source and show the obvious axisymmetric distribution in the inverted cone space.

Active noise control (ANC) technology can be able to reduce the low frequency noise effectively, and has been widely applied in limited enclosed equipment, such as cars, aircraft cockpits, and headphones, etc. Compared with the traditional noise reduction methods, ANC technology is a cost-effective method in handling the low-frequency noise of transformers. An experimental ANC system in a virtual substation is designed and constructed. An adaptive signal tracking ANC algorithm is proposed, and a set of ANC experimental prototypes applied to a virtual substation is designed. Based on the proposed algorithm, the distributions of the acoustics and spectral characteristics of transformer noise in substations are analyzed. Experimental results show that the effective noise reduction can be achieved an average of 5 dB(A) in a given region with respect to the absence of the ANC system.

Increased level of automobile low-frequency noise may cause significant environmental pollution, driver and passenger discomfort etc. For automobile equipped with internal combustion engine forming of either internal or external noise is mainly caused by engine operation. Approaches to automobile low-frequency noise reduction are suggested using active noise control method. The different variants of principal schemes and constructions of electronic units of forming required vibroacoustic characteristic of active noise control system were developed by the author either for complex noise reduction of experimental unit or for investigation of the separate noise sources reduction. Intercommunication of engine compartment and passenger compartment and coherent low-frequency sound radiation by air-suctioning pipe and exhaust pipe are taking into consideration. Construction of active noise control unit designed by author for complex reduction of exhaust and intake engine low-frequency noise is described. The results described in this paper may be useful for further development and application of constructions of active noise control systems as for efficient complex engine noise reduction or for reduction of the separate automobile engine noise sources.
