The city of Curitiba, located at Southern Brazil, is recognized by its urban planning structured on three pillars: land use, collective transportation, and traffic. With 3.8 million people in its metropolitan area, the public transport system deals with approximately 2.5 million passengers daily. The structure and properties of such a transportation system have substantial implications for the urban planning and public politics for sustainable development of Curitiba. Therefore, this paper analyzes the structure of the public transportation system of Curitiba through the theory of complex networks in a static approach of network topology and presents a comparative analysis of the results from Curitiba, three cities from China (Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou), and three cities from Poland (GOP, Warszawa, and Łódź). The transportation network was modeled as a complex network with exact geographical coordinates of its bus stops. In all bus lines, the method used was the P-Space. The results show that this bus network has characteristics of both small-world and scale-free networks.

The public transport infrastructure of a city is one of the most important indicators of its economic growth and development. Here we study the public transport network of Shenyang, which represents Chinese domestic civil public transport infrastructure, as a complex network. We find that the public transport system of Shenyang, a network of public transportation routes connected by bus links, is a small-world network characterized by a Poisson degree distribution. We investigate the public transport network as a complex network to explore its topological properties. Simulation results show that the public transport network exhibits small world behavior.

The spatial and economic growth of cities and regions is heavily influenced by transportation. A better knowledge of public transportation will help to clarify the positions of the public and private sectors, as well as recognize the critical government position. To study the problems and issues of the public transportation system, Qasimabad, Hyderabad is selected as a study area due to some serious issues of public transportation. Personal observations and questionnaires were used to gather data from the research area. And for analyzing the data SPSS and MS Excel are used. The results reveal that the existing public transportation system is not meeting the needs of residents. Hence use of private transportation is high and causing environmental and traffic jam problems. As 68% of respondents use a motorbike for recreational purposes, 64% of respondents are not using public transport due to safety factors. In general, 54% of respondents were not satisfied with the service of public transport. As people are willing to use public transport but due to some factors such as safety, they are not using public transport so it is suggested that both vehicles and roads must be safe for users. This study aims to study the existing scenario of public transportation in terms of services and facilities, and people’s perception about public transportation. So it is concluded that people are tending to use public transport but under some certain conditions (factors preventing the use of public transport), if these concerns are solved then public transport system will become more efficient.

Create, maintain and development of public transport network in metropolitan are important problems in the field of urban transport management. In public transport, maximize the efficient use of public fleet capacity has been considered. Concepts and technologies of GIS have provided suitable way for management and optimization of the public transports systems. In demand-responsive public transportation system, firstly fellow traveller groups have been established for applicants based on spatial concepts and tools of GIS, second for each group according to its’ members and their paths, a public vehicle has been allocated to them then based on dynamic routing, the fellow passenger group has been gathered from their origins and has been moved to their destinations through optimal route. The suggested system has been implemented based on network data and commuting trips statistics of 1 to 6 districts in Tehran city. Evaluation performed on the results show the 34% increase using of Taxi capacity, 13% increase using of Van capacity and 10% increase using of Bus capacity in comparison between current public transport system and suggested public transportation system has been improved.

Shortest path plays an important role in the study of complex networks. But in real transportation systems, choosing the shortest path may not be the best way for the drivers. Based on the traffic equilibrium theory, we generalize the concept of shortest path. Flux distribution is also investigated by using the generalized concept on various types of complex networks. We find that the flux differs little in all the edges of lattice while in small-world and scale-free networks, the flux distribution follows a power law, and in the random network, the flux distribution has an exponential tail. We consider lattice may be the optimal topology in design a transportation network.

<div><p><em>Terminal is included in the transportation network system which functions as a place for passengers to take the bus and a place to drop the passengers. Terminal is also the element of </em><em>spatial</em><em> arrangement which influences the structure and system of a town’s movement.</em><em> </em><em>The development of Giri Adipura Terminal in Singodutan Village which was done from 2010 to 2014 is aimed to recover the performance of previous terminal and to develop the surrounding area. Phenomenon which was happened in Giri Adipura Terminal is there were still many passengers who were not utilizing the terminal function and the public transportations were not entering the terminal in order. This research was done to know the performance of Giri Adipura Terminal function in transportation system in Wonogiri Regency. The used research method was quantitative with deductive approach.</em><em> </em><em>The used analysis technique was scoring, by determined the parameter and indicator in each variabel. The result of scoring calculation from the performance of Giri Adipura Terminal function in transportation system in Wonogiri Regency was 9.33. Abstract With the rise of the sharing economy and the concept of “green environmental protection and low-carbon travel”, the emerging project of shared electric vehicles is booming. However, the accompanying coordination problem between shared electric vehicles and public transportation system needs to be urgently solved. In reality, customers’ choice of travel mode is influenced by their own travel perceived utility. Thus, this paper will discuss the competition and coordination problem between shared electric vehicles and public transportation system from the perspective of customer travel utility. Considering the travel cost and comfort in the customer travel utility, the game models of shared electric vehicle and public transport system in different scenarios are established by using competitive game and cooperative game. Then, the equilibrium solutions under different scenarios are obtained by solving the models. The analysis results show that shared electric vehicles would bring some beneficial improvements to the transportation system under certain circumstances. Furthermore, public transportation system should adopt a coordination strategy with the shared electric vehicles to promote the total customer travel utility for the entire system. It is worth considering the improvement of the service quality of shared electric vehicle and public transportation next, which would affect the rate of increasing in the total customer travel utility.

Aiming to facilitate the choice of transport links leading from a starting location to a destination in greater Cairo, we propose in this work a public transportation mobile (android) application to assist users of public transport. The system is a pilot application that considers the public mini-buses network in three areas of Cairo, and builds the database of the mini-bus network verified on the ground. From this database, the transportation network graph consisting of nodes and possible links between them is constructed. Upon request, the system then identifies the series of public transport possible, calculates the shortest path between the two chosen locations, and displays the bus, or series of buses, and the routes to the user, ordered by distance. The specialized algorithm Dijkstra was implemented to find the shortest route.

In this work, we have collected 195 bus routes and 1433 bus stations of Jinan city as sample date to build up the public transit geospatial network model by applying space L method, until May 2014. Then, by analyzing the topological properties of public transit geospatial network model, which include degree and degree distribution, average shortest path length, clustering coefficient and betweenness, we get the conclusion that public transit network is a typical complex network with scale-free and small-world characteristics. Furthermore, in order to analyze the survivability of public transit network, we define new network structure entropy based on betweenness importance, and prove its correctness by giving that the new network structure entropy has the same statistical characteristics with network efficiency. Finally, the "inflexion zone" is discovered, which can be taken as the momentous indicator to determine the public transit network failure.
