Viscosity measurements have been made to the solutions of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in 0.10, 0.20, 0.30, and 0.40 volume fractions of methanol in methanol-water mixed solvent media at 298.15, 308.15, 318.15, and 323.25 K. Critical micelle concentration (CMC) values have been determined. From relative viscosity for surfactant solutions, related viscosityBcoefficients are calculated and the values are interpreted in terms of solute-solvent interactions.

Precise measurements on the specific conductivity of cationic surfactant (Dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide) and anionic surfactant (Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate) in methanol water mixed solvent media containing 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 volume fractions of methanol are reported at 308.15 K. Specific conductivities of Dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide and Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate increase with increase in concentration and decrease with increase in the volume fractions of methanol.  Critical micelle concentration (cmc) increases with increase in volume fraction of methanol in case of both surfactants. Free energy of micellization (ΔGºm) has been calculated. Careful measurements of surface tension and viscosity of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) in presence and absence of KCl in pure water and methanol-water mixed solvent media containing 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 volume fractions of methanol at 308.15 K are reported. The concentration of KCl is 0.01M. The concentration of SDS varies from 4.86×10-3 to 29.56×10-3 mol.l-1. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) increases with increase in percentage of methanol and decreases with addition of salt. Speed of sound, u, of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) aqueous solutions has been determined at 295.15, 302.15 and 309.15 K. The speeds of sound, u, data have been used to estimate isentropic compressibility, Ks, apparent molal isentropic compressibility, φk(s), acoustic impedance, Z, molal sound of speed, Rm, and relative association, RA, of DTAB in aqueous solution. These parameters have been interpreted in terms of solute-solute and solute-solvent interactions and micellar behavior of DTAB.

Gold seed particles stabilized by citric acid were prepared by the sonochemical reduction of Au(iii) ions in aqueous solutions. These seed particles were grown by the reduction of adsorbed Au(iii) ions by ascorbic acid in aqueous solutions containing cationic surfactants, dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (C12TAB), hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (C16TAB) and didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDDAB). The rate of reduction of Au(iii) ions during the seed-growth process was found to be strongly dependent upon the type and concentration of the cationic surfactants. The presence of Ag(i) in the growth solution containing DDDAB affected the size distribution of the gold particles.

Density, viscosity and surface tension of Kolliphor® ELP, the nonionic surfactant aqueous solutions were measured at temperature T = 293–318 K and at 5K interval. Steady-state fluorescence measurements have been also made using pyrene as a probe. On the basis of the obtained results, a number of thermodynamic, thermo-acoustic and anharmonic parameters of the studied surfactant have been evaluated and interpreted in terms of structural effects and solute–solvent interactions. The results suggest that the molecules of studied surfactant at concentrations higher than the critical micelle concentration act as structure makers of the water structure.

The highly packed cetyltrimethylammonium bromide bilayer on the surface of gold nanorods synthesized by the seed-mediated procedure hampers the complete ligand exchange under experimental conditions that preserves the stability of the dispersions.
