This paper reports the synthesis of novel monodisperse Al2O3-coated molybdenum disulfide nanospheres (i.e., core-shell structures) using a one-step facile hydrothermal method. XPS analysis confirmed the purity and stable structure of the Al2O3-coated MoS2nanospheres. A possible growth mechanism of the core-shell structure is also reported, along with their influence on the photodegradation process of rhodamine B (RhB). The Al2O3-coated MoS2nanospheres demonstrate good photocatalytic activity and chemical stability compared to MoS2spheres. TG-DTA analysis provided insight into the decomposition process of the precursor solution and the stability of the nanoparticles. The enhanced photocatalytic activity makes the Al2O3-coated MoS2nanospheres a promising candidate as a photocatalyst that could be used in place of traditional Al2O3/MoS2photocatalyst for the removal of pollutants from waste water.

AbstractIn this paper, we report on the fabrication and characterization of pure and Al doped Ta2O5 thin films fabricated by metalorganic solution deposition (MOSD) technique. The pure and Aldoped Ta2O5 thin films were fabricated by spin-coating technique using room temperature processed carboxylate-alkoxide precursor solution. The structure of the films was analyzed by xray diffraction (XRD). The surface and cross-sectional morphology of the films were examined by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The electrical measurements were conducted on films in MIM configuration using Pt as the top and bottom electrode. The effects of Al concentration and the post-deposition annealing temperature on the structural, dielectric, and insulating properties were analyzed. The effects of the applied bias and the measurement temperature on the dielectric and insulating properties were also analyzed to establish the stability and reliability of Al doped Ta2O5 thin films.

Core-shell montmorillonite-TiO2 colloids were prepared in a hydrothermal process and characterized with transmission electron microscope, powder X-ray diffraction analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis and UV-vis spectra. Afterwards, their photocatalytic activity was investigated under UV irradiation using methyl orange as a model contaminant. In addition, the stability of the core-shell montmorillonite-TiO2 colloids was investigated by repeatedly performing methyl orange photocatalytic degradation experiments. The results indicate the as-prepared core-shell montmorillonite-TiO2 colloids are a highly efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of organic dyes in water. And this photocatalytic activity remains almost unchanged after eight successive cycles.

Monoclinic scheelite BiVO4 was synthesized from a mixture of aqueous Bi(NO3)3 and NH4VO3 solutions by hydrothermal method. Then using successive coating of BiVO4 with a carbon layer and a ZrO2 layer followed by heat treatment to remove the carbon layer prepared a core-shell(ZrO2@void@BiVO4) nanoparticles with a void layer between the BiVO4 core and the ZrO2 shell. TG-DTA and IR suggest that BiVO4 was coated with ZrO2. TEM shows that there was a void space between the BiVO4 core and the ZrO2 shell. The samples were characterized by XRD and the peaks of ZrO2@void@BiVO4 suits well with the pure phase monoclinic scheelite BiVO4. And its visble-light photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the photodegradation of methylene blue(MB). The results indicated that the photocatalytic activity of ZrO2@void@BiVO4 is similar to that of pure phase BiVO4, which makes it can be used for preparing liquid-gas phase boundary visble-light photocatalyst.
