Sleep activity is one of crucial factors for determining the quality of human life. However, a traditional sleep monitoring system onerously requires many devices to be attached to human body for achieving sleep related information. In this paper, we proposed and implemented the sleep monitoring system which can detect the sleep movement and posture during sleep using a Microsoft Kinect v2 sensor without any body attached devices. The proposed sleep monitoring system can readily gather the sleep related information that can reveal the sleep patterns of individuals. We expect that the analyzed sleep related data can significantly improve the sleep quality.

Sleep is an important factor in human life cycle. Many of the people are struggling from sleep disorders that may range from sleep deprivation to insomnia. Other major factor with respect to sleep is quality of sleep. It tends to happen with many of the people now a days that they get sleep for 6 to 8 hours but still they feel fatigue or sleepy throughout the day or even they are not satisfied with their sleep. Many people move towards the clinical/medical way to get good deep sleep like sleeping pills or tablets having alprazolam [1]. This may have seductive side effects throughout the day. Here in this paper we focus to improve sleep quality by maintain efficient hormonal profile of tryptophan i.e. melatonin through food based therapy to improve quality of sleep [2-4].

The sleep is a very important period of everyone’s life cycle. It has importance in the regeneration and preparation for the next day’s activity. Therefore, the quality of the sleep is important the effectiveness of the next day or long-term ineffective sleep will degrade the concentration of the person which can be serious problem in certain professions like bus drivers, pilots. The objective measurement, monitoring and evaluation of the sleep quality is important either in the sleep laboratory or even in the patient home. There are several type of sleep sensors, based on different working principle, contact, contactless and indirect. They provide important information about the human condition while asleep. However, it turned out the environment monitoring also provides valuable information about the sleep quality. Especially in the case of home sleep monitoring the environment monitoring is essential. This article explains the home sleep monitoring and introduces an environment monitoring device developed for home sleep monitoring.

Abstract This paper proposes a low cost IoT solution to detect head movements and positions of a patient by means of Force Sensing Resistors positioned on a pillow and connected to a micro-controller collecting patient data anytime, when sleeping, sending it to the cloud and making it available to healthcare professionals. The impact of this work is focused on monitoring sleep quality, using low-cost and easy to use pillows in an ambulatory scenario, without the need of expensive and dedicated sleeping rooms for sleep monitoring, which most of the times affect patient sleep and degrades the quality of the measurement. In this case it is possible to monitor the patient’s behavior throughout the entire sleep, important for detecting factors causing minor head and neck injuries and even checking for events of long pauses in respiratory rate.

Abstract Purpose This study aims to explore the characteristics and related factors of insomnia of patients after operation for gastric cancer. Methods A cross-sectional survey was carried out and finally 115 patients with insomnia after operation for gastric cancer were included. The general information, gastric cancer-related information, sleep quality, and other symptoms were investigated. Results ① The Pittsburgh sleep quality index score of most insomnia patients after gastric cancer surgery was 11-15 points, and the sleep quality rating was “poor”. ② The sleep quality of patients with insomnia after surgery for gastric cancer is related to the number of chemotherapy cycles, fatigue, and depression. ③ The probability of reduced sleep quality with the number of chemotherapy cycles >6 is 3.640 times that of ≤6. The probability of reduced sleep quality during moderate to severe fatigue was 4.390 times that of patients with no or mild fatigue. Conclusion Attention to related factors may be associated with improvement of sleep quality in patients with gastric cancer after surgery.

Water have been important needs for human life in many sectors such as in industry, agriculture, and household that its quality must be conserved so is in Surabaya city. The quality of water could influence the quality of human life directly, thus it is important to have an integrated water quality monitoring system. Information regarding water quality monitoring such as pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and conductivity were collected to produce a periodic decision for controlling, analyzing, and fixing the condition of the water. This paper proposed a design configuration of water quality monitoring system for tap water in Surabaya. First, a comparison study of water quality monitoring technology in terms of area, parameter, and methodology from the previous researchers is presented. From the study, the design configuration of water quality monitoring system to be implemented in Surabaya is concluded. The data collection method is better to be done by using Internet of Things (IoT) technology where it is possible to do multiple data type and multiple point real-time data collection throughout the water distribution network remotely.
