An experiment system has been established to study the dry friction damping dynamic characteristics of the steam turbine blade material 1Cr13. The friction dynamic characteristics of the specimens with nonconforming contact surfaces are measured under different parameters. The experiment results are compared with that of the macroslip hysteresis model and the Mindlin microslip friction model in detail. The results show that the experimental result of the tangential contact stiffness is in good agreement with that of the theory result based on the fractal theory and the Hertz contact theory by Jiang et al., 2009. The dimensionless equivalent stiffness and equivalent damping obtained by the macroslip hysteresis model agree well with the experimental results when relative motion is relatively large. However, the results of the macroslip hysteresis model differ a lot from the experimental results when relative motion is relatively small. Compared with the macroslip hysteresis model, the Mindlin microslip friction model can predict the dimensionless equivalent stiffness and equivalent damping accurately during the whole measurement range. The linear regularities of dimensionless equivalent stiffness and equivalent damping are obtained, which decrease the difficulty of building the vibration analysis model of the blade with sufficient accuracy.

To understand the mechanism of interfacial damping of axial loosely assembled dovetail to suppress blade vibration, a dry friction force model is presented by the Coulomb friction law and the macroslip model, and the mathematical expression of the friction force is derived. The nonlinear friction force is linearized as an equivalent stiffness and an equivalent damping through the one-term harmonic balance method. The effect of centrifugal force on the equivalent stiffness and the equivalent damping is studied. The forced response of one simplified blade with loosely assembled dovetail attachment is predicted by the harmonic balance method, in which the blade is described by the lumped mass and spring model, and the friction contact joints is simplified as a ideal friction damper. The results show that the equivalent stiffness of loosely assembled dovetail attachment increases with blade centrifugal force, gradually reaches a certain value, and there exists the maximum value for the equivalent stiffness. The equivalent damping increases at the beginning and then decreases with blade centrifugal force increasing, there exists a maximum too. The resonant frequency of blade rises with blade centrifugal force, but it no longer increases when the centrifugal force exceed a certain value. There exists a special centrifugal force on which the effect of dry friction damping is the best.

Background: Rolling mill vibration mechanism is very complex, and people haven't found a satisfactory vibration control method. Rolling interface is one of the vibration sources of the rolling mill system, and its friction and lubrication state has a great impact on the vibration of the rolling mill system. It is necessary to establish an accurate friction model for unsteady lubrication process of roll gap and a nonlinear vibration dynamic model for rolling process. In addition, it is necessary to obtain more direct and real rolling mill vibration characteristics from the measured vibration signals, and then study the vibration suppression method and design the vibration suppression device. Methods: This paper summarizes the friction lubrication characteristics of rolling interface and its influence on rolling mill vibration, as well as the dynamic friction model of rolling interface, the tribological model of unsteady lubrication process of roll gap, the non-linear vibration dynamic model of rolling process, the random and non-stationary dynamic behavior of rolling mill vibration, etc. At the same time, the research status of rolling mill vibration testing technology and vibration suppression methods were summarized. Time-frequency analysis of non-stationary vibration signals was reviewed, such as wavelet transform, Wigner-Ville distribution, empirical mode decomposition, blind source signal extraction, rolling vibration suppression equipment development. Results: The lubrication interface of the roller gap under vibration state presents unsteady dynamic characteristics. The signals generated by the vibration must be analyzed in time and frequency simultaneously. In the aspect of vibration suppression of rolling mill, the calculation of inherent characteristics should be carried out in the design of rolling mill to avoid dynamic defects such as resonance. When designing or upgrading the mill structure, it is necessary to optimize the structure of the work roll bending and roll shifting system, such as designing and developing the automatic adjustment mechanism of the gap between the roller bearing seat and the mill stand, adding floating support device to the drum shaped toothed joint shaft, etc. In terms of rolling technology, rolling vibration can be restrained by improving roll lubrication, reasonably distributing rolling force of each rolling mill, reducing rolling force of vibration prone rolling mill, increasing entrance temperature, reducing rolling inlet tension, reducing strip outlet temperature and reasonably arranging roll diameter. The coupling vibration can also be suppressed by optimizing the hydraulic servo system and the frequency conversion control of the motor. Conclusion: Under the vibration state, the lubrication interface of roll gap presents unsteady dynamic characteristics. The signal generated by vibration must be analyzed by time-frequency distribution. In the aspect of vibration suppression of rolling mill, the calculation of inherent characteristics should be carried out in the design of rolling mill to avoid dynamic defects such as resonance. The paper has important reference significance for vibration suppression of continuous rolling mill and efficient production of high quality strip products.

The vibration dissipation mechanism of the rotating blade with a dovetail joint is studied in this paper. Dry friction damping plays an indispensable role in the direction of vibration reduction. The vibration level is reduced by consuming the total energy of the turbine blade with the dry friction device on the blade-root in the paper. The mechanism of the vibration reduction is revealed by the variation of the friction force and the energy dissipation ratio of dry friction. In this paper, the flexible blade with a dovetail interface feature is discretized by using the spatial beam element based on the finite element theory. Then the classical Coulomb-spring friction model is introduced to obtain the dry friction model on the contact interfaces of the tenon-mortise structure. What is more, the effects of the system parameters (such as the rotating speed, the friction coefficient, the installation angle of the tenon) and the excitation level on blade damping characteristics are discussed, respectively. The results show that the variation of the system parameters leads to a significant change of damping characteristics of the blade. The variation of the tangential stiffness and the position of the external excitation will affect the nonlinear characteristics and vibration damping characteristics.

AbstractThe responses of a simple harmonically excited dry friction oscillator are analysed in the case when the coefficients of static and kinetic coefficients of friction are different. One- and two-parameter bifurcation curves are determined at suitable parameters by continuation method and the largest Lyapunov exponents of the obtained solutions are estimated. It is shown that chaotic solutions can occur in broad parameter domains—even at realistic friction parameters—that are tightly enclosed by well-defined two-parameter bifurcation curves. The performed analysis also reveals that chaotic trajectories are bifurcating from special asymmetric solutions. To check the robustness of the qualitative results, characteristic bifurcation branches of two slightly modified oscillators are also determined: one with a higher harmonic in the excitation, and another one where Coulomb friction is exchanged by a corresponding LuGre friction model. The qualitative agreement of the diagrams supports the validity of the results.

Abstract The dynamic behavior of a beam-like structure undergoing transverse vibration and subjected to a displacement-dependent dry friction force is examined. In Part I, the beam is modeled by a single mode while Part II considers multi-mode representations. The displacement dependence in each case is caused by a ramp configuration that allows the normal force across the sliding interface to increase linearly with slip displacement. The system is studied first by using first-order harmonic balance and then by using a time integration method. The stick-slip behavior of the system is also studied. Even though the only source of damping is dry friction, the system is seen to exhibit “viscous-like” damping characteristics. A strong dependence of the equivalent natural frequency and damping ratio on the displacement amplitude is an interesting result. It is shown that for a given set of parameter values, an optimal ramp angle exists that maximizes the equivalent damping ratio. The appearance of two dynamic response solutions at certain system and forcing parameter values is also seen. Results suggest that the overall characteristics of mechanical systems may be improved by properly configuring frictional interfaces to allow normal forces to vary with displacement.

Dry-friction whip and whirl occurs when a rotor contacts a stator across a clearance annulus. In a general sense, the relative motion between the two bodies is described by a circular precessing motion. While this problem is generally well understood, the author is unaware of any papers that discuss the problem for systems having asymmetric rotor or stator supports. The current work will investigate a general model to describe dry-friction whip and whirl for the case of continuous contact between a rotor and stator in the presence of asymmetry. This paper will show that for light asymmetry, the rotor and stator motions are elliptical; however, the relative motion between the two bodies remains circular.

It is of great significance to study the dynamic characteristics of twin ball screw (TBS) feed system to improve the precision of gantry-type dual-driven computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. In this paper, an equivalent dynamic model of the TBS feed system is established utilizing lumped mass method considering the stiffness of joints. Equivalent axial stiffness of screw-nut joints and bearing joints are both calculated by Hertz contact theory. Furthermore, a friction model is proposed because the friction force of the screw nut affects the stiffness of the joints. Then, the friction parameters are obtained by using the nonlinear system identification method. Meanwhile, a finite element model (FEM) is developed to assess the dynamic characteristics of TBS feed system under the stiffness of joints. Finally, validation experiments are conducted, and the results show that the positions of the nut and the velocities of worktable greatly affect the dynamic characteristics of the TBS feed system. Compared with the theoretical calculation, FEM and experiments indicate that the dynamic modeling proposed in this article can reach a higher accuracy.
